I Saw Perfect

Today I looked in
And I saw a perfect face
A smile that lit up the room
When others looked your way

There was this calm about you
As you looked around the room
Knowing just what you want
And who is right for you

You looked my way and smiled
And I wondered who you saw
Not realizing it was me
That you searched for all along

I felt this calming peace within
As your eyes peirced my soul
I saw the inner beauty
That I knew was there to hold

That perfect person in the room
Was there for all to see
For that perfect face that I saw
Was in a mirror in front of me

This poem is about finding yourself first. Seeing yourself differently and knowing that the way you see yourself, so will others. Believe that what you have to offer is what others want and others will want what you have to offer. (Wait I see a future poem in those last few words...lol)

The Power Of A Whisper

A whisper makes you listen
It can stop you in your tracks
Can gives words different meaning
Create memories that will last

Whispers cause new feelings
They can change a point of view
Will help to stop the anger
When someone's mad at you

A whisper gives true comfort
Allows a calming peace within
If you listen very closely
You'll hear a whisper in the wind

A whisper sometimes can be heard
From way across a room
To feel the power of a whisper
Just whisper I Love You

Whisper

I read the book of Samuel
I read the story of the Israelites
Of how they rejected God
“We want a king!” they demanded
“We want to be like other nations”
Rejecting God’s kingship.

The same God who brought them up
Out of the ******* of Pharaoh
Out of slavery in Egypt
The same God who gave them victories
Over many nations and wars
The same God who had fed them
For forty years in the wilderness
Same God who had proved
Beyond reasonable doubt
That He is the King of kings
A Lord above all lords
They chose to downgrade!

I was swept away in a mind journey
As I thought of how it must have felt
To be rejected by your own children
Repudiated by your beloved
Disowned by the very people you love.

My heart bled!
The heartbreak was unimaginable
The pain was excruciating
As my mind pointed fingers of accusation
I couldn’t find befitting words
“Foolish Israelites!”
“Unrepentant idiots!”
“Stubborn generation!”

And as my mind went awry
Heaping insults on God’s people
Raining accusations on them
Judging an imperfect people as myself…

His still small voice whispered
“You are all the same”
“You have done worse”

Then it struck me
Like a lightening of a million volts
I am the Israelites
I am the very people of God
I am the same ones I condemn
I have betrayed God repeatedly
I have chosen sin above my maker
My iniquities know no bounds
I have trivialized His blood
I have made a mess of the cross.

I am the “foolish Israelites!”
I am the “unrepentant idiots!”
I am the “stubborn generation!”

My heart melted into tears
Shame covered me like a cloud
My head was bowed in ignominy.

Unable to speak or move
I lay there, weeping at my wickedness
No words were spoken
But I felt His arms embrace me
In acknowledgement of my repentance
I never deserved it
But He loved me nonetheless.
I pointed one finger at them
But three pointed back at me!

She walks with grace and Dignity
Because she knows her savior.
She knows that life's a gift, you see
It shows in her behavior.

She always has an ear to hear,
She thinks before she talks.
But every word she says is wise
I hope my stride will mimic her walk.

For freedom Christ did set us free
She lives this verse out infinitely
I look at her face and don't see her
But the God who conquered death and hurt

You see, her face is like a mirror,
It reflects what she's been staring at.
I look to her but see my savior,
His steadfast love she does not lack.

I say all this because she showed me
Something that can't be taught with words.
My mother's love is the closest thing
To Jesus on this earth.

She loved me when I was young,
and small enough to hold.
She loved me when I woke her up
and didn't do what I was told.

She loved me when I wasn't small
and WAY too big to hold.
She wrapped her arms around me,
And told me I was beautiful.

She loved me when the boys did not,
But told me that they did.
She loved me even when we fought
And my stubborn streak was worse than I thought.

She loved me when I was anxious
to leave the nest she made.
She understood that time would come,
And loved me anyways.

She loves me when my life is crazy,
and I don't get a chance too call.
She loves from across state lines,
In the Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall.

My Mother loves like Jesus does,
her love is unconditional.
I love My mom with all my heart,
and in the deepest depths of my soul.

The only reason I can love,
Is cause she taught me how.
She showed me Christ exemplified,
So I will love my little one like she loves me now.

Concealed Carry can sometimes cause
More problems then its worth
If every time that you need
You always use it first

You're not supposed to stop and think
Of the fear that you may have
The pain that's caused by others
Is simply not allowed to last

Concealed Carry is hard to hide
When it always stays with you
It becomes the thing that you use most
When you dont know what to do

Concealed Carry might just be
The worst thing you can use
You should always try to talk things out
And do whats best for you

When you Conceal Carry feelings
And do not set them free
They become the worst of weapons
And can drop you to your knees

Concealed Carry can sometimes cause
More problems then its worth
If every time that you need
You always use it first

Im a cop so no gun fanatics about our rights to carry. I carry and I believe you have the same right as long as we all abide by the same laws there should be no problem. Its the crazy ones who carry that worry me but i hope that I or a fellow conceal carry will be there if that were to happen. Ok, my rant is over and my poem was not about any of that I just didnt want to get the hate mail from the far right. Im right in the middle on most issues.

Don't Drink The Kool-Aid

Don't drink the Kool-Aid
That's a phrase you'll sometimes hear
It means don't believe every word
And don't live your life in fear

Don't walk around with blinders
Try to see the other side
You can listen to what others say
But make up your own mind

You do not have to follow
When someone makes a stand
There are many different points of view
Each side must get a chance

Your opinion may just matter
To no one else but you
The experience of a persons life
Creates their point of view

So don't drink the Kool-Aid
You can't believe all that you hear
Dont trust someone blindly
And don't live your life in fear

Don't drink the Kool-Aid

Carl Joseph Roberts
December 2013
For all the younger poets who may not know this. The phrase Don't drink the Kool-Aid was started because of the November 18, 1978 massacre when 918  people who were followers of preacher Jim Jones who while at a religious compound in Guyana drank Kool-Aid or a flovored drink laced with cyanide. It is believed that for many of these followers the drinking of this poison was voluntary.  Followers believed this one man so much that they were willing to give their own children poison. Since then this phrase has gained acceptance as meaning dont follow blindly.

Acting Out Of Habit

Acting out of habit
I go about my day
Pretending that the love I feel
Will somehow go away

There is a feeling in my heart
That I hide deep within
A secret love that I feel
Whenever they walk in

I tell myself they're taken
I can never be with them
Knowing that with just a chance
I would let a love begin

I cannot change who I am
Or the way I feel inside
Hopeing they will somehow see
And want me in their life

Acting out of habit
I go about my day
Pretending that the love I feel
Will somehow go away

Acting out of Habit

A part of life still untold

This life I have has gone by fast
I now reminisce as I look back
So many memories both good and bad
Yet I would not change this life I've had

In life I've seen a thing or two
I've had some laughs and cried some too
I have felt the love from my son
And had heartbreak from the one I loved

I've been rich and poor and in between
Owned houses, cars and many things
Learned lessons from the things I've done
And I've tried to do more right then wrong

My family, friends and God above
Have all shown me how to feel true love
I can choose which path to guide my way
And I decide to give more then I take

As  this life of mine starts calming down
There is an inner peace I've found
A different chapter now unfolds
My next part of life is still untold
We grow older and realize that there is more years behind us then in front of us. Still there is the calm of knowing that the life lived has been a good one and a peace of mind of knowing the rest of my life are to be my best years.

Love With All Your Heart

There are many different ways to love
That we can have within our hearts
A love that takes it's time to grow
Or one there from the start

Sometimes a love can fade away
A love never to return
While other love is meant to stay
Without worry or concern

It may take time to fall in love
Not all love starts out strong
We must open up our hearts to love
For thats where love belongs

There are times the love we feel inside
Stays hidden for to long
And that person we were meant to love
Not knowing is then gone

The way you choose to love someone
Can depend on who you are
But each person that you choose to love
Love with all your heart

Sylvia Plath
"I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead;
I lift my lids and all is born again.
(I think I made you up inside my head.)

The stars go waltzing out in blue and red,
And arbitrary blackness gallops in:
I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead.

I dreamed that you bewitched me into bed
And sung me moon-struck, kissed me quite insane.
(I think I made you up inside my head.)

God topples from the sky, hell's fires fade:
Exit seraphim and Satan's men:
I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead.

I fancied you'd return the way you said,
But I grow old and I forget your name.
(I think I made you up inside my head.)

I should have loved a thunderbird instead;
At least when spring comes they roar back again.
I shut my eyes and all the world drops dead.
(I think I made you up inside my head.)"
