THE RULE OF JUSTICE
Cedric McClester Oct 2018
By: Cedric McClester

The rule of justice
They will abort
If they place Brett Kavanaugh
On the Supreme Court
While Ginsburg and Bryer’s
Time could be short
Kavanaugh is everything
His Conservative base sought

We can say goodbye
To Roe v Wade
If this devil’s bargain
Is finally made
Kavanaugh unfortunately
Doesn’t make the grade
He’s the President’s puppet
Whom we must forbade

Kavanaugh clearly lacks
The judicial temperament
Of those sitting Justices
Who’ve already been sent
To the highest court
In this troubled land
He’s a liar and past drunk
From what I understand

Mitch McConnell seems
In such an awful rush
That as far as he’s concerned
The FBI can just hush
Because he wants Kavanaugh
So very much
Which just goes to show us
That he’s out of touch

LORD AND SAVIOR
Cedric McClester Apr 2022
By: Cedric McClester

If I accept him
As my Lord and Savior
Could you tell
By my behavior?
Would that give me
Some kind of waiver?
That endows me with
Special favor?

If I accept him
As my God
Would that not be
Kind of odd?
Or by definition
Flawed?
And would that not be
A tad too broad?

If I accept the trinity
Or claim that he
Is one of three
What would that then
Say of me?
When one has never
Equaled three
Nor does it fit mathematically

If Holy Mary is
The Mother of God
Instead of an oft repeated
Facade
Let her strike me down
With her awesome rod
Upon the ground
In which she trods

WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR NEWS?
Cedric McClester Dec 2016
By: Cedric McClester

I should have known
By the clues
Where you
Get your news
It’s the internet
If I had to choose
With conspiracy theories
By twos

It isn’t
A mystery
And all can
Plainly see
It’s the First Amendment
That’s key
Which I can pointed out
If need be

And as long
As it’s around
Certain things
Are bound to go down
False news
That exists to confound
In doses
That can make you  drown

Nothing beats
An errant tweet
That folks
Sometimes repeat
Often before
They delete
After laying it
At our feet

MISS IRENE
Cedric McClester Aug 2018
By: Cedric McClester

Ms. Irene left
An indelible impression
To her family and friends
She was one of God’s blessings
And her passing now
Does nothing to lessen
The fond memory of
Her effervescence

Ms. Irene
Was one-of-a-kind
When I think of her
The word love comes to mind
A better person
Would be hard to find
Someone as giving
And also as kind

I beg your indulgence
For this personal note
She made the best fried chicken
And that you can quote
Which I happily
Swallowed down my throat
But sadly I must say
That’s all that she wrote

She leaves behind
A strong legacy
An object lesson
Of what a mother can be
The example she set
For us all to see
Let’s thank the Lord
That now she is free

WE’VE BEEN YOUR BLESSING
Cedric McClester Aug 2019
By: Cedric McClester

Four hundred years
Of blood. sweat, and  tears
And despite our fears
It often appears
Very strange
How little has changed
As if prearranged
We’re still estranged

As time has elapsed
Our hopes have collapsed
We’re caught in the traps
Set by others perhaps
But still we endure
As we did before
And desire more
That is for sure

Though the picture is bleak
We are not weak
We’ll continue to speak
About what we seek
Those inalienable rights
Despite our plights
Are still in our sights
They’re not just for whites

A salient fact is
We’re not going back
We have the knack
To get what we lack
So here’s my confession
Despite your aggression
Here is the lesson
We’ve been your blessing

WHO KNEW?
Cedric McClester Apr 2019
By: Cedric McClester

I guess it’s appropriate to ask,
Who knew,
That the Mueller Probe was
Really a coup?
Or nefarious plot, hatched
To undue
The 2016 presidential election,
Right church, wrong pew

Once again you could say
That the President lied
By recently saying that
The British spied
On the Trump Campaign
A charge they denied
Is he a conspiracy theorist?
I’ll let you decide

And just in case you have
Any doubt
That he might leave President
Obama out
You need to eat more
Brussel Sprouts
Cuz it’s someone else’s fault
He always shouts

He likes to be briefed
Cuz he never reads
To get the information
A president needs
By hook or crook
He somehow succeeds
In staying afloat
Despite his deeds

Cedric McClester Nov 2017
By: Cedric McClester

“I wonder how many me,s there are?
Said the alleged victim, who bares the scar
Left by a child molester who passed the bar
Upon his denial, so there you are
She’s quite convinced that she’s not alone,
Not the only underage one that he has known
Now that it’s out that it’s out there
His cover is blown

I wonder how many me,s there might be
That have yet to come forward, guess we’ll have to see
Because refreshingly, women seem to be free
To speak truth to power no matter who it might be
They’re coming out in droves, one after another
And his inclination is to deny and to smother
What they have to say that he did back when
The pendulum favored solely the men

I wonder how many me,s are out there
Who’ve been put through the wringer, and do we care?
About the sordid details that they finally share
Now that they’ve made us painfully aware
I wonder about this too instead
Is the issue isolated or is it widespread
Those are the things that have entered my head
Based on what I’ve heard that somebody said

I wonder how many me,s remain silent
Choosing to be your average shrinking violet
Whether their ****, was docile or was violent
They’re still gonna act as if they’re Inviolate
But all of those me,s out there, know the deal
It’s not speculation for them it’s for real
And they’ve chosen to let us kn ow how they feel
Which has been met with mass appeal

THERE GOES ANOTHER MISSLE
Cedric McClester Sep 2019
By; Cedric McClester

There goes another missle
In the North Korean sky
Which he  dismisses summarily
But he hasn’t told us why
All we hear from him
Is how much he loves the guy
The fact he is being played
Is something that he’ll deny

He talks about the nice letters
That his lover writes
‘Cuz he knows how to bait the hook
And also what excites
A dotard like his lover
Whom he envisions in tights
While he luls him to sleep
On those restless nights

South Korea and Japan
Understandably have concern
Because they know that the doltard
Is the type that will not learn
His hand is on a hot stove
But they'll probably get  burned
Once his lover reveals himself
And the table has finally turned

He hasn’t gone ballistic
As far as the doltard knows
But that’s not necessarily
What our intelligence shows
But he regularly ignores them
So we’ll have to take the blow
Perhaps he could think more clearly
Without ******* up his nose

TRUTH TO POWER
Cedric McClester Apr 2015
By: Cedric McClester

Speak truth to power
Make your voice heard
Especially when your silence
Might be what's preferred
Truth crushed to earth
Will one day rise again
And those who are now in  power
Won't be in the end

Speak truth to power
And don't be afraid
Of what can happen
Once that choice is made
God is on the side
Of those who persevere
And in the face of struggle
Show patience not despair

Speak truth to power
Because the truth needs to be heard
Each and every syllable
Comprising every word
People need to hear the truth
Every now and then
It becomes so critical
That the truth gets in

GUNSMOKE
Cedric McClester Feb 2022
By: Cedric McClester

On city streets
It ain’t no joke
You can choke
On all the gunsmoke
From young men
Who go for broke
But how many of us
Can say that we’re woke?

The innocent die
For no good reason why
With families and loved ones
Left to cry
While perpetrators
Seek their alibis
Because what they did
Makes them despised

Their calling card is
The reckless disregard
They have for others
Their sisters and brothers
And what of the mothers
Who if given their druthers
Would prefer that reason
Ruled over all others

But it’s the innate
Examples of self-hate
That gives this debate
Such added weight
The consequences of which
We can easily state
Are readily apparent
For us to calculate

I DON'T THINK IT'S FAIR
Cedric McClester May 2019
By: Cedric McClester

She was the apple
Of her dad’s eye
Now he’s left to wonder
The reason why
‘Cuz he didn’t know
When she told him goodbye
It would be the last time
He’d see her alive

I don’t think it’s fair
That she isn’t here
Cuz the pain was
Too much for her to bare
Her loved ones stare
Lookin’ out at nowhere
Becuz’ of their grief
And inward despair

Her mom misses her
Every moment of the day
And thinks of the circumstances
That took her away
Her school knew about it
But they didn’t say
Although at her funeral
They sent a bouquet

She lived with the teasing
Bullying and pain
Though she had a hard time
Tryna explain
The tortured thoughts
That ran through her brain
Until she jumped
And downward she came

WISH THAT I WERE...
Cedric McClester Feb 2016
By: Cedric McClester;

Wish that I were clever
I’d write you a rhyme
My love is forever
It won’t fade with time
But I lack the talent
As well as the skill
To say that I love you
And I always will

I wish I was a poet
I’d write you a poem
To convey my gratitude
For the love you've shown
But I lack the knowledge
And the facility
To express everything
That’s inside of me

Wish that I were many things
That I might never be
Wish I had a way with words
But I don’t unfortunately
If I could paint a picture
Of my love for you
Believe me sweetheart
That's exactly what I would do

I wish oh so many things
That might not come true
Like gathering up the courage
Just to say that I love you
I only hope I show it
Because this much is true
I have never felt the way
That I do with you

Wish that I were many things
That I might never be
Wish I had a way with words
But I don’t unfortunately
If I could paint a picture
Of my love for you
Believe me sweetheart
That's exactly what I would do

I wish for so many things
That might not come true
Like gathering up the courage
Just to say that I love you
I only hope I show it
Because this much is true
I have never felt the way
That I do with you
Wish That I Were are song lyrics written by Cedric McClester and Giorgio Alessani.

CERTAIN PEOPLE
Cedric McClester Mar 2016
By: Cedric McClester

Certain people
Never learn
You get from life
What you earn
Nero fiddled
While Rome burned
Today it seems like
It’s his  turn

Some live to
Incite a riot
Hatred is part
Of their diet
Let them try
They can’t deny it
And if they did
Who would buy it

Hate mongers
Invite others
Mostly those
Without their druthers
At any rate
They hate brothers
Usually labeled
As those others

Some live to
Incite a riot
Hatred is part
Of their diet
Let them try
They can’t deny it
And if they did
Who would buy it

Certain people
Have no shame
Hope I don’t have to
Name a name
To him everybody
Is fair game
Though he doesn’t want to
Take the blame

Y’all know who
I’m talkin’ ‘bout
It ain’t that hard
To figure out
But just in case
There’s any doubt
He’s always
The odd man out

Some live to
Incite a riot
Hatred is part
Of their diet
Let them try
They can’t deny it
And if they did
Who would buy it

Y’all know who
I’m talkin’ ‘bout
It ain’t that hard
To figure out
But just in case
There’s any doubt
He’s always
The odd man out

SOMETHING HAS CHANGED
Cedric McClester Sep 2016
By: Cedric McClester,

Lately I wonder
If you still care
I come home from work
And you’re not there
My breakfast and dinner
You used to prepare
Now you make excuses
And I’m quite aware

Something has changed
When did it begin
See I get the message
You’re starting to send
We’re in the middle
But it feels like the end
So stop the charade
You don’t have to pretend

Where are you spending
Most of your time
Cuz it’s not with me
And that’s just a crime
It’s not like I can’t see
You know I’m not blind
And I’m starting to think
That you’re no longer mine

Something has changed
When did it begin
See I get the message
You’re starting to send
We’re in the middle
But it feels like the end
So stop the charade
You don’t have to pretend

Was it something I did
Or something I said
That made you start looking
That far ahead
All of your signals
Were easily read
Seems you’re telling me
That our love is dead

It’s clear as day
That I care for you
In spite of the things
That you’ve chosen to do
Everything I’m saying
You already knew
No need acting like
It comes out of the blue

Something has changed
When did it begin
See I get the message
You’re starting to send
We’re in the middle
But it feels like the end
So stop the charade
You don’t have to pretend

Where are you spending
Most of your time
Cuz it’s not with me
And that’s just a crime
It’s not like I can’t see
You know I’m not blind
And I’m starting to think
That you’re no longer mine
Something has changed
When did it begin
See I get the message
You’re starting to send
We’re in the middle
But it feels like the end
So stop the charade
You don’t have to pretend

Everything that Trump touches dies
And every day Sarah Huckabee lies
To keep her job if I had to surmise
Even though she should go and cut ties
What will she do after he’s impeached?
Be a stay at-home-mom who’s overreached
Because obviously decorum’s been breeched
Like a whale stuck on shore she’ll be beached

That brings us to Kellyanne Conway
Lying to her is merely child’s play
She tries her best to have the last say
While keeping the press safely at bay
Though her reputation will not be in tact
That’s not conjecture, it’s an actual fact
Not an alternative hatched to distract
But a reality that can be backed

Now if you want someone who is iller
We can begin with Steven Miller
Who could have been cast in MJ’s Thriller
He’s definitely not a lady killer
I guess we could call him a policy wonk
If you agree with me, let me hear you honk?
Were he a horse he’d be a bronc
And if he played cards he’s lose at Poker and Tonk

Everything that Trump touches dies
Cuz he is surrounded by the unwise
Who cling to him like family ties
They’re addicted to power no one denies
Let’s look at all of the president’s men
Like Manafort, Cohen and what about Flynn
And let’s look at all the doo doo they’re in
But I’m at my wit’s end as to where to begin

LORD I WANT TO THANK YOU
Cedric McClester Oct 2016
By: Cedric McClester

This is my true story
And it’s begging to be told
Once I was so distant
That it turned most people cold
The only one I cared about
Happened to be me
I was rapped up in myself
And that was plain to see

Lord I want to thank you
For giving me this day
And I want to thank you
For all you’ve sent my way
Lord I am so grateful
For what you’ve given me
I was self-absorbed
Before you set me free

People called me selfish
But that was just a word
My ego was out of control
In case you haven’t heard
To say I was conceited
Understates the case
I couldn’t pass a mirror
Without checking my face

Lord I want to thank you
For giving me this day
And I want to thank you
For all you’ve sent my way
Lord I am so grateful
For what you’ve given me
I was self-absorbed
Before you set me free

I’m a different person
Than I was yesterday
Lord I want to thank you
And I want to say
If you hadn’t rescued me
I’d probably still be lost
Out there on the avenue
Thinking I’m the boss

Lord I want to thank you
For giving me this day
And I want to thank you
For all you’ve sent my way
Lord I am so grateful
For what you’ve given me
I was self-absorbed
Before you set me free

No one would have ever guessed
That I could ever change
If you claimed that back then
They’d look at you so strange
But miracles do happen
They happen everyday
So don’t hold it against me
Because one came my way

Lord I want to thank you
For giving me this day
And I want to thank you
For all you’ve sent my way
Lord I am so grateful
For what you’ve given me
I was self-absorbed
Before you set me free

THEY MAY LOVE HIM…
Cedric McClester Nov 2016
By: Cedric McClester

They may love him
But I refuse
To see him as anything
Other than my muse
See I won’t let him
Give me the blues
Cuz I say to myself
What is the use

They may love him
And while that’s alright
Why should I care
If he’s up late at night
Giving somebody
A three am tweet
Which is a dumb thing
He’ll no doubt repeat

They may love him
And that’s understood
Which is not to suggest
That everything’s good
They're burning his effigy
Cuz he knew he would
Alienate everyone
That he thought he could

They may love him
Although I do not
I think of him
As an irreverent snot
But be that as it may
He’s what we got
Is there any wonder
Why we’re in a rut?

Despite our call for law and order
Every day drugs cross the border
They think of it as free trade
With the markets that they’ve made
And let me say another thing
We consume all that they bring
They’re only doing what they can
To supply what we demand

I know where the needle goes
And what you’re snorting up your nose
I know more than you suppose
About the choices that you chose
Home of the brave land of the free
While all of that well may be
There’s a huge dichotomy
Between those things and what I see

We have blinders on our eyes
Yet we’re real quick to criticize
Others but nevertheless
We helped to create this mess
As long as they know that we’ll buy
The tons of drugs that they supply
They are gonna keep on coming
Whether or not the thought is numbing

It shouldn’t come as a surprise
That some want us to legalize
The kinds of drugs that we ingest
Is it worth exploring nevertheless
Let’s give weight and proper measure
To those drugs we seem to treasure
Rather than us just ignoring
All the lives that it's destroying

Haiti Has Been Devastated
Cedric McClester Nov 2017
By: Cedric McClester

Haiti has been devastated
Like bomb ravaged Iraq
From the hurricane, but now
He wants to send them back
Could the reason be because
Haitian people are black
That they now are finding themselves
Under Mr. Trump’s attack?

Makes you wonder why his actions
Are so inhumane
When it comes to people of color
They’re not treated quite the same
As others under similar circumstances
Who might have also came
Could it be that he’s a racist
If we must give it a name?

Look at Puerto Rico in Maria’s aftermath
If it wasn’t so sad
It would probably make you laugh
At how rescue operations
Have been inadequately staffed
Hiring a two-man company
Couldn’t be just a gaff
To restore the electricity
Destroyed in Maria’s path

These are just two stark examples
But we’re beginning to see
A very clear and certain pattern
If you’re asking me
Under the past administration
That would never be
In this land of the brave
And home of the free

EMPTY WORDS
Cedric McClester Jan 2018
By: Cedric McClester

They’re empty words
That have no meaning
From a man
Who’s been convening
Sycophants
That you’ll find leaning
Towards his message
Of spring cleaning

Immigrants he says
Are bad
From his perspective
When you add
Chain migration
Past the dyad
Of the nuclear family
It’s a launching pad

Give him his wall
And so he says
He’ll spare them all
‘Cos he’s the Pres’
As long as they’re
Not named Valdez
Or they’re not
From places like Juarez

He wants us all
To kumbaya
But that may be
A bridge too far
For most to ever
Reach that bar
Because he takes things
Much too far

HOW CAN YOU...?
Cedric McClester Apr 2016
By: Cedric McClester

How can you make me believe
That it’s that easy for you to leave
You say it’s over and we’re through
Did you ever love me like I loved you
If I meant anything to you at all
Then how can you make that kind of call
We didn’t even have a fight
Something about it doesn’t seem right

You’re telling me you need your space
Let’s part as friends in any case
Like it’s that easy to erase
The love that both of us embraced

Are we supposed to just be friends
When we still have some loose ends
I loved you too much to anticipate
That we would reach an expiration date
Or in this dichotomy I’d get caught
See it’s heart breaking to realize
That there was nothing
Behind your eyes

You’re telling me you need your space
Let’s part as friends in any case
Like it’s that easy to erase
The love that both of us embraced

I really don’t know
Where to go from here
It’s not as easy as it may appear
To make the transition
I’m just being sincere
I’d still want to kiss you
If you come near

(3rd Verse)
Don’t bother to give me any false hope
Of us getting back together
Just so I can cope
Cuz you can’t clean it
With a bar of soap
I’d still be confused
And feel disabused
Neither of which I’d ever choose

You’re telling me you need your space
Let’s part as friends in any case
Like it’s that easy to erase
The love that both of us embraced

How can you make me believe
That it’s that easy for you to leave
You say it’s over and we’re through
Did you ever love me like I loved you
If I meant anything to you at all
Then how can you make that kind of call
We didn’t even have a fight
Something about it doesn’t seem right

SOME MAY DISAGREE
Cedric McClester Apr 2017
By: Cedric McClester

Offensive to some
Others I leave numb
That doesn’t make me dumb
Nor am I a ***
I have to keep it real
And write down
What I feel
So now you know the deal

To some I’m erudite
And they might be right
So don’t take me light
Just because I’m bright
Be that as it may
I hear the things you say
But I’m taking note anyway
I hope that is okay

Some may disagree
And that’s alright with me
No need to fight you see
One’s taste is always key
You may hate the most
That I can be verbose
Before you start to roast
Let’s just drink a toast

Do you love my art
Because it’s an integral part
Of who I am at heart
That’s one place we can start
If you want to understand
The nature of this man
But only if you can
Eventually become a fan

MOTHERS OF THE DEAD
Cedric McClester Apr 2015
By: Cedric McClester

Mothers of the dead
United in their grief
The pain they share in common
Offers no relief
From the nagging question
Did they have to die
In the way they did
They're just asking why

Mothers of the dead
Hear them as they cry
Looking up to God
For the answer why

Mothers of the dead
Want so to believe
It wasn't all in vain
Small comfort as they grieve
Still they have to wonder
Through their pain and doubt
Was it necessary for us to go that route

Mothers of the dead
Are each handed a flag
A token from our country
Their heavy hearts still sag
From the weight of sorrow
They've been made to bear
Their sense of loss and pride
Is equaled by despair

SYSTEMIC RACISM
Cedric McClester Apr 2021
By: Cedric McClester

Systemic racism
Doesn’t exist
Senator Lindsey Graham
Would probably insist
But that doesn’t mean
That he’s not remiss
See this is why they say
Ignorance is bliss

Systemic racism deniers
Point to the gains
That some blacks have made
Which has loosen their chains
But that notwithstanding
The fact still remains
Systemic racism exits
Despite their refrains

Systemic racism
Is a salient fact
Look at the rights
They wanna take back
Like the right to vote
Which is anti-black
In spite of us having
A Voting Rights Act

Systemic racism
Is insidious
And it is worthy
Of our mutual disgust
See it not only harms
Just some of us
Though it’s mostly blacks
Who put up a fiuss

Now that the tea’s been spilt
It’s conscientiousness of guilt
Like a game machine you tilt
His image can’t be rebuilt
Although his many apologists
Will no doubt still insist
While balling up their fists
Simply, he must resist

Now that the tea’s been spilt
We see a patchwork quilt
The knife’s in to the hilt
In time we’ll watch him wilt
By now we all should know
The rules of quid-pro-quo
His nose is bound to grow
Remember who told you so

Now that the tea’s been spilt
We see him walking on a stilt
So we know what’s under his kilt
And he isn’t that well built
So let me take time to expand
By asking what manner of man?
He’s used to having the upper hand
But they’ll impeach him on demand

Now that the tea’s been spilt
And everything’s atilt
His voice has a weary lilt
Who else must he try to jilt?
All his sycophants
Must be peeing in their pants
As he carries on and rants
They may not get a second chance

WHERE DO I GO FROM HERE?
Cedric McClester Apr 2015
By: Cedric McClester

After I’ve picked up the pieces
Of my broken heart
Long after the sadness ceases
Tell me where do I start
I have no idea because it’s not clear
Where do I go from here

I guess if I had my druthers
I’d forget you
And entertain others
But after having got laid
Their memories would fade
‘Cos it would only be a charade

Where do I go from here
To make the past that we shared disappear
And what can I do to erase
The memory of your lovely face
See I wish I knew what I could do
To accept the fact that we’re through

I wish I was more like you
And I could put it all behind
But that’s something I can’t do
Play those kind of tricks with my mind
Though I’m doin’ my best I must confess
If I didn’t say so I’d be lying

Where do I go from here
To make the past that we shared disappear
And what can I do to erase
The memory of your lovely face
See I wish I knew what I could do
To accept the fact that we’re through

After I’ve picked up the pieces
Of my broken heart
Long after the sadness ceases
Tell me where do I start
I have no idea because it’s not clear
Where do I go from here

Where do I go from here
To make the past that we shared disappear
And what can I do to erase
The memory of your lovely face
See I wish I knew what I could do
To accept the fact that we’re through

HE’S AN ASS KISSER
Cedric McClester Jan 2020
By: Cedric McClester

He’s an *** kisser
And it’s plain to see
Where he’s coming from
There’s no mystery
Clearly he’s not the man
That he used to be
And it’s becoming obvious
If you’re asking me

He’s an *** kisser
There’s no doubt
He’s not very hard
For us to figure out
A master at running
The zig zag route
The Lone Ranger’s horse
Is Silver his is Scout

He’s an *** kisser
Who likes his role
Much like a *****
Working on a stroll
Half naked for a trick
To behold
In inclimate weather
But he doesn’t get cold

He’s an *** kisser
A kind of succubus
Brown nosing it
To gain his master’s trust
Whom he looks upon
With pure lust
And so his legacy
Is turning into dust

ON THE CHANCE THAT YOU CARE
Cedric McClester Jan 2017
By: Cedric McClester

His insanity borders on
The executive orders
Signed by his tiny hands
Listing demands
Like repeal and replace
But in any case
On the chance that you care
It’s simply not fair

So what have we got
And what have we not
Ya see for a fact
Jobs aren’t coming back
Just because he threatens
He don’t have the weapons
To change history’s course
With language or force

On the chance that you care
Or might be aware
Of the global warming
Our planet’s performing
Due to man’s neglect
He says what the heck
We need to be drilling
Though it's us that we’re killing

Though all hope may be gone
Some still cheer him on
Without rhyme or reason
It’s the silly season
And after everything’s taken
That’s when they’ll awaken
And they’ll redirect their hate
A little too late

THE FAMILY
Cedric McClester Oct 2016
The family is on shaky ground
When fathers do not stick around
And mothers have no time to spare
For babies who are in their care
When marriages don't run their course
Before the parties seek divorce
And children are left on their own
To run the streets and freely roam

Who's gonna take
The time or care
To bring the family
Back to where
It used to be
Way back when
Women were women
And men were men

The family is a by-gone term
Today too many men just drop *****
And not give it a second thought
About the chances they'll get caught
The mother is left to hold the bag
And even though that is a drag
It's family courts and concrete jungles
Cause that's the way the cookie crumbles

Who's gonna take
The time or care
To bring the family
Back to where
It used to be
Way back when
Women were women
And men were men

Who will step up to the plate
The time is now
It's getting late
It's really up to you and me
To shoulder our responsibility

The family is in mortal danger
When father is a word for stranger
And mothers just want to get high
To help the time fly on by
And what about the consequences
Y'all know that it's all so senseless
And even though we know that's true
The question is what will we do

Who's gonna take
The time or care
To bring the family
Back to where
It used to be
Way back when
Women were women
And men were men

THE SAUDI CROWN PRINCE
Cedric McClester Oct 2018
By: Cedric McClester

Pardon me,
For being abrupt
The Saudi Crown Prince
Is so corrupt
That he ordered a reporter
Be chopped-up
In his embassy in Turkey
Which he covered-up

Muhammad bin Salman
Is a piece of work
But he knows how,
And whose chain to ****
The President supports him
Because he gets a perk
And corruption for both of them
Is a common quirk

Such is the arrogance
That the Prince displayed
Because he thinks the world
Will swallow his Kool Aid
He’s gonna have to lie in
The bed he’s made
And pray his ascendance to the thrown
Can be saved

The Saudis need to be
Taught a strong lesson
But this will blow over
Jared Kushner’s guessing
Because MSB and him
Think adolescent
And both of them
Have their elder’s blessing

"OH, HELL NO! HE WROTE"
Cedric McClester Mar 2018
By: Cedric McClester

“Oh hell no! he wrote,”
How’d we lose that vote.
And what’s the antidote?
Someone please take note
We can’t let this float
Like a tight garrote
The words stick in my throat

Now he’s the President
I guess that’s what’s meant
By votes have consequence?
Although it makes no sense
Can we be that dense
Don’t keep me in suspense
What’s our recompense?
Now or future tense

There’s no mystery
Even the blind can see
Just look at history
When there’s no consistory
It’s been quite blistery
Without a benedictory
There’s need for inquiry
For those on the periphery?

Let’s fold our hands and pray
For a brighter day
God’s work is still at play
Everything will be okay
No matter come what may
I don’t care what you say
Hold your doubt at bay
This day and every day

LIPLESS, COLORLESS SAVAGE
Cedric McClester Jun 2018
By: Cedric McClester

Corey Lewandowski is your average
Lipless colorless savage
Who’s out to make some cabbage
Like that old familiar adage
As long as his contract is renewed
He doesn’t care who gets *******
Whether it’s an austistic six year old
I’m telling you that man is cold

And he’s so far up the ****
Of his mentor Donald Trump
That even on the campaign stump
All Trump had to say is jump
For him to never question why?
All he asked is, “Boss how high?”
And when Trump told him, ‘You’re fired!”
Even then he never tired

Now he’s on the TV screen
To be succinct, he’s obscene
Though Trump thinks he’s peachy keen
Even though he has no spleen
He’ll say whatever Trump finds pleasing
In or out of the campaign season
And he never has to have a reason
To double down on those he’s teasing

He has the public misdirected
With talk about who infected
The unfair system that he erected
The same one most of us rejected
See Lewandowski goes along
With no concept of right or wrong
Like a quisling
Caught up In the throng

SOME
Cedric McClester Oct 2015
By: Cedric McClester

Some hope for the best
But wind up with much less
Cos often they regress
Making it no contest
And others might assume
It ‘s all gloom and doom
Which doesn’t leave much room
For the optimist to bloom

Some sound the retreat
Because they can’t compete
And consider themselves beat
Before they meet defeat
Whether wrong or right
Others will mount a fight
In the hope that they might
See victory in sight

Some lack the sheer will
To stand their ground until
They complete the drill
For them it’s all uphill
Others embrace a task
Whenever they’re asked
In challenges they bask
Cos it’s within their grasp

Some will acquiesces
Before trying their best
As you’ve probably guessed
They want to convalesce
Others wear their battle gear
With the strength to persevere
They think victory’s near
And they put aside their fear

I don’t know his heart
Or exactly
Where to start
But I know
Even you’ll admit
That he does racist ****
So what you see, is ex-act-ly
What you get

I don’t know
What he’s thinkin’
Or the brand of liquor
He must be drinkin’
I just know
What he does
Is racist like
And it always was

I don’t know
His mind
But I betcha
That you’ll find
If you’re not
Deaf, dumb or blind
He is of
The racist kind

I don’t know
What he meant
But I do know
His intent
See he has
A racist bent
And he just
Will not relent

WHAT IF THEY WERE WHITE?
Cedric McClester Mar 2018
By: Cedric McClester

Liberians are being forced
To return to Liberia
No need for any of us
To get uptight
The turmoil that existed
Is now nowhere in sight
But I can’t help but wonder
What if they were white?

Would he be resending
What gave them the right
To come here to America
Once they had taken flight
From the civil war and carnage
That gave them the fright
The question still remains
What if they were white?

He’d like nothing better
Than to whiten up the nation
See that’s the thing that fuels
His views on immigration
While people who happen
To have darker skin
Will have a harder time
Trying to get in

Is it racism in reverse
That undergirds the slogan
America First?
So does that mean that all others
Are destined to be cursed?
In this Orange Man’s
Alternative universe
It’s as clear as day from night
And that is why I ask, What if we were white?

LIKE STINK ON SHIT
Cedric McClester Sep 2019
Because By: Cedric McClester

Like stink on ****
Or a baby on a ***
What I also get
Is he refuses to quit
Because he won’t admit
That he’s not fit
Not one bit
Until his *** gets lit

Like stink on ****
Or a baby on a ***
Butter on a biscuit
A cut of beef as in brisket
We know that he’ll risk it
By relying on his wit
But that will not acquit
Him from the time he’s  gonna get

Like stink on ****
Or a baby on a ***
The accent on a Brit
What you see is what you get
It’s a comedy skit
The swamp and the pit
Unfortunately both fit
See he ain’t worth spit

Like stink on ****
Or a baby on a ***
A joint that’s lit
He’s as high as it gets
But he has tweet fits
And a thing for glitz
See he’s gonna get blitzed
Because of his trysts

IF THESE WALLS COULD TALK
Cedric McClester Jul 2019
By: Cedric McClester

If these walls could talk
What a tale they would tell
About all of the denizens
Of the Chelsea Hotel
The singers of song
Who lived there for a while
And the transient types
With quite a different profile

The sheets on the beds
Left undone for the maids
And the sun that was blocked
By the closed window shades
While illicit things went on
That the law forbade
With the needle still in arm
Some were found where they laid

Others drank or smoked ****
Into the wee hours of the night
Vociferously claiming
That it helped them to write
The songs they were known for
To their fans delight
And some just got drunk
And slept through to daylight

If these walls could talk
What a tale they would tell
For some it was heaven
And for others it was hell
But all were attracted
As if caught in a spell
That’s why the checked into
The Chelsea Hotel

THREE DAYS LATER
Cedric McClester Aug 2017
By: Cedric McClester

There was a time
They wore a hood
To hide their face
That’s understood
But now-a-days
We wish they would
Put out their torches
And fire wood

They always sought
Hegemony
Over people
Who look like me
And even though
That well may be
We’re still here
As they can see

Three days later
He responded
To Charlottesville
But appeared despondent
Which of course
Corresponded
With the public’s outrage
That he hadn’t done it

So he said precisely what
Somebody wrote
With all the right words
And I’ve taken note
But the reason that doesn’t
Float my boat
He began his remarks
After pausing to gloat

FROM OBSERVATION
Cedric McClester Sep 2016
By: Cedric McClester

From observation
Something is wrong
Relationships today
Don’t last as long
Commitments aren’t
Binding or as strong
As they once were
People move on

I’m just curious
So I thought I’d ask
Is monogamy
A thing of the past
Relationships today
Don’t seem to last
In my opinion
They end too fast

There are reasons
For this phenomenon
So I thought that I
Would try to list some
Like people who cheat
And then play dumb
Or people who lie
Leaving you numb

I’m just curious
So I thought I’d ask
Is monogamy
A thing of the past
Relationships today
Don’t seem to last
In my opinion
They end too fast

Why can’t we commit
And make that it
Which is not happening
From where I sit
How come some people
Want to explore
But the question that arises
Is what for

If you have someone
Better hold on tight
And do all you can
To treat ‘em right
Forget about the mysteries
Of the night
If the offer you an apple
Don’t take a bite

I’m just curious
So I thought I’d ask
Is monogamy
A thing of the past
Relationships today
Don’t seem to last
In my opinion
They end too fast

WHY SHE SANG HIS SONG?
Cedric McClester Jul 2019
By: Cedric McClester

Though she didn’t get
The essence wrong
He couldn’t help but to wonder
Why she sang his song
Some of the words
Were artfully rearranged
Or simply misplaced
Like a bunch of small change

Why would anyone want
To sing my song, but me?
Was the question he asked himself
Because he couldn’t see
How come so much interest
From the two or three
Who chose to record it
On vinyl or CD

Not that their versions
Were even half bad
They sang on key
Which made him mad
Because he couldn’t do it
And that’s quite sad
When you’re a balladeer
Who created a sing-song fad

It’s not about his singing
It’s his mastery of words
That developed his reputation
And gave birth to the Byrds
The depth of meaning
Always undergirds
The songs that he’s written
And the pots that he stirred

THEY PROMISED
Cedric McClester Mar 2017
By; Cedric McClester

They say that they promised
As the reason why
Millions of us
Will now have to die
From repeal and replace
Which is a far cry
From what we had
And they cannot deny

What they’re now trying
To ram down our throat
Really isn’t better’
It’s just a new coat
Of paint on a ship
That never could float
Now all but the rich
Will be on the same boat

Of course I ‘m in favor of
Single payer
Despite opposition
From the naysayers
Cos we’re in position
To be a key players
In healthcare for all
Despite the delayers

We’re the richest country
In the whole world
And it’s beyond high time
That a plan is unfurled
I don’t see why
It makes them so uptight
To admit that healthcare
Should be a human right

You say you want diversity

At your elite university

But your thirst for tuition

Places you in an awkward position

Because when your recruiter makes a call

Wealth will usually trump it all

And most likely it’s exclusive

Or should I say, non-inclusive?

So admission tends to be

Limited to the same folks I always see

In the line ahead of me

And, you won’t let me in for free

So never mind Affirmative Action

Which has undergone some redactions

Because of the adverse reactions

Of those expressing their dissatisfactions

It’s not a matter of superior intellect

As some of you might suspect

It’s the turf that you seek to protect

Like the monuments you *****

Attempts to level the playing field

Lack the same kind of appeal

I’m just trying to keep it real

But, you already know the deal

Despite how it makes me feel

And it’s not like we’re not driven

How many years of free labor have we given

You’re surprised that we’re still living

Or, that the past is not forgiven

But after all is said and done

The sins of the father will visit the son

So if you happen to be the one

Are my chances still slim to none?

ARE YOU ASKING ME?
Cedric McClester Nov 2016
By: Cedric McClester

Are you asking me
If I like what I see?
Thus far it’s a mess
So what is your guess
And the signal he sends
Quite truthfully depends
On one’s point of view
And what he’s prepared to do

Do you want to know
In what direction we will go
After things settle down
Will he be proven to be sound
In judgment or in mind
Once it all starts to unwind
In case you’re asking me
We’re gonna have to wait and see

Are you curious?
Or is it a matter of trust
Should we give him enough rope
To hang himself then hope
That it works out in the end
What’s your opinion friend?
It’s too hard for me to measure
So tell me what’s your pleasure

Well maybe it’s just me
But I can’t read the tea
So I won’t speculate
Whether or not it’s hate
Though it makes perfect sense
That things come out in the rinse
And we all will know in time
What might be the  paradigm

HE DOESN'T READ BOOKS
Cedric McClester Jan 2017
By: Cedric McClester

He doesn’t read books
Or take second looks
Before he sinks his hooks
Into the stews he over cooks
So let me get this off my chess
If I had to take a guess
What he deems a great success
Is considerably much less

And let’s not forget
That he trolls the internet
Then places his bet
Based on misinformation - yet
He touts it like it’s gospel
Even though that is quite awful
Sometimes not even lawful
Because rarely is he thoughtful

He doesn’t take advice
Or think about it twice
Instead he rolls the dice
For us to pay the price
And pay the price we will
For the freedoms he will ****
Clearly he just needs to chill
But I doubt he ever will

He’s a creature of TV
That they’ve dubbed “reality”
But how could that be
When it’s foolishness ya see
Look who he’s surrounded by
It’s enough to make you cry
That they promote a lie
Then make it an alibi

What do you do with the news
Of a malady that you didn’t choose
Do you lock yourself up with the blues
Or go out and buy a new pair of shoes
You’re positive or so you’re told
News of that makes your blood run cold
Suddenly you’re feeling so old
Like a future that somebody stole

What do you do with the news
Do you deny it and then refuse
To accept a past that you abused
Now that you’re battered and bruised
Or do you just go on with your life
And confront the toil and strife
Even though it can cut like a knife
It's the fate of men and mice

What do you do with the news
That can often leave you confused
Even thought you’re not bemused
Accept the verdict as accused

What do you do with the news
That little can ever defuse
Explanations are just an excuse
Guess ya have to call some kind of truce
Even if you’ve cooked your goose
Strike a pose and then cut loose
Slip your head right out of that noose
You could hang but what would be the use

What do you do with the news
Do you deny it and then refuse
To accept a past that you abused
Now that you’re battered and bruised
Or do you just go on with your life
And confront the toil and strife
Even though it can cut like a knife
It's the fate of men and mice

AW, HE'S JUST BEING HIM!
Cedric McClester Oct 2019
By: Cedric McClester

Aw, he’s just being him!
He’s a creature of whim
But the diagnosis is grim
So he’ll either sink or swim
In a swamp of his own making
With the laws that he’s breaking
Don’t ask me what’s shaking
Just because I’m muckraking

Aw, he’s just being him!
If he’s chasing some trim
Exchanging letters with  Kim
Or, avoiding a gym
But he must be insane
Holding back from Ukraine
To cause an opponent pain
In a political vain

Aw, he’s just being him!
And this is just the prelim
Though impeachment is no  pseudonym
For convicting him
But it’s a show and prove
When you want to remove
Xcretement from your shoe
It’s what we have to do

Aw, he’s just being him!
So the fault must be with them
Cause they’re worse than phlegm
So we must condemn
What they do or say
In a negative way
Then pretend it’s okay
Both night and day

HE’S LIKE, REALLY SMART!
Cedric McClester Jan 2018
By: Cedric  McCleter

He’s like, really smart
In a dumb sort of way
And that becomes more apparent
Each and every day
Check out his tweets
Or the things he has to say
Which only goes to show
The man is not okay

He’s like, really smart
In a dumb sort of way
Even though that’s not
What those who know him have to say
Cos his intellengence
Is rarely brought into play
As he barrels in
To any kind of fray

He’s like, really smart
In a dumb sort of way
If we were to take a vote
The nays outweigh the yeas
A sad and sordid fact
So the impression stays
And despite all that he’s said
He’s no friend of the gays

He’s like, really smart
In a dumb sort of way
Early morning tweets
Are his way of making hay
But they just put his ignorance
More clearly on display
Which he cannot deny
Nor ever take away

PRODIGAL SON
Cedric McClester Sep 2018
By: Cedric McClester

Kanye West is
Is like the prodigal son
Who ran away from home
And stayed on the run
I’ve lost count of what
He’s.said and done
And the hat he wears
Is worst than a bad pun

I think about all of those
That he’s offended
He says the 13th Amendment
Needs to be rescinded
The one that caused slavery
To be upended
Does he really want slavery,
To be extended?

I know he thinks
That slavery was a choice
Because that’s the same notion
That he lent his voice
Causing all his enemies
To rejoice
As he rides around Hollywood
In a new Rolls Royce

Kanye clearly is
A **** disgrace
And if given the chance
I’d say it to his face
I know he’s bi-polar
And that being the case
The stupid things he says
Should never be embraced

UNCLE CLARENCE

By: Cedric McClester

Between Uncle Clarence and
Wife Jenny
Integrity they haven’t
Any
But nerve they have
A plenty
See neither one of them
Are worth a penny

Between Uncle Clarence and
His errant spouse
Which one is running
Their house?
And  who’s quiet
As a church mouse?
The same one who’ll
Never grouse

Between Uncle Clarence
And his wedded mate
There’s a bond of love
And lot of self-hate
That’s easy to
Calculate
By the one who carries
The most weight

Between Uncle Clarence
And his beloved
It had long ago been
Discovered
That one of ‘em was
Totally smothered
Underneath the dark wings of
A buzzard.

LAST OF THE MOHEGANS
Cedric McClester Aug 2018
By: Cedric McClester

We’re the last of the Mohegans
Here’s the reason why
Everybody else
Has passed us by
Once we thought that we
Would never die
In our sandbox years
Death didn’t apply

We’re the last of the Mohegans
You and I
But one day we too
Are gonna die
And others will be left
To question why
It’’s a universal law
None can deny

We’re the last of the Mohegans
Left here today
All of our friends
Have passed away
From various causes
So it’s hard to say
Who’s gonna be next
On what hour or day

We’re the last of the Mohegans
Left around
Most of our friends
Are at rest underground
But that’s God’s will
Sad as it may sound
And we hope that they’re all
Heaven bound
