the days and minutes
are poured out
precious little ones
they need so much

you think you will
collapse
your energy all spent
your mornings fade to night
and start again

the time goes swiftly by
those precious minutes
growing
into years

circling round and round and round

the time...it is a treasure
each memory enshrined
most days
there are no thank yous
for you-mom

the endless love poured out
the bank where it's all stored
you'll find it's  in your heart

it's not contained

for it flows on
and on  and on
and on and on and on

it never ends...

Heartbeats fast
whispers and plans
a mother's heart conflicted
as she wrings her hands
through the courage,
streaming tears
        she will let him go
despite her fears
Outside, canines barking harsh
men's cruel shouts
she must say her goodbyes
as the shots ring out
So many kisses
on his sweet, sleepy face
         little man deep in slumber,
in angelic grace
yes, he cried for a minute
as the morphine kicked in
and she rocked him and rocked him
his little frame, so thin
Now as his father takes him
she crumples to the wall
"By the will of God may I see
him again" she whispers
for he is her all
Outside the freeze
puffs breath into clouds
the quiet imperative for
             this next move:
Father gently slips son
into the rough-hewn jute,
No rotten potatoes today, no
this is far more important
No one will look for a tot
in a potato sack, he hopes
He looks around and slips
through the hole in the wire
These moments are critical
the need for speed is dire
A quick trip to the village
in the black cloak of night
looking over shoulder
Finally the house…it's just there,
the next meadow over
the secret knock is sounded
and the door opened in silence
warm arms greeting, helping
carry the goods inside
Will this be a respite
from all the endless violence?
            Laid gingerly on the bed,
the sack is eased off gently
no potatoes inside
just a small sleeping boy
his parents only pride
Father strokes his hair,
Lays his palms on his head
to bless this bundle of sweetness
in his new environment
"I will come for you, my son"
tucks thin blanket around
and the deed is done
and now, in the cold lonely
smoldering air
of the burning dark
now in the kiss of hopeful protection
yes, now it's time to part

Back to his wife in the ghetto's
cold, sickened  space
to try to convince her
to bust out of that twisted place
You are my warrior, you
and all the others
Your spirit beats on
in my
     naked heart's
            thunder
For my grandfather, badass survivor partisan
who saved my father (and also survived)during the Holocaust by smuggling him out of the ghetto to farmers in a sack of potatoes
My grandmother never made it
Tonight is Holocaust Remembrance Day eve in my part of the world

Another man's shoes never quite fit
the way you'd expect them to
but hey
go figure,
it's the walk that shapes the feet
and everyone's gone places
they would never visit
again

we think we're all on the same page
but
we're writing different books

we think we're literate but
we can only read our own story
and somehow,
every message we send is
unintentionally
encrypted
in ways the greatest minds couldn't decipher
yet we all look up and see
the same sky
the same moon
the same stars
and we all call this land

Alas! YOU have arrived
To soak up my words
May you drink them in
Delight in them
For they were penned for YOU
I know not your name
Nor will I see your face
But, you were on my mind when I wrote them

I knew you would come one day

And be touched by these few words
Not yesterday, not tomorrow, instead today
How was I to know the time
The timing I leave to you

I am just glad you came

Its never too late to proceed
For the words in my poems
Are meant for just the right moment
Filling a need
Easing some pain
Perhaps they turn your frown upside down

That is why ...

I continue to write

And ...

YOU continue to read
Ever notice how people meet your words at just the right moment
when you hit the like button,
and the heart turns red,
or you reshare my work,
it revives me.
Someone always likes something.
Oh and how heartwarming it is
when you leave me a comment.
It fills my spirit,
to know you like what I wrote,
and you cared enough
to read my words.
For you, the viewer,
I respect you.
Everything you are.
I read your comments,
each and every one.
I appreciate them all,
and this is how I thank you.
I really love
how you build me up,
and how you are there for me
when I need you.
Thank you truly
from the bottom of my heart.
You truly make me
bleed diamonds.
to each and every one of you

The 25th of April was just gone
I had no time to prepare
My beautiful kids done wrong
I had to just watch and stare

The mother decided it was best
So they took the bus
The night before was a sleepless rest
Then everything rushed

Now I stay in this dark room
Holding their toys
His favorite was his vroom vroom
Because it made the most noise

The livingroom hasn't been touched
I keep the door closed
This feeling is more than enough
Cause my heart has froze

They were more than just two kids
They gave me light
My niece and nephew outdid
Everything in sight

Rose could barely make words
Cyler was a chatter
Together they were beautiful birds
And the world didn't matter

I taught them beautiful things
Like beatboxing a sound
I wanna handle what life brings
Even if they aren't around

I don't know how to stop my cry
Because I miss my loves
I wish I could've got a better goodbye
*Maybe one last hug...
These kids did more than just touch my heart. They gave me purpose to live another day
