Way back when I was younger
I was mistaken as a dude
They asked all sorts of questions
That slowly grew more rude

"Why don't you wear makeup?
Or dress in something nice?"
"If you ever want to get a guy
Why won't you just take our advice?"

When I began in high school
I had just begun to change
I had bought myself some cheap makeup
And clothes that just felt strange

Still, it wasn't enough though
The insults continued to come
"Ugly. Lazy. Undesirable"
It all began to make me glum

By the beginning of junior year
I had fully given in
Dresses replaced all of my jeans
And makeup covered all my skin

It was then, the insults changed
And people began to glare
Said I "cared too much about my looks"
And my "head must be full of air"

I still always got straight A's
The way I talked was still the same
But though I knew that they were wrong
Their comments made me feel lame

When senior year had rolled around
I was lonely as could be
People "liked" what I'd become
But I felt no one liked me for me

I'd never been on a single date
Because all the guys were crude
So it was only a small amount of time
Before I was labeled as a "*****"

When I finally started college
I expected something more
But people took one look at me
And labeled me a *****

I had not been sleeping around
I still hadn't even been on a date
Everyone just made assumptions
And looked at me with hate

The part that was most ironic
Was that after all these years
Of changing to be whatever they said
I was still hated by all my peers

I didn't want to dress like this
I didn't want to just conform
But there is only so much a person can take
Before they need to fit the "norm"

Society is what destroyed me
They are the reason I am this way
I changed to be what people wanted
Now I understand: I'll never see that day

I don't know who I am now
Though everyone else thinks that they do
Now please just take one piece of advice
It's so important to just stay you

You are perfect just as you are
So continue to stay strong
Remember no matter what they tell you
What society says is **wrong
Well....This is by far the longest I have ever spent on a poem....and the longest thing I've ever written. But though it is FAR from perfect, it was well worth it in my opinion, because this is something so personal and important to me.
To everyone reading this poem; no matter how old or young you are, no matter where you are, who you are, or what you have been through, please just remember you are uniquely beautiful and wonderful. People are going to tell you your whole life, that you are not good enough, or that you need to change to be accepted. ***** them. They are wrong. You have something so unique to offer the world. You are amazing and beautiful, and perfect and you DO NOT need to change. Stay strong and be EXACTLY who you are. Let yourself grow and evolve the way YOU want. Then years from now, when you have become the best you, the person YOU want to be, you can show society what true happiness, success, and beauty look like. <3 I know that all sounds super cheesy and cliche, but I don't care, and I mean every cheesy word of it.
<333333333 Stay wonderful everyone <333333333

The little vacuum wished it would
Grow up and be like its cousin, the
Bag less wonder, he could clean
Places where others couldn,t dream
Of, he was the three wheeled wonder,
The little vacuum wanted to be like
So much and more.

He was taken out of his box twice a
Week, his mother was the toaster his
Dad was a fridge, she made him toasty,
But he gave her the shivers, but in a
Good way my family are like others for sure.

Buttons pressed on and off, his hose was
His nose all kinds of things he sniffed up
From crumbs to socks. But the smell always
Blocked his nose and he did sneeze, out
Come the sock, dust and all, where once
Their was clean carpet there was dust and
Mouldy apple core.

Was it the sock or the apple moldy with
Colour of boggy green and rottern black,
How long had that been inside rotting at
His core. He felt not so good, every time
Turned on he would blow a cloud of dust,
Not ******* it back.

He was down, his hose was not at its best,
He felt like he,d ****** up a cactus, and
The taste was like a soggy moggy or the
Stinkest cheese mixed with a wet sock could
You imagine that.

His mother said you need to keep toasty,
His dad gave him the cold shoulder and
Said son man up, that was the end of that.

So they took him out of the box, thoughts
Went through the little vacuums switch,
Would he end up like uncle larry. He was
A proud drill but one day he could keep it
In, it feel out they said a ***** was lose, that
Was the end of that. Last I heard he was
Recycled, his parts now used everywhere
Scary is that.

So I was lifted out, my nose off it came they
Were washing it under the tap,They opened
Me up to look inside, I felt air in my insides
A weird feeling is that, a bag they took out
Looking worse for wear, had that been inside
Me since they had first unboxed me, gross they
Said was it me I thought, but it was the bag in fact.

They were gentle as they washed my insides,
It tickled me I let out a giggle, they looked at
Each other was that you, not me could have
Been the cat.

Refreshed I felt as they put my hose on
I could breath once more and fresh scents,
Not the smell of a wet moogy, how much
Better was that. A new bag they put in me,
Then closed the cap, I waited for the switch,
Nothing happened, was I to be like uncle
Larry, but they hadnt plugged me in how
Silly is that.

So a whoosh and a sound and I sounded great,
I felt like I was new out the box, so proud was
I, that I cleaned the whole house in record time
In fact. So this is my tail of the little vacuum,
Who was under the weather, but if he,d only
Washed regularly but he cant be blamed for that.

He was a happy and knew one day he would
Grow up to be like his bagless cousin and
Make his dad chill out be proud of him, his
Mother she was already proud of what he did
Around the house.

They would hold their  hands up
High in search of golden nuggets,
Their dummies held up to the sky.

The map showing them where X did
Mark a spot, they crawled on their
Merry way, through sand they did
Crawl, slowly never would they stop.

They didn't want it in a skull *****,
X marked the brown pongy spot. A
Bottom full of sand would slow a
Pirate baby down, making them
Uncomfortable  crying as their treasure
Unreached they would have had to stop.

They crawled under fallen trees, through
Shrub and looked up, and saw the branches
Reaching for the sky. They were nearly
There they had crawled for 20 feet and
Stopped twice for nap times, as it was
Far away in baby steps not like big foot.

They had reached there goal with dummies
In hand, many dangers faced but together
As a crew they got to the treasured land.

X was their goal and it did mark a spot,
Where the golden nuggets shined in that
Spot. Where the rusks had that golden tint,
And that yummy taste as they went down
With a bottle Of hot milk in hand that really
Hit that nap time spot.

Dummies held up high they had reached that
Promised land, where treasure was eaten an
Then nap time was coming close to hand, gogo
And goodnight.

When the wolf was around people would stare,
he would take a breath in a huff and a puff ,
and in the distance people would run scared.
not knowing if blown to the four corners they
didn't want it to be there turn to be blown away.

He gave a grin with his teeth showing bare, people
did stare imagination ran wild that if opened
swallowed whole with only there toes sticking
out, as a final gulp of air and then no more eaten
with out a care.

But as he approached they were with fright and a
scare, not knowing what he would do or where.
Then he spoke and looks turned to stares.

He explained to all around he was a vegan,
and meat did he frown, the reason he had to
huff and puff was the asthma medicne made
him less wheezy and could breath out with
out a care.

Not to judge a book by its cover till you have
talked and got to know the person, so people
appoched even three pigs who were the reason
that everyone whispered and apoligised for
what they had spread around and they did care.

In my travels, I happened to find this little box. It has no key, and has no locks. So, sit back, sip a cup of coffee, or favorite drink, relax for a little while,  and hopefully, enjoy the ride:

On the table, the box it sits-
All six sides of equal fit-
What is the mystery inside-?
What are the secrets that it hides?
This little box--
That has no key--and has no locks.

The Oracles of Delphi-the hermits on the peak-
Claimed to see the future-but in truth they did not seek-
The power of this little box-
That has no key ----- and has no locks.

It doesn't eat! It doesn't breath!!
But oft it can, and will, relieve
Your fears of the fiercest days ahead--
All within this little box-
That has no key---------and has no locks.

When clouds gather, dark and drea'r--
Eyes swell, and start to tear--
It's not a curse! nor a pox!
Just pick up the little box--
That has no key---------------and has no locks.

So, with great ferocity--
Quench your thirst of curiosity!
Discover the secrets held within!!
Feel the power again, and again!!!
Learn the mystery of the box--
That has no key--------------------and has no locks

(YOU MAY NOW OPEN THE BOX)

Put together with guise and guile--
With hopes that it will make you smile-
So, now you know the mystery--
And the secret of the box-
There never was a need -- for keys and locks!!!

I just couldn't do without
my grandma's heart necklace -
It was a gift to me, although
she passed away when I was little.

It also holds all of my mad,
sad, and happy memories,
just like it is a part of me.
I wear it on very special occasions,
since it is so unique.

When I wear it close to my heart-
it makes me feel special.
That's why I would always
feel happy, or at least, a little joyful,
when I hold it to my chest-
to pretend my grandma is
still alive.

She was very important to me-
We did so much together,
and I miss her,
and the special times we shared.

I can feel her with me
when I wear it, or hold it,
close to me.

Without this prized possession,
all of my feelings
would be lost,
with my grandma, in the sky.

My heart necklace
means the world to me,
and I wouldn't change
anything about it.

People say
"jewelry is made
to look beautiful."

Well, I say,
It was made to be a
"Memory Holder!!"

My granddaughter Emily, wrote this essay as a class assignment for her 3rd Grade class. Originally in full page, essay form, I divided it into stanzas, and added some punctuation. Although there are some misspellings(two), I chose not to correct them, but to leave the content as it was written, in order to preserve the sincerity, and the innocence, with which it was written. Thank you, so much, Emily Riddle.

"Daddy,

Why does the sky sparkle, like glitter thrown
Around a room. like fire flies sitting still in
Darkness shining their light on me and you.

"Sweet heart,

The universe is a wondrous place, of everything
And nothing in one big expanding space.

"Daddy,

What's expanding??

"Sweet heart,

The sky is every moving further away, but these
Little glowing sparkles are suns shining away,
Each is life, burning so bright a long, long way away.

"Daddy,

Will I see them, will I ever great these diamonds
Burning brightly in the sky, can I touch that which
Twinkles in my eyes.

"Sweet heart,

You are always near to those that give light to the
Sky, they see you looking up, see the twinkle in
The stars dancing in your eyes.

"Daddy,

I see them dancing in the darkness, I see them
Shooting across the clear night sky. I wish I
Was a star floating all the way up there I would
Shine from a million miles afar.

"Sweetheart,

Shall I tell you a secret?

"Daddy,

Yes o yes please.

"Sweetheart,*

We are all star dust from the beginning of
Time, everything has a little piece of a star
In it, we are all carry a little part of the
Universe every person, flower and raindrop
That also falls from the sky..
Written for my daughter who loves space as much as her daddy :) astronaut in training
Long wooden book shelf on the floor.
Open spaces filled with treasures
collected by my brother and three sisters.

Our toys lived there
that we all shared.
Made to last and so special.

Pots and pans hidden in
the corners of Mama's cupboards,
pulled out in excited anticipation

along with wooden spoons and
anything that would bang.
Our band in full swing, joyously loud.

Tables and scattered chairs
covered in blankets n' sheets,
created our own secret room.

Fabric walls secured by old books
Decorated comfy with pillows
from our beds
We were invisible to the world

Made it so easy to run away...
to our home away from home

Wings did flutter upon a kaleidoscope in the heavens,

Grazing upon the chimes of coloured skies ink,

What was transparent, now glazed with blush,

More followed once the same now individual,

Heavens high were a blaze of colour once more .
When Butterflies had transparent wings then a rainbow happened by, and inked each one different never the same once more

I was different from the others,
Once I lived in a shell,
It was ok most of the time,
Till the thunder
It rumbled, then,
"PHEW"
It seeped in to the shell,
I learnt to hold my breath,
Then I stretched and
Crack,
Creak,
"WOW"
That first steps a big one!!!
I'll take the back door thank you,
As I waddle upon twigs and sticks,
"Mamma"
"Mamma"
"WOW"
What floor is this,

"Little one of feather and beak"
"You are twenty feet up"
"Any lower and we are cat feed"

Gulp as I looked over the edge down below.

"Now you were safe within your little shell"
"This is the wide world"
"Full of wonder but danger as well"

What are these things that hang from me mum,

"They are feather my little one"
"With these you will feel the wind beneath your feet"

Can I fly right now?

"No little one"
"You must learn to walk"
"Before air glides beneath feet"

Mother looked on with proud eyes as her little one
With small claws did try fumbled, fell,
But always got up.
Time passed a day or two, feathers dry
And feet were working too,

"Now little one are you ready to be free"
"To soar upon the winds up their"

"What mama"
"You want me to do what"

But I don't like heights,
I never go near the edge of the nest,
Like my bro and sister who have already taken flight.

"You must first conquer your fear"
"Let your heart breath free"

"I want to mamma"

"I believe in you son"

So with pride in heart and my mothers
Words in my mind,
I looked at the edge of twigs and leaves
I stepped forward, then back
Then remembered mama's words.

"You must first conquer your fear"
"Let your heart breath free"

And with that moment in mind,
I stepped,
Feathers out proudly as feet met air
And I opened my eyes
I was free.........
I was one with the wind and clouds
I had conquered my fears as mamma said.

"Soar high my little feather"
"You have made a mamma proud"

I heard her voice and tweeted with happiness
The ground was my fear, but the air was my freedom.
We must overcome our fears to fly free
