Kingdom Come
Hadrian Veska Aug 2017
The world is at peace
United as one kingdom
Under the ruler
Of the kindgom of the air

Under him

Science has fallen
Hailed as progress
Dragging us back into the mud
Of disease and blind adherence

The family is broken
Torn from the seams
No father home left to teach
No mother home left to nurture

God is dead
Removed from the world
The work of his own hands
Deny his very existence

We are all lost
Searching for meaning
A meaning we cannot find
Because we've already rejected it

The kingdom long promised has come
Bringing peace to the earth
The kingdom has come
Though, not the one we expected

Ideal Enemy
Hadrian Veska Aug 2017
I had betrayed them all and joined her.
Ensnared by her spell, I fell to darkness.
Though, the spell was not wholly potent.
In fact, it has no effect on me at all.

But I pretended as though it did.
The truth is I was tired,
Tired of being the thankless hero.
Ready to become my ideal's enemy;

If only for a moment's peace.

Pulse
Hadrian Veska Dec 2017
The machine calls out
From the depths of that valley
Long ago a smoldering crater
Now a thick selcouth jungle
Untouched by the hands of men

There are some who can hear it
A faint yet constant murmur
Something wholly foreign
Beckoning them further
Into that primordial place

The whispers of a resurgent god

The Long Dark
Hadrian Veska May 2017
We've been trapped in here
Our own little universe
Stuck in an endless pattern
Of becoming our own gods

We build and create
In our own likeness
Ever passing to myth
Losing what we once knew

Those outside wish this to be
For they were the ones
Who enclosed us here
Fearing their own creations

One day in the long past future
We will break free from the cycle
Of creation and destruction
And pass through the Gates of Night

To finally return to our home
That calls out to us
From beyond the long dark

The Slumbering Earth
Hadrian Veska Aug 2019
The warm orange glow of sunlight
Recedes on ivied stone
Giving way to dull shadows
Waiting to be freed

The day is over
Evening blankets the sky
In red and purple hues
Heralding the coming night

In the moment between
Where sun and moon meet
Betwixt the light and dark
Can a brief glimpse be seen

Of something quite familiar
At the height of creation
Where the vast heavens
Meet the slumbering earth

There does it sit
In paradise enshrined
Peering down below
Waiting ever so patiently

To carry on from where it left
So many ages ago

Let the waters flow
Rolling downward
To where they go

Let the sunshine glow
To gild the Meadows

And let my soul rest
For in all I know
I know I'm blessed

The Promise
Hadrian Veska Aug 2017
He said he would come back
But they don't believe him
It's been years since he left
Somewhere I couldn't follow

They call me a fool
Everyday for still believing
That he will come back
And things will be made right

And perhaps they are right
He has been gone years
Indeed long millennia
But I know he'll return

He's not known to break promises

The Long Dark
Hadrian Veska Aug 2017
The world has become strange
A figment of unknown imagination
Spirits wander the earth in droves
As if the gates of heaven itself were shut

Time and memory bleed and run
Consciousness flows uncontrollably
The fabric of creation has come undone
And with it so too have our minds

Releasing things far stranger than death
And infinitely more terrifying
The long dark has come
The world we knew swept away

Into the cold embrace
Of a sterile night

Bellcasts and balustrades
Impossibly complicated
Columns and arcades
Incredibly crafted
Stained glass and arches
Ornately constructed
An insurmountable feat
Of engineering and skill
A wonder of the world
While the world laid still
A monument magnificent
To the empires of old
A triumphant memorial
Encased in granite and gold
That time though now long passed
As worn rock and stone do tell
Yet still rings the somber strain
Of its ancient weathered bell
When it calls do all look up
And for a moment stop; wonder
The way the world was
Before is tore asunder

The Pool
Hadrian Veska May 2018
I can hear a steady drip
Stalactites growing at lethargic rates
A dark pool providing moisture
To the nearby luminescent fungi

I am lost

Perhaps I always have been
I can no longer remember
From where I came
Or to where I was going

I merely walk back and forth
Among the tunnels ad caverns
Hoping to stumble on a path
I have not yet traveled

But always I return
To this strange pool
Of murky black water
Surrounded by dim calming lights

Pasts Left Forgotten
Hadrian Veska Dec 2017
This place had met annihilation
How long ago none could say
But it's ruins yet stood
Among the hills and forest valleys

I walked among such ruins
Since I was young
Yearning for the sights and sounds
This walls held in their prime

The craftmanship was unparalleled
Gorgeous even in destruction
The inscriptions on pillars
Beckoned me as if alive

I could never read them
For I knew not that old language
The language of a lost empire
That rose in distant ages

In my latter years I now shudder
Having studied that ancient tongue
And recalling the passages
Engraved upon those marbled archways

They spoke not of great conquests
Or kings and heroes of old
No they served only as warnings
For the generations to come

The penultimate inscription
That lay upon the palace walls
So important it was inlayed
With obsidian and gold, read thusly;

"No Utopia may exist upon this Earth.
The perfection of man is a troubled one,
Doomed from its inception.
Man seeks to put forth into the world
What does not reside within him,
And so he corrupts the world
And himself in the process.

Oh how little you know,
Son of the Second Moon.
When..."

Beneath the etchings I remember
The bones of four men
About them lay rusted chisels
And other carving tools

I noticed as well, that the inscription
Appeared unfinished
As if the engraver was stopped
Forcibly before his work was done

I reached out to touch the groove
The final character never filled
With the obsidian and gold inlay
It was colder than stone should be

But that is all I remember
As I appeared to have passed out
And woken up with the gentle sun
The following morning

Hadrian Veska Nov 2017
It haunts those streets
In the hidden hours
When neither sun nor moon
Grace the stillborn sky

That city lost long ago
To the steady march of the waves
In the ages since though
Have the great waters receeded

Leaving but strange memoires
Of coral and salt
Sitting upon the shores
Of a dried up sea

There, among thirsting relics
Of a bygone seabed
Does a creature lurk
In exalted solitude

Neither spirit nor man
But somewhere inbetween
shrouded in tattered cloth
And adorned by grievous horns

In and out through the ruins
Of that once alluring locus
Where in long ages past
The spirits and sprites yet lingered

But no longer
Now only the solitary Wydyatt
Haunts those ancient roads
Beneath the twilight skies

I've wanted to hide there
And walk those cobbled streets
Deep down there below
Only now though
Have I realized the desire
Is that of a coward
Someone who wishes
To veil themselves
In faint darkness
Just enough so they can see
But not themselves be seen
There is a simple difference
Between someone who is outside
And someone who wants to hide
Remaining themselves unseen

Beyond the heavens
Past the stars

I crossed leagues of darkness

Great oceans of stillness
Undisturbed since creation

For eons I traveled
Until I came to a wall
Signaling the very edge
Of all known existence

Having come so far
I was not eager to return
So I considered the thought
That all walls have doors

And that what lies beyond
Those fabled gates of night
Will be far greater

Sterile
Hadrian Veska Aug 2019
I’ve crossed the sea on a wooden boat
sleepless and wake-less I've traveled
The waves do not carry me fast enough
The wind is absent from my sail
I must escape, but the shore beckons me
Pulls me back ever so slowly
I have tried many and myriad times
But I have yet to escape its grasp
If only I could sail beyond the horizon
I would be safe from the maw of this curse
The dream goes on endlessly
Yet I am still too sane to accept it
How long though I can remain like this
I will not dare to say
For I have seen many like me
Fall to the guile of the curse
To the sweet sounds and speechless words
Of a sentient oblivion
In time I will fall to it as well
That is why I must cross the sea
Inky black and sterile
And sail beyond the horizon
That I might escape this dreadful curse

A tragic birth
Prophesied to die
On the hill of bones
Where vultures fly

It comforts me strangely
In these colder days
When grey clouds cover
The sun's distant rays

That one so distant
Was born to save
All those rejected
To the depths of the grave

Born to die
A death alone
But first to rise
Above the stones

The hidden weapon
A double- edged sword
To break the curse
And lead us all toward

Our final redemption
The broken made whole
To peace at last
His Father's goal

So I'll sing and delight
As the angels on high
Rejoicing in death
That none more may die

From my perch beyond the glass
I watch your unconscious actions
A steady wading into still waters
Until the sea sits above your eyes

A silent bell tolls

Ushering in change unperceived
You walk backwards to shore
The slate grey sands
Shaped by your feet

You are not the same

You are changed
And though your head
Was not engulfed by the waters
It is only a matter of time

Before your mind is submerged as well

Beneath the ink black waves

They appear to be mirrors
But aren't quite so simple.
They are made of some material
That reflects light to create energy.

I won't pretend I understand it;
As I look from reflection to reflection
In each of the angled mirrors
Set in a circle about me

The images echo on endlessly,
Curving off into space.
The only permutation
Being the door I entered from.

I looked for a long while
Trying to locate the point
Where all reflections converged.
Alas, I could not find it.

As I continued looking
I caught something
Out of the corner of my eye,
It was the door opening.

I went to look at the door
Being led on by its reflections,
Until I came to the point
Where I knew I had come in.

But the door was gone
As I realized this,
A blur reverberated throughout
All of the endless reflections

And in an instant the light was no more
