Would you love a girl,
With a smile that didn't reach her eyes,
And you could see how much pain that smile hides.
Would you love a girl,
That was quite to hide her problems,
And even though everybody would ask,
No one but you got them.
Would you love a girl,
Who had huge dreams,
And had an even bigger heart,
That nobody but you can see.
Would you love a girl,
Who's wrists held her scars,
And if you followed those down,
You'd see the same ones on her heart.
Would you love a girl,
Who has dreams about her wanting to die,
Would you love this girl?
And my question is, why?
Temper reveals everything.

The machinery
of grace is simple.

We are made of
newspaper and smoke.
It was windy that night, all those questioned agreed,
when the woman was struck by some falling debris.
It was here on West 12th Street,at the corner of Seventh,
by the condo they’re building on the site of Saint Vincent’s.
A section of plywood had chanced to fall,
driving “Tina” Nguyen head first into a wall.
She fell to the pavement and she struck her head.
They rushed her to Bellevue, but she was already dead.
Was it chance? Was it fate? Was it some Divine plan?
Her death was so random, so hard to understand.
We walk these same streets, so I think you’ll agree
It could have been you. It might have been me.
( Tina Nguyen, a Real Estate Broker, was killed on 03/18/2015 by falling debris near the site of the old Saint Vincent’s medical center)
This dirt under my
Fingernails is from crawling out
Of holes that Life
Threw me into.

Well... at times I jumped in
Without help.
The point is
I know how to get out.

I'll teach you; here, take
My hand. I might even let
You have the whole arm.
But know:

The moment you try to
Pull me down for a quick fix
Of company and comfort, I'm
Letting go.

Life is more than holes.
More than self-pity.
The sun never searches for
A cold face to kiss.
