BURN THE TOWN DOWN
Cedric McClester Apr 2015
By: Cedric McClester

In an apparent act
Of emotional *******
They burned down the town
Take a look around
Like police were on vacation
Or at a donut shop
Because it didn’t stop
Until the Governor ran out of patience

We can blame the Mayor
For her reticent position
While the provocateurs
Were on their mission
Busting into stores galore
Like they had permission
While home owners crossed their fingers
Hoping and wishing

Burn down the town
Has anybody got a match
See the cloth’s stuffed down
In the gasoline -  catch
Like a perfect plan
Somebody must have hatched
And Mom and Pop
Are headed for a bad patch

It’s the residents who lose
In the very end
And it’s a sad message
That the evil doers send
To everybody else
Who has to live there and
They have no noble cause
So why should we pretend

FORGET THE EPA
Cedric McClester Jan 2017
By: Cedric McClester

Forget the EPA
That’s so yesterday
In time we’ll have to pay
But who cares anyway
They used to work for you and me
But not anymore don’t cha see
We have a President
Who’s hell-bent and won’t repent

Forget the CDC
Looking out for you and me
Cos they are in a rut
With their budget cut
There’s little they can do
To protect me and you
They can’t detect the latest flu
Like they used to do

Forget the DOJ
Who won’t point the way
Towards an enlightened government
Civil rights have all been spent
Now the ACLU’s out of the loop
And the fox oversees the chicken coop
They’ve been set up to fail
And progess is off the rail

Are you listening to me
What about the CPB
There’s no protection anymore
Like we used to have before
If we get ripped off  then so what
Consumer protection we haven’t got
And that’s not what will make us great
Despite the slogan he may state

WHO'S SCARIER?
Cedric McClester Jun 2015
By: Cedric McClester

I don’t know who’s scarier
A person who’s inferior
But pretends he’s superior
Because of his deliria
Or someone who’s intense
Because they are convinced
That it makes perfect sense
To ****** folks and hence

Create a race war
Haven’t we seen this before
Raw hatred at its core
And it's still hard to ignore
How can one be taken in
Treated like an old friend
Hear the Good Book then
Bring nine lives to an end

You see it makes us numb
Wondering where does it come from
Is it just ingrained in some
Or learned by everyone
Why does ignorance persist
I could go right down the list
And I will if you insist
See I’m tired and I’m ******

At people with small minds
You can see the telltale signs
They exist in the confines
Of their puppeteer’s designs
Did they lack their mother’s love
Don’t believe in God above
Never took a bath with Dove
What are they frightened of

HE BEGAN THE CONVERSATION
Cedric McClester Dec 2015
By: Cedric McClester

He began
The conversation
That’s reverberated
Throughout the nation
You see his mouth
Is never vacant
Maybe we’ll
Have to be patient

Hear him
As he rants and shouts
Let’s keep
Mexicans and Muslims out
Because he hasn’t
Any doubt
They’re what terror’s
All about

But what he seems
To have blown
We have terror
That’s homegrown
Which is something
He should have known
As our history
Has clearly shown

But blame it
On the other guy
Then invent a reason why
Logic has to
Up and die
While he invents
Another lie
To give himself
An alibi

When the media packs and leaves
Who among us really believes
That anything will be achieved
If the conditions aren’t relieved
When the focus shifts once again
Will hopelessness suddenly end
Or maybe we should just pretend
We won’t break we’ll only bend

When the nation goes back to sleep
And we don’t hear another peep
Who'll care enough to weep
Other than those in too deep
When the memories have gone away
And we’ve forgotten about Freddie Gray
Because tomorrow's another day
And our anger won’t be on display

What will the end results be
When we’re on to the next tragedy
What does your crystal ball see
Do you care to share it with me
How do you think we’ll recover
If we don’t care for one another
Do we just suffocate and smother
Aren’t we all sisters and brothers

Long after Baltimore grieves
And the media packs up and leaves
Who from the ashes retrieves
A glimmer of hope that relieves
So where do we go from here
When the attention will disappear
Who then will be aware
Or take pause to even care

ESTRANGED FROM US
Cedric McClester Jan 2021
By: Cedric McClester

He’s estranged from us
He’s desperate and he’s dangerous
And he’s very strange to us
As we fight for the change we must
Had he done what was required
He might have been rehired
And even been admired
For the vaccine he inspired

He’s estranged from us
And not the kind that instills trust
Cuz he engenders our disgust
And he’s too quick to combust
He’s not the man that he used to be
So he’s been fired unceremoniously
At last we the people are finally free
Of his unique brand of skullduggery

He’s estranged from us
Consequently he’s been left in the dust
By a man that people really can trust
As previously discussed
Don’t kick a dog when he’s down
But hisf breed need to be in the ground
And I’m well aware how this may sound
Cuz the truth is commodity that’s rarely found

He’s estranged from us
Cuz he’s the god in which he trusts
Who’s so full of himself that he might bust
Or be trampled on like old sawdust
Pretty soon he will be gone
Heartbroken and also forlorn
Cuz he hasn’t upheld the oath he’s sworn
And tomorrow represents a brand new dawn

Just because you’re there
Doesn’t mean you’re able
To change a single mind
At your master’s table
You may believe you can
But let me share with you a fable
Though they were blood brothers
Cane still slew Abel

Just because you’re there
Sitting in the room
Doesn’t mean you have the right
To summarily assume
That you can make a difference
Like the people you presume
Invited you there to do so
Under their nom de plume

Just because your there
In such close proximity
Doesn’t mean there’s been a change
In the thoughts of your enemy
It should be crystal clear
They've never been a friend ya see
And I sincerely fear
That they will never be

Just because you’re there
In the camera shot
Doesn’t mean a thing
It’s just a photo- op
Now you can proselytize
Until you choose to stop
But you’ve been invited there
Strictly as a prop

WHAT WE NEED IS A MIRACLE
Cedric McClester Sep 2015
By: Cedric McClester

Bullets come out in a flood
Bodies go down with a thud
As the streets get red with blood
And the issue is dragged through the mud
There’s no longer stop and frisk
But can we blame it on this
When benefits versus risks
Suggests that we’d be amiss

It would be profound
To tell those in the ground
That the crime rate is down
Though that’s not what they found
Political ablution
Is no substitution
For a possible solution
We’re tired of elocution

Very much like cancer
No one has the answer
So I’m merely an advancer
Who’s looking to transfer
The onus to us
If we don’t adjust
And remain nonplussed
Despite our disgust
We’ll continue to combust

Now the Pope’s coming here
And hope’s everywhere
Will he have time to care
About our despair
‘Cos it’s unbearable
Though it may sound satirical
It’s clear and empirical
What we need is a miracle

Life is full of twists and turns
Full of lessons we must learn
From the karma that we earn
We should know how to discern
When we’re livin’ right
Walkin’ in the day or night
Where the vampires will not bite
They’re afraid of the sunlight

Forget that old analogy
What will be don’t havta be
It’s really up to you and me
To rewrite our destiny
Though life is a mystery
Certain patterns you can see
When you follow history
Are you listenin’ to me

Listen to these words I write
No matter what your life is like
It’s like riding on a bike
Practice helps to get it right
The inclinations that you fight
Are different as day from night
But try walkin’ in the light
Where the vampires will not bite

Life is full of twists and turns
Full of lessons we must learn
From the karma that we earn
We should know how to discern
When we’re livin’ right
Walkin’ in the day or night
Where the vampires will not bite
They’re afraid of the sunlight

ONE DAY AFTER THE CURE
Cedric McClester Dec 2015
By: Cedric McClester

One day after the cure
When AIDS is not around anymore
Will anyone remember
How it was before
When it was so dreaded
That we couldn’t ignore
Because we lost so many loved-ones
We started keeping score

One day after the cure
Will we repeat the recklessness we had before
We were smart enough to know
What lied in store
Because finally the disease
Has become obscure
And the suffering’s long forgotten
That we once endured

One day after the cure
Will unprotected *** have a familiar lure
Because it’s better that way
The guys will say for sure
And the girls will go for it
If they’re insecure
But they’re selling them a bill
Of warm horse manure

One day after the cure
Of anything the world has never seen before
That suddenly announces itself
By saying bonjour
Will we still be engaged
As if we’re at war
Or will it just be one more thing
We’ve learned to ignore

A government for the people
And by the people
Is just an old fashion ideal
Or at least that’s how it feels
Since Citizens United
Rose up to fight it
Then got the Supreme Court to bite it
It’s no wonder they’re delighted

A government for the people
And by the people
Might have been what we had
Before the oligarchy went mad
And told the middle class
Kiss their collective ***
So all that’s in the pass
Let’s say a funeral mass

A government for the people
And by the people
Like high button shoes
Is clearly yesterday’s news
But we’re to blame
For letting ‘em change the game
And throw out all the rules
Now we’re ruled by fools

A government for the people
And by the people
Let’s not sell that anymore
Like we used to do before
It’s time we start admitting
Politicians do their bidding
Who the hell we think we’re kidding
Not the ones the **** is hitting

AN UGLY GAME
Cedric McClester Apr 2015
By: Cedric McClester

They say he loves music
And he probably does
But his true motivation
Remains as it was
How many under him
Went down the wrong path
Have you stopped to think about it
Or done the math

It’s not that he’s evil
Just insidious
He’s a music game genius
Who instills their trust
Though most of his artists
Eventually go bust
After he has benefited
As always he must

It has to be understood
That it’s an ugly game
That you enter one way
But don’t leave the same
Put it on who you want
But you share the blame

Artist get wrapped up
In their artistry
And fail to look out for
What they cannot see
There’s pain in all parts
Of this industry
Words of experience
Take it from me

It has to be understood
That it’s an ugly game
That you enter one way
But don’t leave the same
Put it on who you want
But you share in the blame

They’re commodities
That are bought and sold
That’s how it is played
And the game’s very old
Some will burn hot
Before they turn cold
And there’s no more to gain
After they’ve mined the gold

It has to be understood
That it’s an ugly game
That you enter one way
But don’t leave the same
Put it on who you want
But you share in the blame

It’s not that he’s evil
Just insidious
He’s a music game genius
Who instills their trust
Though most of his artists
Eventually go bust
After he has benefited
As always he must

It’s not that he’s evil
Just insidious

Who instills their trust

I believe hope springs eternal
With faith measured by the kernel
We can get past this infernal
If we get cooking with some Sterno
Can we turn it all around
When we commit to get down
All kinds of solutions can be found
So I’ll continue to expound

We can over come they sang
While shooters went bang bang bang
But not from the members of a gang
Out of the darkness from which they sprang
So I’ll remain an optimist
Not just a complainant who ***** his fist
I know that ignorance is bliss
But at all costs that’s what we must resist

If there’s a need for a paradigm
James Baldwin called it the fire next time
While city officials called it a crime
We can’t repeat it time after time
But I’m encouraged by what I see
From the populace and the powers that be
I don’t know if that’s just me
Cos I see a positive destiny

The commentator called for peace and calm
While the Nation of Islam called an alarm
And members of the clergy said do no harm
Let’s march in protest arm and arm
I know that we can find a better way
Than the tragic displays of yesterday
Because everybody’s gonna have their say
See I believe in time it’s gonna be okay

Is it duplicity
That I detect?
Which confounds
The average intellect
When families are treated
With such disrespect
They say It’s not the aim
But it’s the affect

Families are forcefully
Separated
Is it any wonder why
America is hated
Even though they say
Our president is elated
His immigration policy
Needs to be debated

South Americans
Seeking asylum
Come to these shores
To escape the violence
Only to be criminalized
For their reliance
On the American dream
Which for them is silenced

Could it be
The color of their skin,
That works against
Them getting in?
If not why then ?
Because it’s a sin
To be in the predicament
They find themselves in

THE CIRCUS
Cedric McClester Jan 2016
By: Cedric McClester

Come with me to the circus
The head clown is center stage
His one and only purpose
Is to entertain and engage
Nothing that he says or does
Seems to insult or enrage
He’s got their rapt attention
As he pivots to assuage

What would a circus be
Without its assorted clowns
In full display to see
As the spotlight makes its rounds
Some have a lean and hungry look
Others look overfed
They’re all ready for a donnybrook
Judging by the things they’ve said

They all would like to be
Stars in their on right
But we’re gonna have to see
Who’s ready for the fight
They’re all looking to break out
On this very night
Although who ever makes it
Will find that shoe is tight

The lead clown always was
The fastest on his feet
And regardless of what he does
He will not retreat
His eye is on the prize
While he looks to defeat
All those on the rise
Cuz victory is sweet

IT'S CRA--
Cedric McClester Nov 2015
By: Cedric McClester

You know it’s cra
When the NRA
Finds the need to weigh
In on guns today
And they choose to say
That it’s a-okay
For terrorists
To fill their shopping lists

And we don’t hear
From Wayne Lapierre
Who doesn’t seem to care
Or may be unaware
About the things we fear
Despite the salient facts
And Paris attacks
That’s the way he acts

Second Amendment rights
To put out our lights
Has us in their sights
And clearly highlights
Why we have sleepless nights
Despite the gun debates
We’ll do what it takes
To put on their brakes

It’s insanity
If you’re asking me
It should be clear to see
Why there needs to be
Some sort of prohibition
To tamper their ambition
Why give them permission
To get what they’ve been wishing

DON'T ATTACK ME
Cedric McClester Jan 2017
By: Cedric McClester

Don’t attack me
Because we disagree
I have the right
To be LGBT
Don’t attack me
And expect me to surrender
Due to my color
Or because my gender

Don’t attack me and think
I’ll turn the other cheek
I won’t be submissive
Nor will I be weak
What must I do
To make you understand
Don’t attack me
Cos you think you can

Don’t attack me
Like it’s open season
Without a rhyme
Or even a reason
Don’t attack me
Like a lamb to slaughter
Nor should you do it
Cos you think you oughta

Don’t attack me
Because it’s convenient
When you know that you
Should try to be lenient
Don’t attack me
Because you find it easy
It would be easier
If you tried to please me

I love you baby
And that’s very clear
So you think that
I’ll always (I’ll always) be here
But you’re neglecting me
And I’ve been reflecting - see
I might just disappear
So right now (right now) we need to clear the air

I love you baby
You know that I do
I can’t take the changes
You’re putting me through
I’m getting tired
And I thought that you knew
So don’t act as if
What I’m sayin’s not true

You take me for granted
Just tell me you don’t
But we both know the truth
So I know (so I know) that you won’t
My love is my weakness
I’ve become convinced
And that thought alone
Has me (has me) so incensed

Tell me why do you do me
The way that you do
You once was my sunshine
Now you make me blue
I should call it quits
But I’m not over you
And I may never be
Completely through

I love you baby
You know that I do
I can’t take the changes
You’re putting me through
I’m getting tired
And I thought that you knew
So don’t act as if
What I’m sayin’s not true

What does it take
To be real with me
Tell me my love
Just make me see
We can’t ignore it
Or just let it be
You’re breaking my heart
Obviously

I love you baby
You know that I do
I can’t take the changes
You’re putting me through
I’m getting tired
And I thought that you knew
But you act as if
What I’m sayin’s not true

I love you baby
And that’s very clear

IT'S OKAY TO ROCK THE BOAT
Cedric McClester Mar 2016
By: Cedric McClester

The choice is there for you to choose
You can win or you can lose
If you try and don’t refuse
You can overcome your blues
See I know of what I speak
There was a time that I was weak
People pointed there’s the freak
Now I’m the one whom they all seek

Not to strike a somber note
Or to idly emote
It’s alright to rock the boat
You can swim or you can float

So what if they knock you down
Get yourself up off the ground
Courage isn’t born it’s found
You just have to hang around
Don’t let them define your fate
Or subjugate you to their hate
If they try don’t take the bait
Or do what they anticipate

Not to strike a somber note
Or to idly emote
It’s alright to rock the boat
You can swim or you can float

Despite what others try to do
Don’t let them influence you
Do what you feel you must do
To yourself you must be true

Let me pause right here to state
Don’t buckle underneath their weight
Or get in a funk-like state
Don’t allow them to checkmate
Now’s the time to show and prove
Don’t let them affect your grove
You’ve got to make the next move
Confidence does tend to soothe

Not to strike a somber note
Or to idly emote
It’s alright to rock the boat
You can swim or you can float

HE TALKS ABOUT VETTING
Cedric McClester Dec 2015
By: Cedric McClester

He talks about vetting
Muslims on the stump
But my question is
Who vets that chump
He’ll say anything
Just to get a bump
I know a tall bridge
From which he can jump

He wants to make
This country great again
For people like him
The whitest of  men
While he doesn’t say it
The message he sends
Is racist in nature
And he makes no amends

Who elected him
Or said he could be
The grand arbiter
Of people like me
Hasn’t he heard
That I was born free
He’s that obnoxious
And too blind to see

If you were to ask him
He’ll tell you he’s rich
And while that may be
Fortunes can switch
He might have a stroke
Wouldn’t that be a *****
And find he’s reduced to
A grimace or twitch

PLAY IT!
Cedric McClester Apr 2016
By: Cedric McClester

It was another time
But the same place
So if you see heartbreak
Written on my face
It’s because the memories
Aren’t easily erased
I remember the last time
That we embraced

I don’t know
If the thought occurred
To play the song
That we both preferred
Play it for me
Like you did for her
And I won’t say
Not another word

Play it Piano Man
Loud and clear
The way you did
When she was here
Let me feel it
Tickling my ear
Like it did
When I held her near

Don’t you remember
The good old days
When we left here
Sometimes in a haze
With both our eyes
Slightly glazed
Like I said
Those were the good old days

I don’t know
If the thought occurred
To play the song
That we both preferred
Play it for me
Like you did for her
And I won’t say
Not another word

I took her to the airport
And she boarded the plane
Begging me to come with her
But I chose to remain
Now I remember
The name of the song
“As Time Goes By”
Tell me if I’m wrong

I don’t know
If the thought occurred
To play the song
That we both preferred
Play it for me
Like you did for her
And I won’t say
Not another word

How long must we travel
Down this troubled road
Singling out people
That we should forebode
Because they’re dangerous
Or so that’s what we’re told
Cuz they have different beliefs
That the rest of us don’t hold

I’ve always been told
That we’re a melting ***
But if I might be so bold
The truth is that we’re not
And we’re not all equal
The way that we’ve been taught
When everybody doesn’t
Get an equal shot

There are those promoting
Separation and hate
And it’s well worth noting
The masses who relate
So few move the pieces
To bring about checkmate
So acrimony increases
And the hour's getting late

Those who have the need
To feel superior
By watching others bleed
In fact feel inferior
Although they might succeed
In ripping at our interior
Because they do indeed
Create such mass hysteria

KISSED BY THE MIST
Cedric McClester Apr 2016
By: Cedric McClester

Alone in my room
With me and my gloom
It’s like being entombed
And flowers don’t bloom
In the grave
Nor are moments like these
To be saved

But from my darkness
There’s light
I feel sunny and bright
Like everything’s gonna be alright

And the gloom is suddenly gone
Like the darkness of night after dawn
So when we embrace
It all comes into place
Like being kissed
By mist in your face

And my lips become moist
My silence gives voice
To the ecstasy I feel inside
You know how to open me wide
Like an addictive drug
I’m feeling the tug
Of your love

But from my darkness
There’s light
I feel sunny and bright
Like everything’s gonna be alright

And the gloom is suddenly gone
Like the darkness of night after dawn
So when we embrace
It all comes into place
Like being kissed
By mist in your face

All I know is this
In any case
I’ve been kissed
By mist in my face
All I know is this
In any case
I’ve been kissed
By mist in my face

Alone in my room
With me and my gloom
It’s like being entombed
And flowers don’t bloom
In the grave
Nor are moments like these

But from my darkness
There’s light

MANY, MANY PEOPLE
Cedric McClester Feb 2017
By: Cedric McClester

Many many, people
He’s fond of saying
When questioned about
The things he’s okaying
But how many are many
I’d like to know
And how deep do those numbers
Actually go

Many,many people
Like that justifies
His alternate facts
Or outright lies
Just because some say it
Doesn’t make it true
How many are there
I wish I knew

Many, many people
Is an alibi
For his outrageous positions
When questioned why
Because of a belief
Like his argument's strong
Whether his assertions
Are right or wrong

Many, many people
Like saying case closed
Because of some numbers
Nobody knows
Impressive to some
I would suppose
But not to me
And I hope it shows

Fox News has finally
Filed for divorce
From Bill O’Reilly
For being coarse
They say that they
Can no longer endorse
That kind of behavior
In their workforce

Sponsors have left Fox
By the droves
As that old adage
Commonly goes
Guilt by association
I suppose
In a place where
The emperor wears no clothes

Some say the divorce
Is quite overdue
When Roger Ailes left
O’ Reilly should have too
None of the allegations
Were from out the blue
Human Resources
Must have also knew

And so a sad chapter
Finally closes
At Fox news
And what I suppose is
They’ve been forced
To take care of their biz
Before they’re reduced
To nothing but fizz

DOG WHISTLE DON
Cedric McClester Oct 2018
By: Cedric McClester

Dog Whistle Don
Who was privileged born
Would that he be gone
Than we be left to morn
Another senseless death
Or comfort the bereft
Because a shooting fest
Created the distress

Dog Whistle Don
Pretends to be forlorn
When innocents are gone
And their lives are torn
From mayhem or ******
But nothing’s more absurder
Than his false sympathy
Cuz as everyone can see
He lacks true empathy

Dog whistle Don
Spouts his rhetoric
Like words tend not to stick
Or attract the sick
That no good such and such
Uses rallies as a crutch
And as long as he’s untouched
He don’t care that much

Dog Whistle Don
Was worthy of our scorn
From the day he was born
His mouth’s been a bullhorn
Inciting crowds to violence
And that the press be silenced
Because of his reliance
On mass compliance

THE PRESIDENT IS...
Cedric McClester Sep 2019
By: Cedic McClester

The President is
Non-compliant
As a matter of fact,
He’s defiant
It’s his perceived power
Upon which he’s reliant
But he’s his own lawyer
Who has a fool for a client

The President is
Most egregious
But some people stil
Think he’s prestigious
Albeit though,
A tad litigious
He’s an organism
That is epigeous

The President is
Efficacious
When it comes
To stirring up racists
He’s anything other
Than gracious
Call him what he is
Audacious

The President is
Pusillanimous
And doesn’t believe
In God we trust
As most
Other presidents must
See he’s only worthy
Of our disgust

THE WHEREFORES AND THE WHYS
Cedric McClester Jun 2015
By: Cedric McClester

Let’s get down to brass tacks
And ask ourselves the whys
Are we savages or civilized
In other people’s eyes
We take death for granted
Of course everybody dies
But they go a whole lot faster
When the bullets start to fly

Guns are everywhere
To their advocate’s delight
And they’re quick to sprout-off
About Second Amendment righs
While another lone assassin
Puts out somebody’s lights
And the argument continues
Throughout the days and nights

One thing is for certain
‘Cos the point's made very clear
The only place it’s happening
Appears to be right here
Is it something in our psyche
That we need to learn to fear
Or are we just violence prone
‘Cos we’ve had more than our share

As we look for answers
And engage in a frantic search
Nine innocents at Bible Study
Are shot down in their church
He was there to take those blacks
Off the face of the earth
And turn the tide for his own kind
In a search for his own worth

FOR THE GOOD OF THE PARTY
Cedric McClester Jun 2016
By: Cedric McClester

For the good of the party
They need to reassess
Who’s holding the trump card
In case they haven’t guessed
The party of Lincoln and Reagan
Has become so much less
But who is nominated ultimately
Will be the final test

For the good of the party
They need to disavow
The frontrunner’s shenanigans
They need to do it now
The whole world is listening
And watching his offensive style
He alienates everyone
We’ve known it for a while

For the good of the party
They  need to call a halt
By rejecting everything he says
Succinctly his gestalt
If he’s perceived as a racist
It’s totally his fault
The whole world’s sensibility
Has come under his assault

For the good of the party
They cannot let him claim
That he’s truly one of them
Because he’s not the same
He is so objectionable
That the word I used is tame
But when we get right down to it
The party must share the blame

AT WAR WITH SCIENCE
Cedric McClester Sep 2015
By: Cedric McClester,

Why are they at war with science
Especially when it calls for our compliance
They’d rather go by their gut’s reliance
Then to acquiesce so they remain defiant
Global e warming isn’t surreal
It’s fact-based not just how we feel
The moneyed interests know the deal
They just hope the science lacks mass appeal

The snowcaps are melting every day
And soon where will the grizzly bears stay
But as long as they can hold the truth at bay
They won’t let the evidence get in their way
Clearly it’s all about dollars and cents
And the public be ****** it’s at our expense
Some day it will all come out in the rinse
But until then we’ll remain in suspense

It’s for sure that our usage of fossil fuel
Will cause us all to drown in their polluted pool
Although ******* baffles brains as a general rule
I have to ask who are they trying to fool
It’s as if they don’t think we have eyes to see
And that  we must be blind, or is that just me
You can fool some people that well may be
But they’re gonna see the light eventually

Florida is four feet above sea level
And that can be measured without a bevel
But it’s going down rapidly yet they’re not troubled
So their effort to obfuscate just gets doubled
They can say that the jury is still out
Guess they missed the verdict’s but there is no doubt
So they can continue to scream and shout
Though the truth of the matter they’ll never tout

THE DOTS TO THE PUZZLE
Cedric McClester Nov 2018
By: Cedric McClester

There’s blood on his hands
But justice demands
Having the proof
And he’s been aloof
Those who did the deed
Have a greater need
They want to survive
To stay alive

So it’s absurd to expect
Them to connect
The dots to the puzzle
They’re sufficiently muzzled
And won’t place the blame
On Prince What’s-his-name?
Though  it’s hard to miss it
He’s clearly complicit

So the stench lingers on
The conclusion's foregone
That he placed the order
And condoned the slaughter
Of his journalistic critic
And just to be analytic
In his position
He can't stand opposition

His father is ailing
With health clearly failing
And the throne is in sight
To his son’s delight
So he’s biding his time
While hatching a crime
That’s so barbaric
The result may be pyrrhic

What’s wrong
With the world today?
It’s really hard to say
If you’re asking me
Then I’d reply, we must have lost our way
Climate change has rearranged the seasons
And war’s declared everywhere
Without adequate reasons

What’s wrong with society
Are you really asking me?
The answer should be pain enough
For a blind man to see
And there’s only one conclusion
That I would postulate
The world as we now know it
Seems to be full of hate

What’s wrong with people
And their priorities
We appear to be acquiescing
To right wing minorities
We’ve abandoned long held principles
Held by our majorities
And we’ve made the far right
Our new authorities

What’s wrong
With the world today?
People we have
Feet of clay
And we let our vulnerabilities
Constantly get in our way
So consequently
There’s price that we’re forced to pay

SEVENTY-TWO VIRGINS
Cedric McClester Nov 2015
By: Cedric McClester

So you want a ticket
To paradise
Before killing everyone
You see in sight
Read the Qu’ran
Maybe once or twice
And you won’t be listenin’
To a fool’s advice

You think if you die
You’ll get seventy-two virgins
So you blindly follow
A mad man’s urgings
Which will lead you to hell
After your conversion
You’ll be fuel the fire
And the devil’s diversion

Jihad Akbar
The great jihad
Ain’t about random killing
So before you start
It’s the battle that is waged
Within each heart
To stay on the straight path
Havc you done your part

Islam truly is
The religion of peace
Despite the things you see
Throughout the Middle East
Or the false prophets who are down
With the beast
Promoting ****** and mayhem
Which has increased

All of ‘em had better
Leave Islam alone
Because their religion
Is all their own
See they’re the last ones
Who should throw a stone
At others who disagree
With how their movement's grown

COMMON SENSE
Cedric McClester Nov 2016
By: Cedric McClester

Common sense
Should tell him immigrants
Can’t be deported wholesale
Or by the droves
Because everybody knows
That plan is doomed to fail
And no matter how tall
He seeks to build that wall
With girth and great expanse
Where's he gonna find the finance?

Keep all Muslims out
Is in great doubt
Once the ramifications
Have been factored out
And is he aware
We have allies there
Who are now voicing concern
Is he ever gonna learn
To keep his big mouth shut
Or is he just a nut

Keep the gays in check
With benign neglect
What an awful philosophy
To reverse their course
Without remorse
When it don’t make sense
Ya see
Trying to turn the clock back
Is not the way to act
He can’t change their destiny

And is he aware
That Obama Care
Is over twenty million strong
Who have what they lacked
So to ignore that fact
Would be nothing short of wrong
And in any case
It’s hard to replace
Despite his un-checked ambition
It’s a pre-existing condition

BOOTS ON THE GROUND
Cedric McClester Nov 2015
By: Cedric McClester

Has history taught us nothing?
That's what I’ve found
There are those still clamoring
For boots on the ground
Which may satisfy us emotionally
Just by the sound
But how lone are we prepared to stick around

Some suggest ISIS
Can be taken out
By boots on the ground
And American clout
But other than bravado
What’s that about
It’s a  confounding quagmire
Without a doubt

Certain things are
Easier said then done
Some act as if
We’re the Omnipotent One
Cuz we have the manpower
And also the gun
But history has shown us
Nation building ain't  fun

Fighting them over there
Rather than here
Might not be as simple
As it may first appear
If our strategy is not working
Which to some is clear
An effective alternative
I'd like to hear

PESSIMISTIC
Cedric McClester Jul 2019
By: Cedric McClester

They called him pessimistic
Though maybe he was not
Like a spider’s web his reputation
Is the place that he was caught
Perhaps it was the darkness
That he captured in his songs
Which offered no solutions
And didn’t right the wrongs

He tried to write a diary
To offer up some proof
Of the life that he was living
But would he tell the truth?
When asked how he was doing
It always was a goof
Because everytime he told them
They rather he be aloof

What he put down on paper
Wasn’t always true
Especially when it was written
From another’s point of view
He had some tricks up his sleeve
As every writer does
And many choose to believe
That’s the way he really was

He didn’t grow up in an era
Of self-indulgence, like today
His parents rarely asked him
If he was okay
Their love was in the discipline
He grew up to display
And in the fine manners
That he had anyway

THE BIGGER THEY ARE...
Cedric McClester Jan 2019

By: Cedric McClester

The bigger they are
The harder they fall
**** Donald Trump
And his border wall
Cuz he hasn’t heard
The clarion call
Of those who are suffering
Because of it tall

Government is
At a total standstill
Cuz he shut it down
Like a jagged pill
We have to swallow
Although it may ****
And he’s treating it
Like it's run of the mill

He is devoid of
Human empathy
So don’t look for him
To have sympathy
For those who live
From one check to the next
Who might not adjust
As he says he suspects

The bigger they are
The harder they fall
And the Mueller probe
Will reveal it all
Congress no doubt
Will seek to impeach
To hold him accountable
For his overreach

AMERICAN PEOPLE GATHER NEAR
Cedric McClester Dec 2015
By: Cedric McClester

American people gather near
Cuz every rabble-rouser isn’t sincere
You can be motivated by fear
Or you can cling to the things you hold dear
Bold words alone won’t bring about change
I’ve said it before, “******* baffles brains.”
And just like then the fact still remains
Despite certain people rattling our chains

You can be taken in by the hype
Cuz legitimately you may have a gripe
But don’t act as if you’re on the glass pipe
Pretend that you're made of a broader stripe
You can be tricked into not caring
Who you’re offending, but don’t call that daring
Say what you will about what I’m sharing
But into whose mirror have you been staring

Do onto others, as you’d have them do
The 20th Century should provide a clue
Today it’s them, tomorrow it’s you
Everything old tends to come back through
Even though certain people are hard to ignore
Hatred and xenophobia we’ve seen before
Do we really want to reopen that door
To advance an agenda we need to ignore

It’s high time that you and I realize
We’re not the only ones to be terrorized
By people that most Muslims despise
Miscreants who wear Islam as their disguise
We have to adjust and stiffen our backs
Now that we too are confronted by the facts
That we might be subjected to terror attacks
Let’s all remember how an American acts

I DON'T GIVE A SHIT!
Cedric McClester Jan 2017
By; Cedric McClester

I don’t give a ****
What you say
He’s not
The legitimate president anyway
But you and I no doubt
Will have to pay
Because the Russians
Put him into play

I don’t give a ****
What you think
His hair alone
Makes me wanna drink
The thought of him
Grabbing some woman’s pink
Makes me wanna question
Who the hell's his shrink?

I don’t give a ****
But then you knew
He don’t  even have
The slightest clue
So don’t ask me
Where this is headed to
When it's only four more years
That we have to get through

I don’t give a ****
That he chose Pence
Republicans think
It makes perfect sense
So therefore, hence
His true nature
Will come out in the rinse

HOW COULD YOU KNOW?
Cedric McClester Feb 2016
By: Cedric McClester

How could you know
My stress and strife
Your hatred cut me
Like a knife
But you’ve been privileged
All your life
With money a big house
And trophy a wife

How could you know
What I’ve been through
Unless you’ve walked
Inside my shoe
So don’t you dare act
Like you knew
While I’m the cork
And you’re the *****

How could you know
I have the blues
When you don’t see
What you refuse
You don’t acknowledge
I’m abused
While acting as if
You’re recused

How could you know
The depth of my pain
Unless I sit you down
To explain
Why it is
That you’re my bane
As long as you
Continue to reign

The emperor wears no clothes
And has contempt for our laws, as everyone knows
He has a triple chin and a belly that shows
He’s a miserable ******* I suppose
The emperor is naked for the world to see
Which makes him transparent, if you ask me
Though he hides his taxes, how can that be?
If he’s so open, how come we can’t see?

The emperor wears no clothes
And when it comes to Russia, he’s not opposed
To taking their side over those
Of his intelligence assessments, once disclosed
The emperor is what he’d like to be
When he looks in the mirror that’s what he sees
He’s surrounded by sycophants who exist to pleases
As a prerequisite, they must bend their knees

The emperor wears no clothes
Like Pinocchio his nose grows and grows
Because of the path that he obviously chose
It’s our patriotic duty to see that he’s deposed
The emperor is more than we can take
He doesn’t know how to apply the brake
And how did he get there for heaven sake
He’s like an abscess, a bad toothache

The emperor wears no clothes
And therefore, his short coming shows
He constantly picks his nose
And can’t even touch his toes
The emperor is not as he might appear
His rhetoric and actions don’t square
So by now we should all be aware
That he don’t give a **** or a care

HE VOWS…
Cedric McClester Jan 2017
By; Cedric McClester

He vows to build a fence
Along the Mexican border
By fiat
Through executive order
And his fingers
Are getting shorter and shorter
Ask those who know him
Like his wife or his daughter

He vows to build a pipeline
Across Indian land
Sympathizers and environmentalist
Will just have to understand
He’s creating jobs
Like the his supporters demand
Cracking down on Muslim immigrants
By having them banned

He vows to undo
All that Obama’s done
For him it could be called
Just having fun
He keeps going back
To the election he won
Caught up in the clouds
While ignoring the sun

He vows to make America
Great once again
At least that’s what he says
As only he can
I guess you could say
He’s an unusual man
Lots of folks like him
But I’m not a fan

ROME FINALLY FELL
Cedric McClester Dec 2015
By: Cedric McClester

It took more than a day
But Rome finally fell
So don’t think that we
Couldn’t as well
See we seem to be
Headed for hell
In a proverbial hand basket
Why can’t you tell?

What makes us special
Haven’t you asked
Is it just cuz we say so
We’ve been unmasked
So the self-satisfaction
In which we usually bask
Isn’t worthy of us
Even raising a glass

We are at a precipice
Isn’t it clear
If we continue like this
The future we hope for
We’ll probably miss
Let’s do what we can
And try to resist
Innate inertia and being remiss

They talk about
Making us great again
They’d like to take us
Back where we’ve been
But time moves forward
So let’s not pretend
We can ever return
And then seek to ascend

MY CANVASS IS...
Cedric McClester Apr 2015
By: Cedric McClester

My canvass is a blank piece of paper
So where do I start
See every word I write
Is a work of art
For critics to dissect
That is to take apart
Yet every word I write
Comes from my heart

My canvass isn't filled in
By charcoal or paint
But rather by the words I use
Without restraint
So you will know what it is
Or what it ain't
Before you even think
To lodge a complaint

My canvass is a blank piece of paper
Filled with the written word
Where my thoughts can be profound
Or sometimes absurd
They're carefully jotted down
The way they occurred
In the method and the manner
That I preferred

My canvass isn't filled with
Charcoal or paint
But rather by the words I use
Without restraint
So you will know what it is
Or what it ain't
Before you even think
To lodge a complaint

My canvass is whatever
I want it to be
Filled with the word pictures
I want you to see
Whether or not
You happen to agree
And I submit
It may not be your cup of tea

My canvass isn't filled with
Charcoal or paint
But rather by the words I use
Without restraint
So you will know what it is
Or what it ain't
Before you even think
To lodge a complaint

My canvass is a blank piece of paper
On which I create
Works of art from the words
That I state
At times they are mundane
Sometimes they're even great
And it's always my hope
That you can relate

My canvass isn't filled with
Charcoal or paint
But rather by the words I use
Without restraint
So you will know what it is
Or what it ain't
Before you even think
To lodge a complaint

NAME ME A DICTATOR…
Cedric McClester Mar 2019
By: Cedric McClester

Name me a dictator
That he doesn’t admire
If you come up with one
I’ll call you a liar
You could sell me a bridge
If I were a buyer
Or tell me it’s cold
When I know it’s fire

Name me a dictator
That he doesn’t admire
The very position
For which he aspires
You can’t pull the truth from him
With a pair of plyers
His favorite ice cream
Has to be Breyers

Name me a dictator
That he doesn’t admire
Curious minds
Can’t help but inquire
Because he too
Has that desire
In pursuit of which
He never tires

Name me a dictator
That he doesn’t admire
Though you know full well
What that would require
That would make me say
Your pants are on fire
Because your circuitry
Must Have gone haywire

A WOMAN'S BODY
Cedric McClester Oct 2018
By: Cedric McClester

I hope these words
Aren’t shared in vain
Like I hope you understand
Everything I’m sayin’
A woman’s body
Ain’t a man’s domain
And those who think it is
Should be ashamed

A woman’s body
Ain’t for the man’s taking
Just because his mind
Is soley on love making
Long before he finds out
What the hell is shaking
He should fall back
In case he’s mistaken

What is there about some men
That makes them assume,
They’re entitled to
What’s in a woman’s womb?
Because too much in a rush
Might be a little too soon
And that applies to Alaska
All the way to Cancun

Now’s the time to bring
This lecture to an end
Hopefully the men
Will comprehend
They’ve got to invest
To get a dividend
But they have to wait
Until the woman says when

Is he the President,
Or is he not?
Endowed with the powers,
That a President’s got?
Can he sign Executive Orders
Right on the dot.
Or is there a lesson
That he must be taught?

Is he the President
Of the entire US
Or just a pretender
More or less
The way that he’s treated
You’d never guess
That he won two elections
Despite all their mess

Is he the President
That the masses elected
Who twice was sworn in
You’d never suspect it
Before his nomenee
Is summarily rejected
A recalcitrant Senate
Must be corrected

Is he the President
Sworn to keep us safe?
And hasn’t he done that
At any rate
There is so much
Still on his plate
As his term winds down
There are some who can’t wait

Don’t believe the fake news
What have you got to lose?
If I am the one you choose
So why do you still refuse?
Crime is rampant you see
So law and order must be
The reason you listen to me
To hell with your dignity

Don’t believe the fake news
They let me ****** their cooze
And I don’t ply them with *****]
I just kiss the ones that I choose
For those of you who might balk
It’s not that I walk that walk
That’s just some locker room talk
Though it might screech like blackboard chalk

Don’t believe the fake news
They say that I’m gonna lose
BA-lieve me I’ve paid my dues
And I’m a friend of the Jews
So we’ll have to wait and see
If the people are gonna pick me
Over that lying Hillary
The Electoral College is key

Don’t believe the fake news
Considering that they lit the fuse
And attacked me in no less than twos
Knowing that I easily bruise
But hit me and I’ll counterpunch
More than that, eat your lunch
Until I hear the celery crunch
Whether breakfast dinner or brunch

YOU CAN'T BLAME OBAMA
Cedric McClester Apr 2017
By: Cedric McClester

You can blame Obama
For the horrible drama
In Syria, I’m hearin’ ya
But despite your chatter
The truth of the matter
Is it occurred under  your watch
And now it’s on you
And your motley crew

You can say it’s his fault
But you called a halt
To removing Assad
So it wasn’t hard
For him to conclude
It was alright dude
For a chemical attack
Now that’s just a fact

Blaming your predecessor
Is none the lesser
Of an affront
So let me be blunt
If you’re such a tough guy
Then answer me why
It occurred at all
Stop  passing the ball

Any way you slice her
Your spokesman Sean Spicer
Can’t speak for you
He hasn’t a clue
As to how it all works
When the chain Assad jerks
Is yours alone
Now your cover is blown

HELP ME UNDERSTAND

Help me understand
This in not a Muslim band
Against those from Muslim land
Whose skin is brown or tan?
Though they’re ones cited
To be held or not invited
To this homeland of the free
It’s a mystery to me

Help me understand
How the hatred that you fan
Across the desert sand
Can achieves objectives planned?
When your Islamaphobia
Has your enemies disrobing ya
About your claustrophobia
It's reminiscent of Cambodia

Help me understand
Assuming that you can
Show me that it’s other than
A straight up Muslim ban?
See the seven countries that you picked
Is why the notion clicked
They’re the ones that you constrict
With your macho fueled edict

Help me understand
Was your rollout planned
To show the world your backhand
It's sinking you like quicksand?
See the trust has been broken
And people have clearly spoken
Telling you that they’re heartbroken
But your answers are merely token
