I’d like your taste to linger
A little longer on my lips—
Citrusy-bright,  caramel-rich acacia honey;
You fizz, umami.
A hint of cashews— yes, I’m nuts for your being!
So sweet, sugary, cavity-worthy—Guilt-free.
A flavour I should let just fade out..
For the inevitable,
minty and cold reality
scheduled to rinse it
Everything delicious is temporary.

As I stood there,
cleaning my closet,
In the middle of a bunch of lovely trinkets—
I realised, I had baggage.
A lot of it. It wasn’t just stuff.

It wasn’t just an old sweater,
—It was the smell of him.
And perhaps the lovely necklace
that reminded me of school—
Or the cutest folded letter I forgot
Someone gave me, years ago..

How could I let go?

But it was moving day.

Boxes weren’t that large to fit everything.

I had to choose.

Which ones would stay..

               And which….

                              I had to let go.

And I’m going to make you
so much of a memory,
That you’ll be more of a myth.
Linked somehow,
to the subtle pain
woven in
some parts of my voice.
Barely noticeable,
yet still lingering there.
Legend has it,
every now and then,
just between the happiest
and saddest
words I say,
If you listen carefully,
I’m just
Whispering your name.
A folk tale in my lore

I saw you on a picture.
—And for a split moment,
I didn’t recognise my brain.
I programmed it differently.
For that specific task,
it’s usually set
to unpair itself
from my higher conscious self.

My standard policy is:
No empathy your way.

But today…
I could tell.
You seemed unwell.

Despite the damages done,
under your affection dictatorship
I didn’t rejoice.
I actually cared.

No trace of a mean smirk.
really wished you the best.

Hope it reaches you,
written all over your face,
Next time I catch a glimpse
In some picture of a friend.

Sometimes I suddenly wake
Scared, anxious, nervous
Flooded with memories
Of a familiar stranger
And the scariest part
is this image, of myself,
so vulnerable, so happy

next to him.

I can hear your thoughts,
they dont let me sleep.

Maybe I'll be an eternal nomad,
Since my only home is in your arms.

A lo mejor sere una eterna nómada,
porque mi único hogar esta en tus brazos.
Originally wrote this in Spanish, my mother tongue; a little cheesy, I know

This numbness of the heart
Has been here for a long time
Couldn’t realise that ignoring it
would contribute to made it last.
Dianali Apr 17
I thought you seem familiar—

I don’t know if remember you,

From another lifetime,

Where you also let me down—

                                        Just  gentler.

It’s the same floor
It’s the same bed
It’s the same line of the song I forget
Each year it’s the usual process
Remembering stuff that used to bother
All the lessons, unlearned
Regret flowing as tears down my face

It was real, at least a while
I wish it was a dream,
But past shouldn’t last all night.

You don't have to search anymore
It’s okay, I’ll be your company
As we’ll be dreaming under different skies
Cloud nine resting , still, we can settle,
My embrace will be your home,
Your eyes will ground me
This feeling, our only battle
Dianali Mar 30
I hovered above us
Trying to capture the whole scene
Legs trying not to shiver
While you’re planting kisses,
exploring soft, uncharted skin.
Out-of-body experience,
Floating right there,
I envied myself for a second,
But your anchor-like hands
Managed to drag me down there
Eyes meet again
Making me face them
My nonsensical thoughts—
My fear, my desire to stay—
The closeness of my thighs
To your lips.

Why should I know

Why the sky is blue ?

Why can’t I just enjoy the sunny day?

I strip myself.

Bones, soul and flesh.

I got on the scale. Check.

I’m way past my ideal weight— again.

I guess no amount of exercise

Or calorie-deficit diet would do

Because I didn’t account for

how many calories memories use.

Well, since I’m in no heart-diet,

I can afford to have a few—

So go on,

Add some extra kilograms to the soul.

I’m trying so hard to keep it inside
It’s in the surface of my heart
I can’t scratch it
It’s spreading
And then it overflows
It’s overwhelming
It slides down my face
Salty watery trace
I’ll be okay
Just not today

Micro universes:
You, there
Me, here
Worlds, we’ll never get to see.
Words, we’ll never get to hear.
Dianali Mar 2021
Sometimes I eat alone
seated across my thoughts
and I wish
you were here
to hear them
Set for two

I shifted into another universe
without you in it,
and it felt strange,
for a while.

I know my parents’ reason of concern.
What could they have done?
What could they have said?
It’s no one fault,
There’s no one to blame.
Nostalgia was just
their daughter’s best friend.

I heard an expert say
missing someone
is simply an act of love—
So often woven
into unhealed pain
and heart-sores.

I thought of the night
I vowed to engrave
your laughter in my soul.
Kept safe as a personal vinyl,
sometimes replayed—
because I kept my word.

April.. you were a sweet reminder
of the joyous oath of spring—
Slowly but surely,
coaxed the cold to give in..
I have this theory:
Yours are the days
love nests to begin.
Call it cliché, that’s the way it must be
Scented your days are with blossom;
Roses and hope in bloom and in glee!

My, my, May!
you were so good to me!
You may as well be
my favourite of the three!
Your daylight hugs feel so sincere;
Quick-witted, heart-warmth breeze;
Birdsongs are echoes of
Family laughs and cheers—
May, please— I’m on my knees!
Like a lover that’s bright,
And made just for me—
The rest of the year I’ll be craving your heat!

A little dramatic,
But June, don’t despair!
Handle your grace
and sun-varnished grass trace,
Don’t be shy—bring lilac skies;
Let’s walk in warm sand,
I’ve got you by the hand.
No doubt at all, but pure delight,
You are already opening
beautifully right !

I got the frames,
not the pictures.
Got a whole life, just waiting
For its beginning.
Dianali Jan 2021
You inspired me to arise,
to improve,
to survive.
I owe you nothing,
and
        everything
                           I have.

Just remember:
Wounds in the soul are deeper than they appear.

I took all the love I gave to you
And used it for myself

Such a selfish thought
Being attached to the past
when it is understood
moments are not meant to last.
Change is braided with time,
Are we supposed to ignore that?

Seduta su questa scala
Guardando il mare
Mi ricorda il momento
In cui ** trovato
il percorso corretto
Di andare
Mille notti di piacere
effimero
sono stati per te
il mio tempo prezioso
perso in te
Effimero
Come sei
e come per me
È adesso, gia
Il amore che avevo
tanti anni fa

Que inmensas son
aquellas melancolías
Llenas de quizás— reales, tal vez,
Solo en alguna otra realidad.

My mom is at the edge of tears
Every time the situation is mentioned
I have to be strong
Because she can’t crumble
I have to be strong
Because It’s my turn
I want to be strong
Because it’s my turn
I need to be strong
Because she’s everyone’s rock
I will be strong
Because I am her rock.
Dianali Nov 2021
I was so profoundly moved by the words
you managed to produce
In that beautifully-crafted mind of yours
They may as well been scripted
To just my personal delight

If I were to follow the plot line
Will the ending be happy ? Will it be sad?
The only thing I can predict by now:
My heart at your reach,
My soul in your hands
Dianali Dec 2024
Just glimpses of what it used to be
Second-hand memories,
faded reflections
of the golden years.
It’s a different tomorrow.
I feel scammed and hollow.
This is not what was promised.
I am a grownup now—
Translation of
     Years hoarding sorrow—
Dianali Jun 2021
It was chaotic, the beating of my heart
At the bare, minimum, touch of your hand
I was at ease, and under attack
Resting my thoughts on your lap

The wound is forming a scab.
New-knit memories are healing it back.
The wound will scar,
so it could be skin again.
To feel, to be caressed—
by the sun,
by your touch,
by the rain..

The wound will be skin again.
To be scratched and ripped away.
The wound will bleed—
but it will be skin again.
Healed by a newly-formed scab,
woven from fresh threads of recollections
and bedtime-story yarns.

Perhaps all your exes do better after you for a reason
Perhaps my words are aimed to hurt

                          You.

And now that I know they could,
I wouldn’t  mind if they do.
Cause perhaps I am still sour,
From the taste of your love
And its deep, light-consuming
hole in my soul.

Walking past a building
Being built,
As I type this.
I wonder—
Is some core memory
There,
Waiting for me?
Dianali Apr 2021
Oh you come to my mind
In waves
And I want to drown
But my instinct makes me swim
Makes me survive
And when I reach the shore
I am safe
And grateful.

The room is quiet,
No one is near,
Your sneaky hand
Makes its way to me;
my flesh, my soul
Shivering
To the expert dance
of your  fingertips

Maybe no one would get my essence
Like I do. Even after many tries.
Is that pretentiously narcissistic?
or just deep self-awareness?

I write, I think, I write,
I agonise with the idea of my thoughts being heard,
I write again,
I let go.

All that love flowing through my veins
got me sick to my stomach
I’m disgusted by how much
I loved you.

Mid-youth crisis,
   Lovely pictures of your exes

.. getting married.

You are wrecked,
Aren’t you?

25’s birthday eve
I thought back then
You’d be here

Yes, a really good one,
But still, a draft.
What can I say?
I want the real thing,
I wasn’t settling for that.

Against myself
It’s about time I meet
A worthy rival
