white caps, near her shore
nothing more--those and voices
in the breaking waves

she alone hears,
as code deciphered,
their scribe, she is

faithful to the crashing
rhythm, in which she reads
the dance of the dead

countless fishes' swishes,
harpooned whales’ wailing, myriad men
mourning, as vessels foundered

white caps, waves, sand
symphony she alone hears, sees, smells
and understands as dirge
For Vicki B, though I don't remember why...

I believe in your heart
And the way it makes me feel
As if mine has grown.

I believe in your eyes
And the way they make me feel
As if I'm at home.
I'll always love you.

We made a vow, you and I
In the sight of no-one
Other than our souls
Where the truth dwells
And awaits us

Miles apart within these isles
With hearts keeping time
Living within each other
Without touching
We wait
Until our time arrives

She cries tears of mother's ruin
"Look at me!
It's been so hard
All of my life
And I've had to fight
For my own patch of light
Still, no-one ever looks at me"

He turns his eyes to the floor
Saying nothing
Feeling stupid
And his words burst like bubbles in his mouth
He is desperate to say something
Anything to make her happy
But he cannot turn disappointment
Back into youthful optimism
Or bitterness back to hope
As she sinks into smeary sobs
Wet and bleary loss
He takes her home

He undresses her and puts her to bed
Then he holds her as she cries
And he holds her as she sleeps
He hushes her when she stirs
And calms her when she starts and cries out
When the dreams become too real
And he shall never be more than this
Never more fulfilled
Caring for her is his only purpose
Making her happy is his holy grail
Willingly trapped within her pain
He is nothing else at all

What makes you,
Each morning,
Reach for the words

Flown through ether
Across the ocean?

She feeds my soul

The weirdest sound came from my own voice
I telling him that I was afraid of the water, his teasing voice
Made the sound of the waves rush to shore

And there I was terrify, with the fear of drowning
While trying to be the brave female goddess
My long wet hair looks flawless at the moment in time
And there we were enjoying the four level of happiness on that day.
That was the day when we forget about the worldly things that enslaves us with guilt:

Him and me we made a breakthrough, his genuine smile
and I with my nervous laugh
Our persona shine brighter than any lost diamond in the white sand

we were upbeat, like any other loving couple on the island
as the relaxing sound of the waves electrify us into peaceful pebbles

We made love with our eyes; we tally up the score with our hearts
We officially went from being friends to lovers.

This room—not his
nor the house, the yard
Though a placard bares his name
it slides out
at a moment’s notice
when the waiting ends
when his old hand stops—
twirling, mindless against the loving quilt

This house-- the same
but different
from a distance
He should be sitting in this still life
an old Sachem
on his lawn chair

This garage—where I stand
still his, strangely

Patient tools
Cherry Chevrolet wait
with work gloves resting...
Cannot bring myself to touch
where his hands last laid them
As if to move a thing
would **** the matrix of the man

His moment rushing toward me....

I can hear their whispers now
Leaves, once forbidden
have gathered in his absence
tangled in his hedges
nestled by the stairs
Chattering together—

“Man with the rake—no longer comes”
My father was not someone I could sit with to have a conversation.  That would be like heading into a storm.  I watched him and admired him from a distance.  I didn't truly appreciated him until he was the old man of this poem, sitting in the Soldier's Home, remembering fishing in the Connecticut River and longing to be hiking in the mountains above it.
Sachem is the word for chief or strong man from the northeastern American Abenaki tribes.

From the very first time
I felt that flutter in my belly move
I knew the best gift of life
and that gift was you
My son
My gift from God
You are my happy place
Nothing brights up my day more
than when I see your smiling face
I will do my best to teach you
and raise you right
Always say please and thank you
Know what battles to fight
Do not worry about love, son
You will find the right woman
When you have become the right man
Don't take for granted this life
that god has given you
Treat people the way
you want to be treated
and always see things through
We are not promised tomorrow
So live it well and seize the day
and ride the sun the entire way

time bleeds over wounds
that become scars
that hold the secrets
of an unforgettable love
and the name I whisper
as I cry in my sleep
and I would send flowers
but the house we once shared
has burnt to the ground
and she thought
the death of a rose
was a waste of beauty
and a silly way
to express love
she broke my heart
as I was slowly killing hers
I had grown too comfortable
and forgotten to tend
the garden that we shared
she once claimed it was her mistake
but I know I'm the one to blame
shes the star
of the old black and white film
playing on the skin
of a ghost
shes the girl in the book
about the one that got away
