Moonlight folded,
a mouth purses shut.
    Ears rise,
                corn listens.
The scarecrow whispers—
dreams scatter like chaff.
I've got to keep an eye out
One must be careful to not let time slip by
Or to spend too much of it inside

Just before
the sunlight was orange from the forest fire air
A few leaves crunching
brown and brittle under feet
with dust kicked up and floating
in the warmth
the remains of summer's final sigh

Just now
A cool blue chill through the window
A shower of golden leaves come with a strong breeze

Another day, a slightly different shade
I want to be there to see every one
my mind is a floundering locomotive
i've been spinning my wheels
addressing things that don't matter
tap tap tap at the phone
as if I need to care about parenting tips right now,
I ain't got any kids
I think the first stages of burnout are more my speed
i fear my body is tired
because of the running my mind did.

. . .

There's something about early mornings
That make you think.
The neighborhood is quiet, voices yet unawakened
So only the wind speaks
It whispers through the open window
The sun is slowly rising, a docile flame
And we have yet to hear its fire roaring overhead

. . .

I'm sitting and trying to keep my attention
Where it should be
Because everything is trying to compete
attention economy, internet, dopamine, etc.
I want to use it the right way
I want to keep it from spinning out of my hands
Leaving is inevitable
But I'd like to think that I can control where it goes when it does
which planet to land.
Time to board the rocket for another
I wrote this poem about a year ago today. Finally decided to post it!
than the autumn leaves
flying off the maple trees
in late September. I
remember when she

was smooth as the
bud on the maple and
round as the kitchen
table. She’s falling faster

than the pouring rain
on my windowpane in
drops of Jupiter. I remember
her juicy and green like a

cucumber.  She's falling faster
than a roller-coaster, with her hands
high up in the air. She once was
a seat, like my chair.
They Excluded You,
no invitation was sent,
no offer, of wanting to go,
towards you was meant,

they left you all alone,
they left you behind,
they forgot all about you, and
that wasn't so kind,

You are feeling sad and blue,
not knowing what to do,
You feel you have no friends, and
In your mind, this is true,

They are out having fun,
Under the Hot, Blazing Sun,
are you feeling left out,
You are not the only one,

I know how you feel,
the betrayal is real,
these fake *** old friends
Could ****** hit the hills

Sometimes it's not fair,
They treated you so wrong,
They really do not care, and
I been done moved on,

They Excluded You, but
It's all good and well,
I will find better friends,
While ya'll go swim in hell

We cursed the dark
but woke the cold plague wind,
cracked summer's 'crypted spell,
talked the pretty into hell.
And so the show begins.

Black cat's-paw on bleeding-stone;
two speakers in a field of bone
bite down a forgotten kiss.
Whispers from the too-full skull
laugh in the pumpkin's cut-out hull,

but never the voice I miss.

~October 2017
October is the month of All Hallows. Today it begins.
It's only real when you lose

It's unreal when you win

When I was young I had growing pains

Someone said I was just growing up too fast

When she says ,"can we be friends"

What she means can we forget the past

And I've found that where it breaks

Is where everything begins to bend

So if you dig me up from under the better part of me

Remember we once dug each other
