I count the minutes until we can be together
You are missed my friend
  My first love
I knew it from the moment I first picked up a pen
You never judge me
You seem to always love me
You make sense out of every silly thought
In fact at times you turn the weirdest ideas
Into an inspired work of art
For these reasons and so many more
I will love always love you
I will come visit you soon
When  I get to take a study break
   Hopefully soon for sanity's sake
   Lets plan for June
   I will meet you soon
I will bring a notebook and pen
   My love and friend
Your name is like a sweet melody

Carelessly chosen words flung through the air, stabbing into my heart. The jagged tips dipped in the venom of your seething rage. Penetrating echoes of the words fill my mind, echoing without fading away, the poison seeping into my veins. I stood before you as solid as stone, unwavering, seemingly unaware of the on-set of death. I turned without any further words and walked away, each step carrying me further into a state of apparent numbness, not a tear fell.

To you I am strong, you believe I'm fine, unshakable, the epitome of steadiness. You are blind.

As I escaped your view, surpassed your ear's range, the unearthly howl of agony found its voice. I fell to my knees from the searing pain as my heart broke. The tears came so fast and hard that it was just a stream of water flowing from my eyes. The air seemed unwilling to fill my lungs. I lay there dying the death of the heart while the mind and body are forced to carry on.

You are gone, forever gone, never again to return to me. The hope that you would find your way back to me, that there you would stay, erased indefinitely. The snake has spoken, the damage is done, a life is forever altered, I have become undone.

What can be done with the language barrier?
Words can approach the river
But refuse to cross
Heavy with thought and weigh us down
We shape their meaning with crude tools
And leave us staring at trees for solace.
Words are like snowflakes that melt on your arm
Each a unique world, a precise shape
Gone so fast and replaced.
There are so many, I need to ponder
How can I ever know you
If you fade and melt under my cold scrutiny?

What can be done with the language barrier?
Walls need to be scaled
I step upon your syntax to gain perspective
But words fail me when I reach the heights
Let's build a path to bridge the gap
A silent path of smooth stones
Cobbled together under the canopy of leaves
Where we can walk breathless
Hand in hand
Translating the words
That hang unspoken in the misty air.

I was once confined in colossal walls
Each corner and path lead to the unknown
Thought of escaping by flying above this cage
On a contraption Daedalus called his own

I saw the end of the labyrinth
The sweet smell of liberation filled the air
I saw another thing-- much brighter, more captivating
To ignore the beauty of Sol, I wouldn't even dare

I knew reaching the sun was pure insanity
I knew I wasn't supposed to go near it
But what was stopping me?
What could get in the way between you and me?

All my efforts flying up were completely wasted
It didn't even take a while to realize
How the wings made of wax quickly melted
Down I go in utter surprise

I used to think that only animals are kept inside cages
Now I know why hearts are confined in them, too
To keep us from listening to the temptations of its sinful desires
Before we realize it all too soon

I stand at the feet
of this stunning sunset,
The sparks in my eyes,
light each star.

Rhythm of each twinkle,
synced with that of my own.
          Strong and sure,
          albeit few and far.

Nameless wind brings to me,
stories of silky clouds
I pull your smile deep in my heart
and finally can breathe.

Familiar words
          without cloaks nor shrouds.
          Just words...
Yours and mine to reveal what
          our hearts would unsheathe.

What day is this?
Perfect to find
the rebirth of
freshly dewed dreams.

It isn't yesterday
          nor is it tomorrow
          It's today...
Where the sun would see us
          weave our tapestries
          through promise-bound seams.

I feel deep in my heart,
a fluttery stirring,
A hope,
a strength to reach out to you.

This hope you speak of...
Tethered by no thread or string
          Mending my universe
          and making it new.

          So now I stand
at the end of this set...
          Seeking the beacon
          that I had known.
I'd again brave through this day
          tomorrow...
Just so that I could hear your heart
          that beats with my own...

A Riot At My Door*

Have you ever really wondered
The things that you would do
If the riots reached where you lived
All that you would loose

Would you stay and fight for your house
Say this ground is mine
Defend the things that you have
Or leave them all behind

Would you let them take all you've gained
That you've worked for all your life
Say that nothing that you own
Is worth somebody's life

Would you try to truly understand
Say you see their side
Pretend you care what they feel
Then hide and close your eyes

For me I know what I will choose
I can say without a doubt
If you threaten that which I hold dear
My guns they will come out

I can tell you how I know I'll be
If the riots reach my door
I'll protect the lives that I love most
And send you to the lord

"Who is this goddess?" Whispered the sun,
As the moon traversed the sky,
"This angel, silent as a nun,
This silver dragonfly?"

He moved in for a closer gaze,
His heart began to speed,
As through a misty, cloud-spun haze,
He watched the moon proceed;

Soft silver tresses graced her brow,
Her dress, mother-of-pearl,
billowed like sails on a dream-ship's prow,
or curved tsunami-swirl.

"Oh Lady Moon" murmured the sun,
"I burn, I swoon for you.
"Come let me kiss you, gentle one,
Before night passes through."

"Come languish in my warming arms,
To music of nightjars,
Come let me taste those subtle charms,
Dear lady of the stars."

"Ah, do not court frivolity"
He heard the moon reply.
"My purpose is to steer the sea
And yours to light the sky;"

"Why, if I languished here with you,
Tall ships would run aground,
And you must light each day anew
Or all nature confound."

The sun-god would not be deterred,
But kissed her trembling lips.
As they embraced, no sound was heard
Throughout the first eclipse;

Waves lay as mirrors where they kissed,
Until they drew away,
To drift back into heaven's mist,
As night melted to day.
Written 2003, sharing here because of the eclipse earlier today.

If someone says, “And time stood still,”
Consider him an imbecile.
Time creeps, it flies, it disappears,
It changes seconds into years,
Consumes our life,
Each passing day,
And woe the soul
That’s in its way.

Time marches on, as if to war
Countless battles fought before
Why do we refuse to yield?
Lay down our helmet, sword, and shield
Is it so hard
For us to see
That time will claim
The victory?

Time overpowers the strongest men,
And laughs at those who try in vain,
To conquer time, for they will die
Not knowing when, or how, or why
Yes, we will die
While time endures
Time mourns no life
Not mine, not yours.

Time humbles strong, and kills the weak,
It laughs at those who dare to speak,
As if they understand its goal,
Time will extract its rightful toll.
No money spent
Can slow time down.
Time will have
The rich King’s crown.

My body is way beyond bent out of shape
After years and years of abuse
That I might just have time to make my own wake
If I don't soon enough figure out what to do

I've tried this and that, all the fads to be had
The hidden secrets to the fat burn
I've climbed mountain sides, talked with gurus passing by
And still I've yet to learn

I'm setting all the wrong free as skinny keeps eluding me
It's a master on the fly
If only one time it would just find to light
Right around my inner thighs

I'm now thinking my fate is more Shake 'n Bake
Than that of long and lean
Any ideas please feel free to call me
On my direct line down at Krispy Kreme

Night is like my heart's brother
One like the other
My heart is always at rest
It needs someone to detest
Love is hate's brother
One like the other
My heart is too calm and too still
Where are the flames
That are suppose to instill these youthful years
Night is too quiet and nimble
Am I really that simple?
I want to feel butterflies
Fall deep into someone's eyes
Will I be  discovered ?
Or forever be stuck under these covers
Perhaps the dark sky is not just a brother
It is my entity.
