I fell into the pit
Of sadness and doubt
All because of this thing
Called society

I tore out myself
And shredded the things
That used to define me
All because they told me I can't
Be who I wanted to be

But society doesn't change
They judge you for who you are
And who you aren't
It's a prison
And we cannot escape it

I hope it leaves,
Well used.

If I threw you a line,
Would you catch it
So I could reel you back to safety
From the mucky waters
In which you are currently drowning

The salt in the water
Has chafed your once flawless skin,
Which is now
Red, peeling, sore.
Let me tend it for you,
So when I cradle you in my open arms
You won't hurt.

I know it's colder outside the lagoon,
I know it's hard to leave,
But if I lit a fire, we could
Sit around it together,
Singing sweet lullabies,
A blanket draped over your shoulders
As I rock you to sleep.

We don't have to speak,
I just need to know you're safe.
cliched metaphor, i know!

Breaking the chains

Of society's madness

We attempt to live
If one advances confidently in the direction of his dreams, and endeavors to live the life which he has imagined, he will meet with a success unexpected in common hours.

I met a scarecrow today.
He made me look him in the eyes
And tell him 'things will get better.'
My first reaction was to lie,

So I told him what he wanted to hear.
I've never met a scarecrow born with fear.

He didn't look very satisfied
With what I had to tell.
He said that he couldn't believe me
If I didn't believe myself

And with that he sent me on my way.
I've never met the scarecrow since that day.
