PEOPLE DON'T WANT THE TRUTH
Cedric McClester Mar 2016
By: Cedric McClester

People don’t seem
To want the truth
Even when you offer ‘em
The naked proof
They’d much more prefer
To believe in the lie
That’s told as a convenience
Or an alibi

People wanna believe
He’s gonna build a wall
That is far and wide
And also very tall
To keep the people out
Who are at their beck and call
But I don’t think he’s gonna
Build that wall at all

He says he’ll undue
Every single word
Of Obama Care
Although that’s absurd
People need their healthcare
Maybe he hasn’t heard
Because he’s so tone deaf
It’s never occurred

They wanna believe
In free education
It’s easier to conceive
Than to sell to the nation
Yet crowds everywhere
Give him ovations
But I know what he says
Will take a lot of patience

BABYLON HATH FALLEN
Cedric McClester Jul 2019
By: Cedric McClester

Babylon hath fallen
Said the crier to the town
And all the graven images
Lie broken on the ground
So eat drink and arise ye princes
At the trumpet’s sound
And gather ye in the houses
Where salvation is found

For thus hath the Lord
Sayeth onto me
Gather up the scribes
To record what they see
If evil’s in the land
Thou can’t just let it be
If your claim to fame
Is that you worship Me

Behold the man who insists
That he holds no blame
For the evil that he does
In his country’s name
He makes the children suffer
Just because they came
To this land of promise
That isn’t quite the same

Beware that your silence
Also makes a sound
When good people do nothing
They too are hell bound
Like someone who demands the flesh
Of others by the pound
One day they’ll lie prostrate
Trembling on the ground

EASY TO ASSAIL
Cedric McClester May 2022
By: Cedric McClester, Copyright © 2022.

It’s not that he’s
So easy to assail
But Donald Trump needs to be
Perp- walked to jail
Where his thin orange  skin
Can suddenly turn pale
And his lifestyle can suddenly
Begin to fail

Impeachable charges
Lodged against him twice
But his Republican supporters
Wouldn’t roll the dice
This was upon
Mitch McConnel’s advice
Because on the head of his party
It wouldn’t look nice

So twice Trump was able
To dodge a bullet
Cause no one had the courage
To even pull it
And you and i must admit
Nothing about him suggests he will quit
But when the Marshals arrest him
He’ll have to submit

Just imagine
Him doing time
In a six by ten cell
For an assortment of crime
Then life would have a reason
As well as a rhyme
Like it always has
In the annals of time

OUR PAST IS OUR FUTURE
Cedric McClester Dec 2015
By: Cedric McClester

Our past is our future
Care to take a peek
There’s a mass shooting
Every single week
It’s good that earth's inheritors
Will one day be the meek
Cuz when it comes to gun violence
We’re on a non-stop streak

We haven’t learn the lessons
Of gun  history
So why this keeps on happening
Is no mystery
Bringing about an end to it
Is what we’d like to see
But the political climate
Suggest they'll leave it be

Acting as if there is nothing
We can possibly do
Condemns us to a present
Like the past that we’ve lived through
That’s if we weren’t the victims
Like other folks we knew
Who succumbed to their wounds
As is so often true

How many times
Are we gonna be remiss
Before we find something
To cross off the long  list
Like background checks
Or how about we insist
That gun purchases be registered
Instead of just dismissed

WOMEN OF AMERICA
Cedric McClester Sep 2018
By: Cedric McClester

Women of America
Where you at?
Are you gonna let it
Go down like that?
Demand she gets
The fair hearing that she deserves
With an investigation
So she can calm her nerves

Women of America
What’s it gonna take
For you to get fed up
And finally break
You see what they’re doing
For heaven’s sake
Throwin’ another woman
In the lake

Women of America
Time to take a stand
It’s a Me Too moment
So strike up the band
Women everywhere
Throughout this land
If they stick together
Have the upper hand

Women of America
Are you awoke
It’s past time for you
To go for broke
Don’t let those men
Treat you like a joke
Gather up your courage
And please don’t choke

Perhaps she just got
Too excited
Then said, “Finally
a great wrong got righted.”
Because the news
Made her delighted
Now ever since
She’s been slighted

‘Been talked about
On social media
She’s even cited
On Wikipedia
As often happens
When your mouth
Has defeated ya
And a negative response
Is what has greeted ya

Some think the clapback
Was too hard
For a person with the
Stature of a Phylicia Rashad
Since they’ve pulled
The “Me too” card
It’s as if she were
The Marquisa De Sade

Now she’s backtracked
And opened up her eyes
And to one and all
She’s apologized
Because of how
She’s been criticized
And even by some
She’s now despised

NONE OF US KNOWS
Cedric McClester May 2016
By: Cedric McClester

None of us knows
How much time is left
Before someone announces
Our own death
So spend each second
Like it was your last breath
And I just had to
Get that off my chest

I’m no merchant
Of impending doom
But we’ll all die one day
I must assume
Based on the evidence
We can presume
That doesn’t leave us
Too much room

So live each day
As if it was your last
Cuz time goes by
And people die so fast
It’s not that difficult
For us to forecast
Each of us
Fall into that typecast

You can’t take it with you
That’s a fact
No matter how you see
Some folks act
And this concept isn’t really
That abstract
When you examine it
For it’s impact

IT’S NOT ABOUT RELIGION
Cedric McClester Jan 2017
By; Cedric McClester

It’s not about religion
But I must say
It’s of interest to me
How you pray
Do you face a qibla
Or the cross let’s say
Do you pray once in a while
Or five times a day

It’s not about religion
But it looks that way
Which is how it is interpreted
No matter what you say
Or why are certain countries
Brought into play
But countries where they came from
Are not, okay?

It’s not about religion
But Muslims are demonized
And the ugly head of racism
Has been reprised
Yet racism is racism
Under any guise
And that just shouldn’t be
Word to the wise

It’s not about religion
But that’s a lie
Despite what else is said
It’s just an alibi
Just look at what they’re doing
And it’s no wonder why
The law of retribution
Will one day apply

HOLD ON A MOMENT
Cedric McClester Dec 2015
By: Cedric McClester

Hold on a moment
Let’s take a look
At all that’s happened
Since Sandy Hook
There’s been enough carnage
To write a book
But not enough
For us to get shook

The gun-maker
Big four
Have raked in dollars
Like there was a war
Six hundred plus million
Is hard to ignore
And their balance sheets
Have gone up for sure

Their sales go up
After every tragedy
They have no conscience
And that’s plain to see
But why we tolerate them
Is the real mystery
Because we don’t have to
And that should be key

When will they be
Held accountable
For all the triggers
That those murderers pull
Over whose eyes
Have they pulled the wool
And when will we all
Have a stomach full

EMPTY WORDS OF SYMPATHY
Cedric McClester Feb 2018
By: Cedric McClester

I don’t want
His empty words of sympathy
Or for that matter
His empathy
They’re meaningless
Don’t cha see
If a stonger follow up
Is not to be

I don’t want
Him just to visit me
To express his condolences
Cuz words are free
Doing something
Would be key
Besides blaming it
On insanity

So where the hell
Has he been
He was forced
Just to weight in
On a matter that
Should have been
Devoid of spin
But then it wasn’t his next of kin

Sometimes I wonder
What’s the use
For a president
He’s a poor excuse
He should be thrown out
With the rest of the refuse
Because he's garbage
I’m forced to deduce

He’s just a clown
In the bullfight
Who rarely gets
Things right
His statements are shared
To give us insight
But are subject to change
Almost overnight

He’s often billed
As the President’s lawyer
Or as the buffoon
Who’s an alibi destroyer
He’s often corrected
By his employer
Who lies as much
As a Tom Sawyer

Clearly the man is
A spotlight *****
Or better put
The President’s flunky
Who frequently gets
Like an ***** grinder’s monkey
A tad too cute
And a little bit spunky

He’s just a clown
In the bullfight
Or a convenient
Distraction
Who likes the arena
As well as the action
But as painful
As a tooth abstraction

FOR DUES ALREADY PAID
Cedric McClester Jan 2017
By: Cedric McClester

For dues already paid
Like in Roe vs Wade
Or moves against segregation
Like Brown vs the Board of Education
He wants to reverse
The progress in our nation
If America is to be great again
Guess we’ll have to have some patience

For dues already paid
And the many tombstones laid
As we struggled to move on
From a time that’s long been gone
We seek nevertheless to go forward
Not to regress
We intend to stand fast
And we’re gonna do our best

For dues already paid
And the progress already made
We have to stay on course
To avoid any remorse
In our efforts to improve
As we increase our gains
The appointments he has made
Contributes to our pains

For dues already paid
Whose memories never fade
Far from our consciousness
We’re hoping for the best
While looking at the worst
He’s telling the whole world
America’s the country
That he places first

Open up your eyes
The seas are rising
As snow caps melt
The polar bears are dying
It’s global warming
And there’s no denying
That we’re responsible
Now am I lying

That’s the way things are
But does it have to be
We’re the captains
Of our own destiny
If we try
We can change the things we see

On the streets of Chicago
They’ve become unhinged
They’re killing little babies
Then calling it revenge
And the guilty parties
Don’t even have a tinge
Of sorrowful remorse
For their murderous binge

That’s the way things are
But does it have to be
We’re the captains
Of our own destiny
If we try
We can change the things we see

The future isn’t promised
But it lies in our hands
Are we gonna do
All that it demands

And if you’ve been listening
To the body politic
It’s enough to make you *****
And otherwise get sick
They’re playing the dozens
Instead of throwing bricks
But everybody’s busy
Tryin’ to get in their own licks

That’s the way things are
But does it have to be
We’re the captains
Of our own destiny
If we try
We can change the things we see

THINGS WE DON'T EXPRESS
Cedric McClester Jan 2016
By: Cedric McClester

How can we address
Things we don’t express
And think nevertheless
They will be redressed
Why should we assume
In a smokeless back room
Talk will then resume
As to how to close the wound

****** has returned
Because we haven’t learned
But now look who’s concerned
Now that the table’s turned
It’s creating quite a scare
Because it’s everywhere
In the suburbs they’re in prayer
Over who the Lord should spare

Go to college
Then go broke
And that’s not just a joke
There’s no mirrors or no smoke
It’s a sad reality
And I’m sure you would agree
Much to the banker’s glee
It’s affected you and me

Now there is no middle class
It’s regulated to our past
See it vanished much too fast
It’s either rich or poor by contrast
When conservative do what they does
Nothing stays the way it was
And perhaps that’s just becuz
They’ve put the past on pause

KARMA WILL NOT BE DENIED
Cedric McClester Feb 2016
By: Cedric McClester

You’re in for
A bumpy ride
You can run
Or you can hide
But the law of equality
Will be applied
And karma will
Not be denied

What you do
Inevitably
Comes back to you
Unquestionably
Give it some time
And you will see
The unveiling of
The mystery

Now here’s
The thing of it
What you give
You get
Time will pay
The debt
So you
Should not forget

This is
A general rule
For the knave
Or fool
Karma takes
Us to school
And often
Can be cruel

BENEATH THE SURFACE
Cedric McClester Mar 2016
By: Cedric McClester

There’s more beneath the surface
Than there appears to be
And we’re working at cross-purposes
If we fail to see
Some secrets really hurt us
And while that well may be
What we need to do to unravel ‘em
Remains the mystery

The company asserts the right
To have it’s privacy
The government gets uptight
And says while that well may be
We need you to break the code
So we can look and see
What’s encrypted on that phone
So please give us the key

We’re trying to do our very best
To fill in the blanks
But we need your help nevertheless
And you’re telling us no thanks
It’s a mater of extreme importance
You see your nation banks
On discovering the information therein
And now we’re closing ranks

We’ll take it all the way if we havta
Straight to the Supreme Court
We’re trying to avoid a future disaster
Like the deceased terrorist wrought
So we’re humbly asking you to do this
But you’re saying you’re not
Your right to free speech is acknowledge
Though your cooperation’s sought

TEARS FROM THE AGES
Cedric McClester Jun 2015
By: Cedric McClester

These are tears from the ages
As we turn our history’s pages
Certain parts have been outrageous
Like when they enslaved and caged us
Now they ask why all the fuss
Though the confederacy went bust
As we always knew it must
They say that flag just honors us

But where’s the honor in enslavement
In human suffering and containment
Why not ask us where the pain went
Which might explain our discontent
Even though some will insist
That their supporters must resist
Because that flag will sure be missed
See I don’t think they get our gist

That flag serves to summarize
An era that we do despise
So if the Golden Rule applies
Take it down, word to the wise
Tell me if you could celebrate
Another’s hegemony or hate
While your freedom had to wait
Is it even open to debate

Want to romanticize your past?
I find it necessary to ask
Like the Germans and their gas
I will put you on full blast
Because there is no master race
Everybody has their place
And I hope I’ve made my case
That the past can’t be erased

The impeachment of this president
Is what is known as karma
Because the American public
Finally grew tired of all his drama
They long for the bygone yesteryear
When things were much more calmer
Although when he wants to
He can readily be a charmer

The impeachment of this president
Is clearly what is called for
Because we the Amerocan public
Can hardly take much more
And there are people like me
Who have taken into account
The volume of the accusations
Right down to the full amount

The impeachment of this president
Is a very serious matter
Even if you choose to put aside
All of the chitter chatter
But it seems that’s what’s called for
Under these circumstances
And the Whistleblower’s allegations
Only serves to advance this

The impeachment of this president
Falls within the Constitution
Unlike climate change
Or the attendant air pollution
He can’t throw a rock
Then try to hide his hand
Now he must take stock
‘Cuz everyone is not a fan

The biggest drug pusher
That there ever was
Never did half the things
That Big Pharma does
But they get away with it
Primarily becuz
Of the billions they make
For their chest of drawers

The biggest drug pushers
Don’ t live in the hood
But they]re the ones
That get locked up for good
But they’re not the ones
Who ultimately should
When the disparity
Is fully understood

The biggest drug pushers
Wear white lab coats
And often are seen
Tacking copious notes
To justify the opioids
That their scrips conote
That we see them issuing
Out like by rote

The biggest drug pushers
Seem to get away
None have been sentenced
To a prison stay
They’ve been successful
At keeping at bay
Law enforcement
To this very day

BRING THAT FLAG DOWN
Cedric McClester Oct 2015
By: Cedric McClester

Though some don’t like
To hear the sound
Of black people saying
Bring that flag down
For them it represents
A gone-by era
For black people
Nothing but shear terror

It celebrates
The Confederacy
And all that went on
Before, don't cha see
Like the subjugation
Of black human beings
Placed in slavery
By white Europeans

That flag is awash in the dried blood
Of African people
Who rose above
Torture and lynching
And other terrible things
Not yet mentioned
Tell me what must I do
To get your attention

Isn’t it time
That the flag was retired
Considering the ****** history
That it has inspired
How can anyone
Still take pride
In the things I’ve mentioned
That can’t be denied?

DOWN THE SAME ROUTE
Cedric McClester Apr 2015
By: Cedric McClester

As things return back to the norm
And we all vow to seek reform
We experience the quiet after the storm
Which makes us feel secure and warm
How can we expect different results
When we haven’t learned the ins and outs
Of the social conditions that brings about
Us traveling down the same route

Insanity I’ve heard people say
Is repeating your mistakes the same old way
And expecting the results to be different okay
Doing the same old **** on a different day
History exists so we can learn
If the pages of the books ever get turned
Then our present and our future wouldn’t be burned
Are we stuck in the communities that we’ve earned

This is not just criticism it’s introspection
Cos I feel that we’re headed in the wrong direction
And we’re in need of an immediate correction
Not for their benefit, but for our own protection
More than one road may lead to Rome
But we can’t fiddle while we lose all we own
Where we gonna live, in the Twilight Zone
After all the Molotof Cocktails get thrown

I’m not a sociologist merely a pundit
But the evidence that I cite is abundant
And I’m saying this at the risk of being redundant
I can hear you hiss knowing that this might be repugnant
If it serves a purpose and that purpose is to provoke
Then perhaps at last we can remove the yoke
Of abandoned all civility of going for broke
Once everything settles including the smoke

THE ENEMY OF THE PEOPLE
Cedric McClester Feb 2017
By: Cedric McClester

Is the enemy of the people
A free press?
Or is it someone
You might not have guessed
Like a person
Who nevertheless
Is defined by
His acts of excess

Is the enemy of the people
A free press
Or a leader
Who lacks largesse
When it comes to
Those he detests
Mexicans, Muslims
And the rest

Is the enemy of the people
A free press
Or the leader
Who’s like an abscess - tooth
But I guess
I digress
Cos I had to get it
Off of my chess

Is the enemy of the people
A free press
Or a faux populist
Of the noblesse
Who promises more
But gives less
And whose childish impulses
Are unsuppressed

DO NOTHIN'?
Cedric McClester Oct 2015
By: Cedric McClester

Instead of people huffin’ and puffin’
Some suggest we do nothin’
Cos “stuff happens,” we need to toughen
And there’s no need for handcuffin’
It’s unfortunate that some folks die
But guns are as American as apple pie
Now some of you might wonder why
Though what I’ve said you can’t deny

It’s not guns it’s the mentally ill
That continues to maim and ****
For the fame or for the thrill
They get off on the blood they spill
If a love of guns is your predilection
And being armed gives you an *******
Cos you’re concerned with your protection
My reply is bullets fly in all directions
So this might call for some introspection

Critics say don’t politicize
They ignore words to the wise
Even though we’ve analyzed
The evidence before our eyes
And they ignore the hurt and sorrow
That could be theirs on any morrow
From history they refuse to borrow
Because their hearts are cold and hollow

Clearly congress has been lax when
They’ve been called to take action
Those who do are just a fraction
Of the whole which is a fact and
This problem will stay with us
Unless we change because we must
Do more than in God we trust
Common sense gun laws or bust

SMELLING SALTS
Cedric McClester Apr 2019
By: Cedric McClester

As I often surmise
I don’t think it is wise
For me to criticize
What I know applies
Israel too has her faults
But we do somersaults
Or apply the schmaltz
Instead of smelling salts

They go through the roof
When we state the truth
Then back it with the proof
A martini needs vermouth!
Should we become myopic,
When Israel is the topic?
Or just be philanthropic?
They really need to stop it

A woman nevertheless
Elected to Congress
Is embroiled in a mess
Cuz she chose to attest
About the Benjamins
As in Franklin friends
Helps Israel reach her ends
See everybody bends

And what’s really pathetic
Is she’s labeled anti-Semitic
But that’s the usual rhetoric
From Zionist confederates
Who can see no wrong
If we just go along
Like Palestinians don’t belong
Long as Israel remains strong

GRACE AND GLORY
Cedric McClester Oct 2016
By: Cedric McClester.

There’s beauty in a rising sun
And beauty when it sets
There’s beauty in the stars at night
That shine like bright baguettes
Those things we tend to take for granted
But none would be on view
If not for your Grace and Glory
It’s all a part of you

I love to see the leaves in autumn
Their colors on display
And the trees looking abandoned
Once their leaves have gone away
But they’ll be back in springtime
As sure as summer rain
If not for your Grace and Glory
How could it be explained

Lord you are the Grace and Glory
That’s constantly on view
All that exists in nature
Is there because of you

I like the changes of the seasons
Winter melting into spring
The soothing warmth of summer mornings
And the cool that autumn brings
I’m awe struck by your Grace and Glory
And all it manifests
No one comes close to you
Not even second best

Lord you are the Grace and Glory
That’s constantly on view
All that exists in nature
Is there because of you

There’s beauty in a rising sun
And beauty when it sets
There’s beauty in the stars at night
That shine like bright baguettes

WHY ME? (WHY ME?)
Cedric McClester Mar 2017
By: Cedric McClester

I have to say why me
While watching the news on tv
And it happens more frequently
Looking at the spokespeople I see
There’s the advisor Kellyanne
Of whom I used to be a big fan
Then there’s that Sean Spicer man
And Steve Miller whom they need to ban

It makes me want to revolt
When I hear them start to emote
Cos they lie about the vote
And give numbers that just won’t float
Butta-boom butta-bing
They lie about everything
And the president is the wellspring
That causes those canaries to sing

It’s fake news if he disagrees
With the reporting that he sees
Which makes him very displeased
And he hates those who eat the cheese
So he’s trying to plug all the leaks
Of which he frequently speaks
And he stays on the topic for weeks
While they continue to wet their beaks

So you understand why I’m tired
And remain so uninspired
When I see the people he’s hired
None are to be admired
Cos they all speak with forked tongues
As they try to climb all the rungs
By using their wits and their lungs
And we wait for what next comes

PLAYING THE RACE CARD
Cedric McClester May 2015
By: Cedric McClester

Is it playing the race card
If the deck is stacked
And everything you state
Is an established fact
Michelle opened up
And almost got wacked
So we weren’t surprised
When she was attacked

Is it playing the race card
When you acknowledge
Certain social realities
Rarely taught in college
Or should all banalities
Suddenly be abolished
Because someone’s ego
Needs to be polished

Is it playing the race card
If you’re in a rut
And the cards you were dealt
Are all that you’ve got
Don’t preface your answer
With the usual but
Causing me to say
Tut tut tut

Is it playing the race card
Though politically incorrect
When it’s the only thing you have
What would you expect
It doesn’t require
A tremendous intellect
If you take pause
To stop and reflect

To identify the dead
And we’ve half mast the flags
Will we face the ***** Low Down
I’m thinking Bozz Scaggs

What you gonna say then
About your right to bare arms
Have you joined the militia
Or succumb to the charms
Or an errant gun lobby
Who don’t give a care
About how many die
As if they’re unaware

Our right to live
Should trump any amendment
Because it’s real basic
And also ascendant
It makes me wonder
Why some are dependant
Upon assault weapons
Like a kind of appendage

When it’s more than about
People some might hate
Or minimalize
Like they’re second rate
I wonder what then
Will be the debate
Around sensible gun laws
See I cannot wait

BETRAYAL
Cedric McClester Oct 2016
By: Cedric McClester

I broke my wedding vows
When I betrayed your trust
Momentary weakness
Is a poor excuse for lust
It led me to adultery
Which I do regret
And I can’t really blame you
For being so upser

I beg you to forgive me
You’re the one I love
I didn’t mean to hurt you
Although I’m guilty of
An act of infidelity
Which is a mortal sin
God knows that I’m sorry
Even though I wasn’t then

I don’t want to lose you
Because of my mistake
And I’m committed to
Do all that it takes
For us to save our marriage
I don’t want to be divorced
That’s why I pray to God
That we can stay the course

For a moment’s pleasure
I could be losing you
And that’s the very last thing
I’d ever want to do
I’m begging please forgive me
Find it in your heart
I just couldn’t stand it
If we break apart

I didn’t want to hurt you
Yet that’s what I did
Lust and raw desire
Is why I got down with
Someone who meant nothing
In the way you do
I was in lust with her
But I’m in love with you

HE'S THE JOKER
Cedric McClester Sep 2019
By: Cedric McClester

Like that Batman character
He’s the Joker
But it’s clear to one and all
He’s no Al Roker
As a weatherman
He’s less than mediocre
And he’s no prognosticator
Of who'll get a soaker

He warned the folks
Who live in Alabama
That Hurricane Dorian
Would no doubt slam her
And he didn’t even
Say it with a stammer
Which caused meteorologista
Everywhere to clamor

The man’s lacking in curiosity
And doesn’t study
Reports that he should see
Like Marvin Gaye, all I can say
Is, “Mercy mercy me.”
He’s the leader of our nation
But, how could that be?
When he’s on vacation permanently

Lying is like
Breathing to him
See he prevaricates
On a mere whim
And the chances that he’ll change
Are none to slim
Because his prognosis has gone
From bad to grim

GIBBERISH
Cedric McClester Mar 2016
By: Cedric McClester

He’s clearly talking ish
But they’re listening
To his gibberish
Raw meat
For the carnivorous
Offering candy sticks
Of licorice
To make ‘em reminisce

You may think
That he’s wack
Try though he might
We won’t go back
That’s not conjecture
It’s a fact
As stark as white
Or black

So many people
Are confused
And taken in
By any ruse
The illiterate at least
Have an excuse
They find it hard
To deduce

Did I plant
A seed of doubt
As to  who
I’m talking ‘bout
It ain’t that hard
To figure out
Though you never know
What he might sprout

ONE DEAD, FIFTEEN WOUNDED
Cedric McClester Mar 2017
By: Cedric McClester

One dead, fifteen wounded
When an argument broke out
But ya might have assumed it
Brown liquor there’s no doubt
At the club they consumed it
Fallen people all about
Because that foredoomed it

‘Woulda thought we had enough
Of people running around
All over town with gats and stuff
Ya know the consequences
Can be more than rough
When you wind up arrested
And being handcuffed

And it’s usually the case
That they can’t shoot straight
Someone’***** in the face
That didn’t participate
Cos’ a stranger had bass
They took the weight
Wrong time, wrong place

This time it happened in Ohio
Cincinnati to be precise
But why oh! why oh!
Couldn’t they have played nice
So no one had to die, though
It's a fool’s advice
They shoulda applied, yo

In the face of terrorism here
The President was perfectly clear
The idea he wanted to share
Is freedom should be stronger than fear
Yet we will remain vigilant
Was the larger message he sent
Because we will not relent
Against enemies who are hell-bent

He indicated it’s not being paranoid
To say they would like us destroyed
But we’ve done our best to avoid
Every tactic that they’ve employed
Yet all of us must do our part
Take Congress, for instance, to start
And once more he had to insist
No guns for the folks on the no-fly list

Though terrorism is a growing disease
He did his best to put us at ease
But he didn’t resort to ******
Though the public is real hard to please
Tough talk for mere attribution
Does nothing towards finding a solution
We shouldn’t change our Constitution
While trying to seek restitution

The answer’s not boots on the ground
Nor him jerking us all around
He admits that the problem’s profound
But our response would probably astound
While nothing can be guaranteed
He refuses to let terror succeed
On that we should all be agreed
But let’s not change our nature or creed

THEIR NOMINEE
Cedric McClester Aug 2015
By: Cedric McClester

Their nominee is a comedy
If you’re asking me
‘Cos how could they be
Serious are they delirious
Minds are curious
And would like to know
How they could stoop that low
Guess it goes to show

If elected president
Then the message sent
Is full of bad intent
We’d be confused not amused
That they would choose
Such a bafoon
A flesh and blood cartoon
I guess we’re at high noon

The competition
Just fueled his ambition
They were so busy *******
In the wind but again
They didn’t get it
Because they were ill fitted
To assume the throne
He occupies alone

But you know what they say
Rome fell in a day
We too could go that way
So let’s elevate the debate
And stop the rhetoric
And labels that won’t stick
Beyond the election
Why not seek perfection

He’s quick to lie
Though his face doesn’t show it
And if he keeps on
He’s sure to blow it
Yet the question remains
That he never explains
What did he know.
And when did he know it?

How in hell
Are we suppose to trust him
When he’s been playing footsie
With people in Russia
And the question remains
That he never explains
What did he know.
And when did he know it?

He can send out
All the spin that he needs to
But we wanna know
Where all of this lead to
So the question remains
That he never explains
What did he know
And when did he know it

The truth will come out
It always does in the end
To assume that it won’t
Is just to pretend
And the question remains
That he never explains
What did he know.
And when did he know it?

I LOVE AMERICA
Cedric McClester May 2021
By: Cedric McClester

I love America
For what it could be
But it’s still racist
As far as I can see
I’m basing my conclusion
On present and past history
Which to say the least
Has been quite blustery

I love America
For it’s promise
But loving her as I do
I have to be honest
That doesn’t mean
That America is flawless
And I’m taking this opportunity
To call this

I love America
Believe me I do
Despite everything
It’s put my people through
I’m optimistic that
It can have a breakthrough
And finally do the things
That it’s supposed to do

I love America
With my heart and soul
But sometimes America
Tends to leave me cold
It’s not the nation
That’s been bought and sold
And its streets have never
Been paved with gold

THEY CALL IT A CIVIL WAR
Cedric McClester Mar 2017
By; Cedric McClester

They call it a civil war
But ain’t nothing civil about it
If you’ve seen people die before
Then you wouldn’t doubt it
Who said victory is sweet
When bombs fall through concrete
And people die right at your feet
It’s impossible to retreat

How can anyone avoid
Post traumatic stress
When nightmares reoccur
From living through that mess
The fact that you’re alive
Says that you are blessed
And life goes on they say
Nevertheless

They call it civil war
But ain’t nothing civil about it
If you’re lucky enough to survive
You’d probably want to shout it
Blood flows in the street
And the carnage just repeats
So the memory never deletes
The muffle sounds of the drum beats

How can anyone avoid
Post traumatic stress
When nightmares reoccur
From living through that mess
The fact that you’re alive
Says that you are blessed
And life goes on they say
Nevertheless

WHAT IF…?
Cedric McClester May 2016
By: Cedric McClester

What If I told you
In advance
That I was about to
Take a chance
And place my hands
Inside your pants’
Would you reject me
Or agree with a glance

See I’m cut
In the Prince mode
Or do you think
I’m just a ***** toad
Who’s only looking to
Release my load
Or simply trying to
Get your goad

What if I had
My way with you
And you did everything
That I told you to
Could we do it
On a church pew
So I can take communion
Inside of you

What if I revealed
My bucket list
And did it to you
Just like this
Would you ask for more
Or would you insist
That I continue doing
What you can’t resist

A WARNING
Cedric McClester Apr 2015
By: Cedric McClester

The hurricane came and then went
With many injured and many lives spent
But were our heads bowed or our knees bent
Did anybody take the time to repent
From sleepin’ beds to wide-awake
We eye-witnessed a mighty earthquake
But did anyone think for heaven’s sake
Could it be comin’ from the mischief we make

We don’t pay attention until we see
Impending doom or a tragedy
And then we cry, "Oh woe is me!"
Which makes it clear who’s in charge ya see

(2nd Verse)
The waters poured down but this time no arc
Was it mere happenstance or just a lark
Why do we find ourselves in the dark
Must a celestial voice say the word, "Hark!"
Before we listen to and heed the warning
Of Armageddon or apocalypse dawning
No need for us to be confused or torn when
These things very well could signal the end

We don’t pay attention until we see
Impending doom or a tragedy
And then we cry oh woe is me
Which makes it clear who’s in charge ya see

How many times must this scene be repeated
Before we understand why it was metered
Even the atheist have been defeated
From thinking that God can be deleted

We don’t pay attention until we see
Impending doom or a tragedy
And then we cry oh woe is me
Which makes it clear who’s in charge ya see

Strongs winds blew until nothing was standing
Objects were blown haphazardly landing
And the people were helplessly demanding
That aid be forthcoming without understanding
There was little help any one could render
Until the winds stopped they’d have to surrender
Regardless of race creed or gender
The righteous, along with the flagrant offender

We don’t pay attention until we see
Impending doom or a tragedy
And then we cry,  "Oh woe is me!"
Which makes it clear who’s in charge ya see

The waters poured down but this time no arc
Was it mere happenstance or just a lark
Why do we find ourselves in the dark
Must a celestial voice say the word hark

If I don’t do it for you baby
Then someone else might maybe
Though I think you oughta know
That I’d hate to see you go
If I don’t satisfy your needs
And someone else succeeds
There’s little else I can say
If you choose to walk away

If I’m no longer what you want
Don’t insinuate or start to taunt
There’s no need to nevertheless
Or even make me have to guess
See you’re all that I’m thinking of
But if you’ve fallen out of love
There’s little else I can say
If you choose to walk away

If you say that our love is done
And I’m no longer the one
See I really don’t have a clue
As to what else I can do
It will hurt like you don’t know
To realize you’re gonna go
But there’s little else I can say
If you choose to walk away

Do we have problems?
That’s for sure!
But, I still love
The city of Baltimore!
From the Inner Harbor
To Cockeysville.
Did I neglect to
Mention Federal Hill?

We’re known as
“A city of neighborhoods”
Where WEB DuBois
Was first understood
And Edgar Allen Poe
Showed that he could
Write a scary novel
That was very good

We’re the same city
Trump chose to malign
But perhaps that’s because
We’re one of a kind
Or maybe that’s because
He lost his mind
It’s either one, or the other
You’ll surely find

We are the city
Faults and all
Where the Baltimore Orioles
Still play baseball
And thousands of immigrants
Heeded the call
When they came to America
Summer, winter or fall

OLD ADAGES
Cedric McClester Nov 2015
By: Cedric McClester

If you are free of sin
Then throw the first stone
But if you are not
Then leave it alone
If you point your finger at someone
As people often do
Don’t forget that three fingers
Are pointing back at you

When the shoe is snugly on
The other person’s foot
Where the onus usually is
More easily put
As opposed to when the shoe
Belongs to you
Then that’s probably something
You won’t want to do

People who live in glass houses
Shouldn’t throw stones
Because the glass might shatter
The window one owns
Look before you leap
Because you cannot know
If there’s any water
Down there below

Once bitten makes you
Two times shy
Chalk it up to experience
As the reason why
"It is better to give
Than to receive,"
Jesus once said
But how many believe?

GHOSTS (MOVING UNSEEN)
Cedric McClester Jan 2016
By: Cedric McClester

It’s a daily struggle
For them to survive
On the streets of the City
They feel barely alive
At times they can’t wait
For death to arrive
With no will to live
They’ve lost their drive

Invisible to most
Just like a ghost
Moving unseen
Through streets so mean
That they’re largely ignored
By all but the Lord
Homeless and lost
Seeking shelter from the frost

The Governor and Mayor
Cannot agree
On a solution for the problem
That both of ‘em see
Advocates for the homeless
Make their usual plea
In spite of the stalemate
Which doesn’t have to be

Invisible to most
Just like a ghost
Moving unseen
Through streets so mean
That they’re largely ignored
By all but the Lord
Homeless and lost
Seeking shelter from the frost

Just look around
Homelessness is growing
It’s everywhere
And it’s clearly showing
If we really care
We have to get going
And try to repair
The ill wind that’s blowing

They’d rather remain
Out in the cold
Than go to a shelter
Like they’ve been told
While it might be compelling
That message is old
Cuz the shelter’s not safe
Nor are they controlled

Invisible to most
Just like a ghost
Moving unseen
Through streets so mean
That they're largely ignored
By all but the Lord
Homeless and lost
Seeking shelter from the frost

It’s a daily struggle
For them to survive
On the streets of the City
They feel barely alive
At times they can’t wait
For death to arrive
With no will to live
They’ve lost their drive

ONE TRAITOR TO ANOTHER
Cedric McClester Apr 2019
By: Cedric McClester

The fact that one traitor
Would celebrate another
Only goes to show
They’re brothers from another mother
So it’s not surprising
That as we now see
Trump thinks we should venerate
Robert E. Lee

A soldier and a gentleman
Who betrayed our republic
Makes Lee a traitor
So while I’m on the subject
Agreeing with Putin
Over our CIA
Makes Trump one too
I don’t care what you say

There are,” very fine people”
On both sides he said
Though one side was wishing
That the other side was dead
Which in fact happened
And I’m sure he read
How it all went down
Before he went to bed

“Russia if you’re listening”
Was his staunch appeal
Give us all those emails
Which they did for real
He’s closer to Russia
Than his next of kin
Which signifies something
Can I get an Amen?

BEFORE HE TAKES A FALL
Cedric McClester Mar 2017
By: Cedric McClester

Revelations about the Kremlin
Has him trembling
From the static
Which might be emblematic
Of the issue that’s at hand
Now that we understand
The clear-cut intersection
Of the Trump Russian connection

We can tell that Sessions lied
When he vehemently denied
Having had a discussion
With a diplomat who’s Russian
During the Trump campaign
And so the fact remains
That after all is done and said
It stinks straight from the head

And before he takes a fall
He will probably stonewall
About the true nature
Of its nomenclature
Claiming outright ignorance
In this and every sense
Seeking full absolution
As the ultimate solution

Calls for his resignation
Can be heard throughout the nation
And let’s not forget
That he was a surrogate
Not simply a senator
Which would cause us to ignore
The role he actually played
So our memory doesn’t fade

Caught up in a desperate race

Or is that just the way it seems

Business man makes a killing
Because his ego needs fulfilling
Investors losing quite unwilling
Is that the nature of the game
Or will we have the same (questions)

Lovers meet then break away
Different partners different day
It really is a shame they say
But does it have to be
And when will we be free of (questions)

A child’s conceived by accident
After the ecstasy is spent
Wonder where the loving went

A LYNCHING?
Cedric McClester Oct 2019
By: Cedric McClester

It’s amazing you’d conflate
A crime borne out of hate
With your present state
You see we can’t relate
Our Constitution does call for
Impeachment to be sure
When we can’t take no more
So a lynching’s not called for

It’s a vile and hatefilledl act
And as a matter of fact
It has its origins back
To the days the whip would crack
On the back of someone’s slave
In this land of the free and brave
As the punishment the master gave
That could take you to your grave

So it doesn’t make much sense
Because of your experience
Which is deserved, and hence
It has you in complete suspense
So I don’t know your intention
But it’s a long way from a lyinching
Though we know it has you flinching
As step by step impeachment is inching

It’s not a coup, lynching or witch hunt
So there’s no need for you to front
And forgive me for being blunt
But you’re acting like a little ****
This is all of your own making
Now that the public has awakened
To the laws that you've been breaking
And so, very soon you’ll be forsaken

The President must be hating
That Flynn’s cooperating
With the Special Prosecutor
Which could render him neuter
Although he now has *****
Watch him as each one falls
They’re coming for Don Junior too
What’s a President to do?

The President must be hatimg
That Mueller caught him waiting
Wondering what the **** to do
Pull the trigger? He has no clue
He’s frightened of the consequences
Cos the third cycle always rinses
And the fact remains
That he’s gone through great pains

The President must be hating
That Manafort is now debating
Whether to turn state’s evidence
He’s going bonkers from the suspense
It’s only now that he can see
That he might be in jeopardy
And he’s too old to do the time
If he has to pay for his crime

The President must be hating
That Pence is probably waiting
To assume the crown
As he watches him come down
“No more trips to Mar-A-Lago,”
Says his personal Iago.
“If he had thought or only known
That I was destined for the throne?”

Sarah sold her body
So  she could get a fix
Though she died a little
Each time she turned a trick
Then one day she vanished
Into the thin air
Just another missing *******
And no one seemed to care
She was not the only one
Who disappeared that way
There were lots of others
According to what they say
Lost among the missing
But what nobody knew
Was the individual agony
That each of them went through
Think of all the Sarahs
Who slip through the cracks
The ones we rarely hear about
Yet are no less of a fact

INCONCLUSIVE
Cedric McClester Mar 2019
By: Cedric McClester

I’m not trying to be
Obtrusive
But the Mueller Report
Was inconclusive
Exoneration wasn’t
Mutually exclusive
So his innocence
Remains deducive

And his old
Familiar song
Is he was right
All along
The prosecution
Had to be wrong
No collusion
Like Cheech and Chong

William Barr reached
His own conclusion
Based on the
Optical illusion
That in fact
There was no collision
By the President
For attribution

Wiliam Barr has
Thrown the first lob
NIow Congress must
Do it’s job
Mueller chose not to prosecute
That slob
So the American public
Was robbed
