ARE YOU ASKING ME?
Cedric McClester Nov 2016
By: Cedric McClester

Are you asking me
If I like what I see?
Thus far it’s a mess
So what is your guess
And the signal he sends
Quite truthfully depends
On one’s point of view
And what he’s prepared to do

Do you want to know
In what direction we will go
After things settle down
Will he be proven to be sound
In judgment or in mind
Once it all starts to unwind
In case you’re asking me
We’re gonna have to wait and see

Are you curious?
Or is it a matter of trust
Should we give him enough rope
To hang himself then hope
That it works out in the end
What’s your opinion friend?
It’s too hard for me to measure
So tell me what’s your pleasure

Well maybe it’s just me
But I can’t read the tea
So I won’t speculate
Whether or not it’s hate
Though it makes perfect sense
That things come out in the rinse
And we all will know in time
What might be the  paradigm

WE CAN BELIEVE
Cedric McClester Nov 2016
By: Cedric McClester

We can believe
That he has a need
To prosper and succeed
So we should follow his lead
And judge him by his deeds
Not his inner circle choices
That’s causing panic
And raised voices

We can believe
What we couldn’t conceive
On the election eve
Now that he’s achieved
Pulling the rabbit out his sleeve
Now comes the reaction
On the nation’s streets
From the various factions

We can believe
Even those who are peeved
There’s no cause yet to grieve
But let’s not be naïve
And say we’ve been deceived
When we know that it’s a weave
On his head
You best believe

We can believe
That he’ll get the heave
On new year’s eve
Without the reprieve
He expects to receive
If he doesn’t deliver
The things that he said
Then his presidency
Will be all but dead

HE APPEARED ON 60 MINUTES
Cedric McClester Nov 2016
By: Cedric McClester

He appeared on 60 Minutes
But did they get it right
When he said the demonstrators
Had no reason to have fright
When asked about his tweeting
In the middle of the night
He said he would more or less
Be a presence on that sight

He appeared on 60 Minutes
With his hair in perfect place
Answering their questions
While trying to make a case
For deporting immigrants
By the millions he would chase
To the deportation centers
That had sufficient space

He appeared on 60 Minutes
And was asked Roe vs Wade
Which he said was already law
Women need not be afraid
But he’d appoint Supreme Court Judges
Who would throw some shade
On that abortion law
That then the states would have to save

He appeard on 60 Minutes
With his wife and family in tow
To inform their TV viewers
How far they all would go
To support their patriarch
Charged with running the show
They would have no formal role
Which the people had to know

I HOPE YOU'RE SATISFIED
Cedric McClester Nov 2016
By: Cedric McClester

I hope you're satisfied
Now that you won
But now there's the job
That has to get done
And although the primary
Might have been fun
As President-elect
You're under the gun

See there's the cabinet
That has to be picked
And then there's the people
You've already tricked
Into thinking
You're not derelict
Yes you have the job
But has it yet clicked

By now you've been briefed
And the world's on your shoulders
There's little relief
From those rocks and boulders
That are coming your way
But I thought I told ya
You can't phone it off
Now the job will mold ya

See I'm rooting for you
To have success
Cuz we're depending on you
Nevertheless
You're in much deeper
Than you might have guessed
To get the things done
That you have expressed

A HATE-FILLED MIND
Cedric McClester Nov 2016
By: Cedric McClester

Though it may not appear
That you are what they fear
And it may not seem
Like it’s low self-esteem
Look a little closer
And you’ll often find
That’s what’s behind
A hate-filled mind

They try to act superior
While feelin’ quite inferior
Ya don’t havta state it if it’s a fact
They’re only projecting what they feel they lack
Look a little closer
And you’ll often find
That’s what’s behind
A hate-filled mind

They’re just frightened people
That’s all that they are
Yet that doesn’t stop ‘em
From baring the scar
Of their hate-filled actions
Fueled by their bigotry
Although frightened people
Is what they well may be

Hateful actions and the rhetoric
Of a minor few who are clearly sick
Permeates the atmosphere
You can find it everywhere
But look a little closer
And you’ll often find
That’s what’s behind
A hate-filled mind

A government for the people
And by the people
Is just an old fashion ideal
Or at least that’s how it feels
Since Citizens United
Rose up to fight it
Then got the Supreme Court to bite it
It’s no wonder they’re delighted

A government for the people
And by the people
Might have been what we had
Before the oligarchy went mad
And told the middle class
Kiss their collective ***
So all that’s in the pass
Let’s say a funeral mass

A government for the people
And by the people
Like high button shoes
Is clearly yesterday’s news
But we’re to blame
For letting ‘em change the game
And throw out all the rules
Now we’re ruled by fools

A government for the people
And by the people
Let’s not sell that anymore
Like we used to do before
It’s time we start admitting
Politicians do their bidding
Who the hell we think we’re kidding
Not the ones the **** is hitting

A leopard doesn’t change his spots
Or so it would seem
Look at the people
That are choosing his team
They are all our of
A very bad dream
It’s enough to make
You want to scream

A scorpion bites you
Cuz that’s what he does
And few things are different
From the way that it was
Where are the jobs
He said were coming back
They’re nowhere to be found
And that is a fact

A tiger can **** you
Faster than a lion
And he told tall tales
That his people were buyiin’
Cuz he’s such a con man
There’s no point denyin’
He never said how
Now he’s not even tryin’

There are certain things
That are hard to see
Like a snake slithering down
From out of a tree
Without a doubt
He’ll bite you ya see
And his venom will spread
But don't blame that on me!

THEY MAY LOVE HIM…
Cedric McClester Nov 2016
By: Cedric McClester

They may love him
But I refuse
To see him as anything
Other than my muse
See I won’t let him
Give me the blues
Cuz I say to myself
What is the use

They may love him
And while that’s alright
Why should I care
If he’s up late at night
Giving somebody
A three am tweet
Which is a dumb thing
He’ll no doubt repeat

They may love him
And that’s understood
Which is not to suggest
That everything’s good
They're burning his effigy
Cuz he knew he would
Alienate everyone
That he thought he could

They may love him
Although I do not
I think of him
As an irreverent snot
But be that as it may
He’s what we got
Is there any wonder
Why we’re in a rut?

Just because he’s
Another white man
Doesn’t mean that
He’s the right man
For this time or era
Can I make things any clearer
It would seem like Armageddon
Is the place that we are heading

I don’t know
If he’s a racist
Or whatever
The true case is
I just know he
Sounds like one
By the way
He chose to run

It wasn’t his intent
To come off as ignorant
That’s a shared sentiment
By those now needing liniment
To ease their aches and pain
Cuz he’s become their bane
And if I have to
I'll explain

I don’t know
If he’s a racist
Or whatever
The true case is
I just know he
Sounds like one
By the way
He chose to run

Some no doubt will insist
Clearly he’s a misogynist
And if I didn’t cover this
I’d probably be remiss
When he grabs them by their crotch
He considers it a notch
On his worn and beaten belt
Right down to how it felt

I don’t know
If he’s a racist
Or whatever
The true case is
I just know he
Sounds like one
By the way
He chose to run

And he wants to build a wall
Knowing he can’t catch ‘em all
Because he told a tale that’s tall
To everybody one and all
Also as part of his plan
He wants a total Muslim ban
Yet I don’t think he can
Get it done upon demand

I don’t know
If he’s a racist
Or whatever
The true case is
I just know he
Sounds like one
By the way
He chose to run

COMMON SENSE
Cedric McClester Nov 2016
By: Cedric McClester

Common sense
Should tell him immigrants
Can’t be deported wholesale
Or by the droves
Because everybody knows
That plan is doomed to fail
And no matter how tall
He seeks to build that wall
With girth and great expanse
Where's he gonna find the finance?

Keep all Muslims out
Is in great doubt
Once the ramifications
Have been factored out
And is he aware
We have allies there
Who are now voicing concern
Is he ever gonna learn
To keep his big mouth shut
Or is he just a nut

Keep the gays in check
With benign neglect
What an awful philosophy
To reverse their course
Without remorse
When it don’t make sense
Ya see
Trying to turn the clock back
Is not the way to act
He can’t change their destiny

And is he aware
That Obama Care
Is over twenty million strong
Who have what they lacked
So to ignore that fact
Would be nothing short of wrong
And in any case
It’s hard to replace
Despite his un-checked ambition
It’s a pre-existing condition

SATAN’S WORLD
Cedric McClester Nov 2016
By: Cedric McClester

It’s Satan’s world
That’s how it seems of late
Especially when God’s people
Appear to abdicate

There’s trouble everywhere
And life’s a living hell
For far too many people
Caught in the devil’s spell
They’re busy seeking this world
With no thought for the next
Worshipping possessions
And engaging in loose ***

It’s Satan’s world
That’s how it seems of late
Especially when God’s people
Appear to abdicate

Some don’t have a conscience
And they’ll do anything
Like sexing fourteen year olds
Who like the songs they sing
They take away their innocence
Cuz they don’t know the deal
But we’re exposing them right now
So they’ll know how we feel

It’s Satan’s world
That’s how it seems of late
Especially when God’s people
Appear to abdicate

Some want the best of both worlds
They want heaven while raising hell
And we’re not making judgments
You can look at them and tell
That they’re in bed with Satan
While they say they love the Lord
Just look at what they’re doing
Cuz their deeds can’t be ignored

It’s Satan’s world
That’s how it seems of late
Especially when God’s people
Appear to abdicate

Here’s the deal let’s keep it real
Cuz we’re not out to play
It may not be tomorrow
But you’re gonna pay one day
Cause all things done in darkness
Will soon come to light
Just because you’re a celebrity
Don’t mean you’re living right

It’s Satan’s world
That’s how it seems of late
Especially when God’s people
Appear to abdicate

BREAKING NEWS
Cedric McClester Nov 2016
By: Cedric McClester

This is breaking news
We all have the blues
Because of what they chose
When everybody knows
All he's done is lied
He's not qualified
But he wouldn't relent
Now he's the President

He is one hot mess
But who'd ever have guessed
That he'd win the whole contest
But nevertheless
There the hell we are
Never thought he'd get that far

Don't you find it strange
That a man who is deranged
Would take everything
Including the brass ring
He came out on top
Though we thought he'd be stopped
Besides asking who knew
What we gonna do

He is one hot mess
But who'd ever have  guessed
That he'd win the whole contest
But nevertheless
There the hell we are
Never thought he'd get that far

Now Hillary's been dumped'
Guess you could say that she's been *******
But that's the way the cookie crumbles
When you're caught in certain rumbles

He is one hot mess
But who'd ever have guessed
That he'd win the whole contest
But nevertheless
There the hell we are
Never thought he'd get that far

Life has got to still go on
Even when your heart is torn
We must all hope for the best
Even if we get much less
And in spite of our dilemma
Hope may still come in a glimmer
So despite where we're now at
We've got to hold on to that

ROCK-A-BYE BABY
Cedric McClester Nov 2016
By: Cedric McClester

He calls himself a man
Yet he can’t understand
Why the baby won’t stop crying
In the crib in which he’s lying
He agreed to baby sit
Not to take this **** (But now he’s catching it)

Rock-a-bye baby
But he wouldn’t stop
Now it’s a plea deal
That he hopes to cop
And the baby’s momma
Is out of her head
Rock-a-bye baby
Her baby is dead

He picked the kid up
To rock him at first
But the crying continued
And in fact it got worst
Then he shook him
In an aggravated state
And by the time he stopped
It was a little bit too late

Rock-a-bye baby
But he wouldn’t stop
Now it’s a plea deal
That he hopes to cop
And the baby’s momma
Is out of her head
Rock-a-bye baby
Her baby is dead

She tosses the details
Around in her head
Cause she can’t believe
Her baby is dead
And it doesn’t matter
Who is to blame
Her baby is dead
And she won’t be the same

Rock-a-bye baby
But he wouldn’t stop
Now it’s a plea deal
That he hopes to cop
And the baby’s momma
Is out of her head
Rock-a-bye baby
Her baby is dead

What we do to children
Is often so cruel
Because the exception’s
Becoming the rule
But infants are helpless
So **** the excuse
Because whatever you say
It’s still child abuse

Rock-a-bye baby
But he wouldn’t stop

IF A STRANGER CAME KNOCKING
Cedric McClester Oct 2016
By: Cedric Mc'Clester

If a stranger came knocking at your door
Would you answer it or ignore
The person on the other side
Or would they just be denied
What if the stranger had come for you
With blessings and forgiveness too
Tell me then what would you do
What would you decide

Ya know it happened once before
It was Jesus knocking at the door
But he was left to wait outside
Rejected and denied

What if you discovered it was your salvation
Outside the door that you left waiting
Looking for an offer to come in
Wouldn't that be an awful sin
And if that stranger would die for you
Be persecuted and go through
What no other person you know would do
Would you let him in

Ya know it happened once before
It was Jesus knocking at the door
But he was left to wait outside
Rejected and denied

If a stranger came knocking at your door
Would you do what they did to Jesus before
Would you leave him standing outside your door
Rejected and denied

If the stranger turned and walked away
Tell me truthfully would you rue the day
That you didn't let him in
Please answer if you can
What if his life served as a lesson
Of forgiveness for your transgressions
Would you attempt to apologize
Once you finally realized
And if so tell them when

Ya know it happened once before
It was Jesus knocking at the door
But he was left to wait outside
Rejected and denied

If the stranger turned and walked away
Tell me truthfully would you rue the day
That you didn't let him in
Please answer if you can

ONE HUMANITY
Cedric McClester Oct 2016
By: Cedric McClester

That man is my brother
But I don't know his name
What we share in common
Is we both bleed the same
I am not superior in my humanity
Just because my brother
Doesn't look like me

Why is it we demonize
The people that we see
Who are a little different
From folks like you and me
Because their views are opposite
From the ones we have
Doesn't automatically
Make their views all bad

That woman is my sister
In case you were in doubt
She wears her head covered
And I wear my hair out
Though she worships Allah
And I love Jesus Christ
She is still my sister
Don't think about it twice

Why is it we demonize
The people that we see
Who are a little different
From folks like you and me
Because their views are opposite
From the ones we have
Doesn't automatically
Make their views all bad

God made one humanity
From a single pair
Of those ancient parents
That all of us do share
We're different tribes and nations
By God's own design
So we'd know one another
Let's all keep that in mind

People the world over
Are basically the same
Despite various differences
In culture and in names
They want for their children
What we want for our own
The chance to grow and prosper
And to be left alone

Why is it we demonize
The people that we see
Who are a little different
From folks like you and me
Because their views are opposite
From the ones we have
Doesn't automatically
Make their views all bad

God made on humanity
God made on humanity
God made on humanity
God made on humanity

LOOK TO THE SKY
Cedric McClester Oct 2016
By: Cedric McClester

Every time I see you
You complain
If we talk about the weather
You mention the rain
You talk about the bad luck
That you've had
With you it's never good
It's always bad
And it's a habit
That I hope you'll kick
Like Sounds of Blackness
Be optimistic

Look to the sky
And hold your head up high
Time goes by so fast
Ya see this too will pass
So why pretend
The perdicament you're in
Is gonna last forever
Like things won't get no better

As a person thinketh
So are they
Only you can
Chase your blues away
Keep an open mind
Be positive
pessimists survive
But others live
There's no time
Like the present to begin
To give your life
A different kind of spin

Look to the sky
And hold your head up high
Time goes by so fast
Ya see this too will pass
So why pretend
The perdicament you're in
Is gonna last forever
Like things won't get no better

Changes are occuring
Everyday
Keep your head up
Wipe the tears away
You don't know
What tomorrow's gonna bring
That might give you joy
And make you sing

Look to the sky
And hold your head up high
Time goes by so fast
Ya see this too will pass
So why pretend
The perdicament you're in
Is gonna last forever
Like things won't get no better

THE FAMILY
Cedric McClester Oct 2016
The family is on shaky ground
When fathers do not stick around
And mothers have no time to spare
For babies who are in their care
When marriages don't run their course
Before the parties seek divorce
And children are left on their own
To run the streets and freely roam

Who's gonna take
The time or care
To bring the family
Back to where
It used to be
Way back when
Women were women
And men were men

The family is a by-gone term
Today too many men just drop *****
And not give it a second thought
About the chances they'll get caught
The mother is left to hold the bag
And even though that is a drag
It's family courts and concrete jungles
Cause that's the way the cookie crumbles

Who's gonna take
The time or care
To bring the family
Back to where
It used to be
Way back when
Women were women
And men were men

Who will step up to the plate
The time is now
It's getting late
It's really up to you and me
To shoulder our responsibility

The family is in mortal danger
When father is a word for stranger
And mothers just want to get high
To help the time fly on by
And what about the consequences
Y'all know that it's all so senseless
And even though we know that's true
The question is what will we do

Who's gonna take
The time or care
To bring the family
Back to where
It used to be
Way back when
Women were women
And men were men

I'VE ENDURED
Cedric McClester Oct 2016
By: Cedric McClester

I've endured the fire and flood
Had my name dragged through the dirt and mud
I've endured more than I would
Ever imagined that I could
I've endured, I've endured
I've endured it all
Because I knew on whom to call

There were times that looked so bleak
When I needed to be strong
But was so weak
And there were times I couldn't cope
Hung by a thread to the rope
That God supplies to his allies
But even then I knew who to call
I raised His name above them all

I've endured the fire and flood
Had my name dragged through the dirt and mud
I've endured more than I would
Ever imagined that I could
I've endured, I've endured
I've endured it all
Because I knew on whom to call

Then there were those times
Of good and plenty
Of exceeding joy and blessings many
When my heart was full of gratitude
And gratefulness described my mood
Even then
I knew from whence it came
So I turned to Him and praised his name

I've endured the fire and flood
Had my name dragged through the dirt and mud
I've endured more than I would
Ever imagined that I could
I've endured, I've endured
I've endured it all
Because I knew on whom to call

I've endured the good years
And the bad
I've endured when faith
Was all I had
I've endured the abundance
And the lean
I've endured with faith
In the unseen

I've endured the fire and flood
Had my name dragged through the dirt and mud
I've endured more than I would
Ever imagined that I could
I've endured, I've endured
I've endured it all
Because I knew on whom to call

There were timesof exceeding sadness
When things looked so bad
I had no memory of the gladness
That I once had had
But God changed that condition
Just like he changed me
And placed me in position
To be healed and free

I've endured the fire and flood
Had my name dragged through the dirt and mud
I've endured more than I would
Ever imagined that I could
I've endured, I've endured
I've endured it all
Because I knew on whom to call

SOMETHING MORE REVEALING
Cedric McClester Oct 2016
By: Cedric McClester

I could make love to you
All night long
And then
Start all over again
At the break of dawn
Every fantasy
That you wished could be
We can make come true
Once we fire the desire
Between me and you

Slip into something more revealing
Your **** body's so appealing
I'm ready for some mutual healing
That can be found in what we're feeling

I could engage in foreplay
For hours on end
And then cool you down
Right at the point when
You're about to implode
From the overload
But once I'm up in it
There won't be no limit

Slip into something more revealing
Your **** body's so appealing
I'm ready for some mutual healing
That can be found in what we're feeling

If you're down for fun
We can engage in some one on one
Whatever you want under the sun
I'm more than ready to get the job done

Slip into something more revealing
Your **** body's so appealing
I'm ready for some mutual healing
That can be found in what we're feeling

I'm not after
Bragging rights
But I have first dibs
On those kinds of nights
Nights that were made
For making love
Cause we fit each other
Like hand and glove

If you're down for fun
We can engage in some one on one
Whatever you want under the sun
I'm more than ready to get the job done

Slip into something more revealing
Your **** body's so appealing
I'm ready for some mutual healing
That can be found in what we're feeling

I could make love to you
All night long
And then
Start all over again
At the break of dawn
Every fantasy
That you wished could be
We can make come true
Once we fire the desire
Between me and you

Today we want a god
Who looks the other way
So we can break his laws
Like everything's okay
We don't want to hear
His wrath or reprimand
That our actions bring
When things get out of hand

I don't want a god
With no rhyme or reason
And I don't want a god
Who changes with the seasons
I don't want a god
Influenced by the times
And I don't want a god
Who ignores our crimes

We're living in an era
Where anything can go
Between consenting  adults
As if God doesn't know
There's a price to  pay
Based on our behavior
For living for the moment
At the expense of later

I don't want a god
With no rhyme or reason
And I don't want a god
Who changes with the seasons
I don't want a god
Influenced by the times
And I don't want a god
Who ignores our crimes

God is not old fashion
And he has never been
He knew everything
Before there was a when
He never made a law
That hadn't been thought out
Which has me wondering
What they're talking about

I don't want a god
With no rhyme or reason
And I don't want a god
Who changes with the seasons
I don't want a god
Influenced by the times
And I don't want a god
Who ignores our crimes

There are consequences
For everything we do
Now's no time to act
As if we never knew
Just because our punishment
Often is deferred
Doesn't mean the punishment
Will never occur

I don't want a god
With no rhyme or reason
And I don't want a god
Who changes with the seasons
I don't want a god
Influenced by the times
And I don't want a god
Who ignores our crimes

We're living in an era
Where anything can go
Between consenting  adults
As if God doesn't know
There's a price to  pay
Based on our behavior
For living for the moment
At the expense of later

GUILTY BY ASSOCIATION
Cedric McClester Oct 2016
By: Cedric McClester

I’ll readily admit
I had to give to get
My life back on track
People that’s a fact
I gave up my old ways
From my thugging days
I found a better way
And so you’ll hear me say

I’m guilty by association
He gave me motivation
To picx myself up off the ground
And turn my life around

Hell was looming large
So I answered the charge
Guilty by association
Now I’m free from degradation
And the company I keep
Is heavenly and deep

I’m guilty by association
He gave me motivation
To picx myself up off the ground
And turn my life around

Arrest me on suspicion
I won’t change my position
I’m guilty by association
That’s my charge and motivation
And I’m ready for my sentence
Cause I’ve given my repentance

I’m guilty by association
He gave me motivation
To picx myself up off the ground
And turn my life around

My ascent was so steep
Cause the company I keep
Isn’t of the human kind
It’s anointed and devine
And I accept the invitation
Guilty by association
And I have no regrets
He’s paid all my debts

I’m guilty by association
He gave me motivation
To picx myself up off the ground
And turn my life around

Arrest me on suspicion
I won’t change my position
I’m guilty by association
That’s my charge and motivation
And I’m ready for my sentence
Cause I’ve given my repentance

I’ll readily admit
I had to give to get
My life is back on track
People that’s a fact
I gave up my old ways
From my thugging days
I  found a better way
And so you’ll hear me say

Arrest me on suspicion
I won’t change my position
I’m guilty by association

And I’m ready for my sentence

THE POWER OF BELIEF
Cedric McClester Oct 2016
By: Cedric McClester

The power of belief
Can change you over night
Though you were going left
God can send you right
And all you have to do
Simply is to believe
Through the power of God
All things can be achieved

The power of belief
Can open up your eyes
To the kind of things
You never realized

I am only saying
In total honesty
What belief has done
For people much like me
Who were not aware before
So didn’t have belief
Until they discovered
That ignorance brings grief

The power of belief
Can open up your eyes
To the kind of things
You never realized

Why should you deny yourself
Those blessings that abound
Whether you believe or not
God still sends them down
But you must believe in him
So you can benefit
Why should you deprive yourself
Of all that you can get

The power of belief
Can open up your eyes
To the kind of things
You never realized

There are those who find it hard
Even to conceive
How anyone can go though life
And say they don’t believe
What is it that you need
As proof or evidence
That nature does not provide
It just don’t make no sense

The power of belief
Can open up your eyes
To the kind of things
You never realized

LORD I WANT TO THANK YOU
Cedric McClester Oct 2016
By: Cedric McClester

This is my true story
And it’s begging to be told
Once I was so distant
That it turned most people cold
The only one I cared about
Happened to be me
I was rapped up in myself
And that was plain to see

Lord I want to thank you
For giving me this day
And I want to thank you
For all you’ve sent my way
Lord I am so grateful
For what you’ve given me
I was self-absorbed
Before you set me free

People called me selfish
But that was just a word
My ego was out of control
In case you haven’t heard
To say I was conceited
Understates the case
I couldn’t pass a mirror
Without checking my face

Lord I want to thank you
For giving me this day
And I want to thank you
For all you’ve sent my way
Lord I am so grateful
For what you’ve given me
I was self-absorbed
Before you set me free

I’m a different person
Than I was yesterday
Lord I want to thank you
And I want to say
If you hadn’t rescued me
I’d probably still be lost
Out there on the avenue
Thinking I’m the boss

Lord I want to thank you
For giving me this day
And I want to thank you
For all you’ve sent my way
Lord I am so grateful
For what you’ve given me
I was self-absorbed
Before you set me free

No one would have ever guessed
That I could ever change
If you claimed that back then
They’d look at you so strange
But miracles do happen
They happen everyday
So don’t hold it against me
Because one came my way

Lord I want to thank you
For giving me this day
And I want to thank you
For all you’ve sent my way
Lord I am so grateful
For what you’ve given me
I was self-absorbed
Before you set me free

YOU CAN’T PLAY WITH THIS!
Cedric McClester Oct 2016
By: Cedric McClester

I’m talking to you
But it applies to me
You can’t play with this
If you want to be sin free
You can’t call God’s Name
And then do Satan’s work
Or hang out all night long
Where the devil usually lurks
Then show up Sunday morning
Holier than thou
Shaking off the hangover
That you picked up somehow

You can’t play with this
Cuz ya can’t get away with this
Is you want perfect bliss
Then this point do not miss

This is not a game
And this is not a joke
Those who play with it
Often wind up broke
Don’t be one of those
Poor in mind and spirit
Who have lost their way
Cuz they ain’t tryin’ to hear it
And don’t call on the Lord
If you aren’t sincere
Cuz that’s a wasted call
From your mouth to God’s Ear

You can’t play with this
Cuz ya can’t get away with this
Is you want perfect bliss
Then this point do not miss

People playin’ games
But they’re not fooling anyone
I’m not naming names
But that don’t mean I’m done
Putting them on blast
So let the spotlight shine
If we expose their past
They’ll be less inclined

You can’t play with this
And you never should
God-fearing people don’t
While worldly people would
You can’t play with this
But many folks are lost
And so they took a chance
But had to pay the cost
You know what I’m sayin’
So don’t cha get it twisted
If you’re still out there playing
Then you have surely missed it

You can’t play with this
Cuz ya can’t get away with this
Is you want perfect bliss
Then this point do not miss

DOES GOD REALLY EXIST?
Cedric McClester Oct 2016
By: Cedric McClester

Lord though I can’t see you
I can read your words
And I can see your creation
The thought never occurs
To question your existence
As some might be inclined
Instead of your existence
They need to check their minds

Does God really exist
Their questioning persists
They’re fostering pure ignorance
And this they should resist

Lord though I can’t see you
There’s enough evidence
To give the notion credence
That you make perfect sense
To question your existence
Is arrogance at best
Or just some ****** babble
From the lost and the clueless

Does God really exist
Their questioning persists
They’re fostering pure ignorance
And this they should resist

Name me one religion
That cannot make the case
That there’s a God in heaven
That’s always been in place
The evidence is everywhere
That He’s alive and well
And even after we’re all gone
He’ll survive to tell

Does God really exist
Their questioning persists
They’re fostering pure ignorance
And this they should resist

Lord though I can’t see you
I can feel Your Grace
And I’m anticipating
When we’ll come face to face
I have felt Your Mercy
And your compassion too
That’s why I’d never question
Cause I believe in you

Does God really exist
Their questioning persists
They’re fostering pure ignorance
And this they should resist

GRACE AND GLORY
Cedric McClester Oct 2016
By: Cedric McClester.

There’s beauty in a rising sun
And beauty when it sets
There’s beauty in the stars at night
That shine like bright baguettes
Those things we tend to take for granted
But none would be on view
If not for your Grace and Glory
It’s all a part of you

I love to see the leaves in autumn
Their colors on display
And the trees looking abandoned
Once their leaves have gone away
But they’ll be back in springtime
As sure as summer rain
If not for your Grace and Glory
How could it be explained

Lord you are the Grace and Glory
That’s constantly on view
All that exists in nature
Is there because of you

I like the changes of the seasons
Winter melting into spring
The soothing warmth of summer mornings
And the cool that autumn brings
I’m awe struck by your Grace and Glory
And all it manifests
No one comes close to you
Not even second best

Lord you are the Grace and Glory
That’s constantly on view
All that exists in nature
Is there because of you

There’s beauty in a rising sun
And beauty when it sets
There’s beauty in the stars at night
That shine like bright baguettes
Those things we tend to take for granted
But none would be on view
If not for your Grace and Glory
It’s all a part of you

BETRAYAL
Cedric McClester Oct 2016
By: Cedric McClester

I broke my wedding vows
When I betrayed your trust
Momentary weakness
Is a poor excuse for lust
It led me to adultery
Which I do regret
And I can’t really blame you
For being so upser

I beg you to forgive me
You’re the one I love
I didn’t mean to hurt you
Although I’m guilty of
An act of infidelity
Which is a mortal sin
God knows that I’m sorry
Even though I wasn’t then

I don’t want to lose you
Because of my mistake
And I’m committed to
Do all that it takes
For us to save our marriage
I don’t want to be divorced
That’s why I pray to God
That we can stay the course

For a moment’s pleasure
I could be losing you
And that’s the very last thing
I’d ever want to do
I’m begging please forgive me
Find it in your heart
I just couldn’t stand it
If we break apart

I didn’t want to hurt you
Yet that’s what I did
Lust and raw desire
Is why I got down with
Someone who meant nothing
In the way you do
I was in lust with her
But I’m in love with you

COMMON GROUND
Cedric McClester Oct 2016
By: Cedric McClesterr

There’s so much hatred
In the world today
Love and understanding
Have all but gone away
Slowly but surely
We are nearing the day
When judgement will come
And that’s why I say

What we share in common
Outweighs what we don’t
I believe that we can
Some think that we won’t
Eventually find some common ground
To bring us together if we’re still around

Rational thinkers
Must take a stand
For sanity’s sake
They need to demand
That we come together
The way that God planned
As a human family
Of woman or man

What we share in common
Outweighs what we don’t
I believe that we can
Some think that we won’t
Eventually find some common ground
To bring us together if we’re still around

Say what you will
Call me paranoid
But the alternative
We need to avoid
There has to be a better way
For us to act towards each other today
Knowing God is in heaven
And He’s there to stay
Should be enough
And that’s why I say

What we share in common
Outweighs what we don’t
I believe that we can
Some think that we won’t
Eventually find some common ground
To bring us together if we’re still around

Isn’t it time
That the healing begin
And war and destruction
Be brought to an end
There’s so much suffering
Why should we pretend
That war is something
We need to defend

REMEMBER ME (DEBBIE LOVE)
Cedric McClester Oct 2016
By; Cedric McClester

Remember me
Not in this box you see
But remember me
As I used to be
Smiling, laughing having fun
Remember me
Before my life was done
Remember me

Remember me
In quiet moments
Remember me
With smiles and condolence
Remember me
And the times we shared
Remember me
Knowing I cared

Remember me
But not because I’m gone
Through your memories
I will always live on
Remember me
Or something I said
Remember me
Though I’ve gone on ahead

Remember me
And never forget
That I lived my life
And had few regrets
Remember me
Though your eyes are wet
Remember me
And don’t be upset

FROM OBSERVATION
Cedric McClester Sep 2016
By: Cedric McClester

From observation
Something is wrong
Relationships today
Don’t last as long
Commitments aren’t
Binding or as strong
As they once were
People move on

I’m just curious
So I thought I’d ask
Is monogamy
A thing of the past
Relationships today
Don’t seem to last
In my opinion
They end too fast

There are reasons
For this phenomenon
So I thought that I
Would try to list some
Like people who cheat
And then play dumb
Or people who lie
Leaving you numb

I’m just curious
So I thought I’d ask
Is monogamy
A thing of the past
Relationships today
Don’t seem to last
In my opinion
They end too fast

Why can’t we commit
And make that it
Which is not happening
From where I sit
How come some people
Want to explore
But the question that arises
Is what for

If you have someone
Better hold on tight
And do all you can
To treat ‘em right
Forget about the mysteries
Of the night
If the offer you an apple
Don’t take a bite

I’m just curious
So I thought I’d ask
Is monogamy
A thing of the past
Relationships today
Don’t seem to last
In my opinion
They end too fast

AN ARBITER OF APHORISM
Cedric McClester Sep 2016
By: Cedric McClester

He elected to create
The conscious lie of birtherizm
And in so doing
Created a nationwide schism
But who elected him
As an arbiter of aphorism
While showing the world
His unique brand of racism

Now he’s declared
For the world to hear
That the President is American
Or so it would appear
But what his words of acknowledgment
Didn’t make clear
Will an apology be forthcoming
Or not as I fear

Did he finally say it
Or was it an illusion
After all these years
What brought him to
That conclusion
And why was he
So hell-bent
On causing confusion?

To put it succinctly
The man is a fraud
And morally speaking
We know he’s flawed
So nothing he says
Should we find odd
But he can’t escape
 The judgment of God

CAUGHT UP IN THE MYSTERY
Cedric McClester Sep 2016
By: Cedric  McClester,

We’re caught up in the mystery
Of who it’s gonna be
Nevertheless if I had to guess
Guess we’ll just have to see
But it’s down to a short list
So the answer some insist
To which they give their voice
They hope will be the choice

So it makes perfect sense
That we’re caught up in suspense
And though it is intense
It will come out in the rinse

Like Shakespeare’s line,“Poor Yorick.”
The choice will be historic
Depending upon how it goes
Some will be euphoric
But only one person knows
Ain’t that usually how it goes
The one who does the choosing
Knows who’s winning or losing

So it makes perfect sense
That we’re caught up in suspense
And though it is intense
It will come out in the rinse

And if you’re asking me
The biggest mystery might be
What I’m talking about
Cuz there’s an element of doubt

So it makes perfect sense
That we’re caught up in suspense
And though it is intense
It will come out in the rinse

As the betting folks make bets
And the losers have regrets
To be quite merciful
It’s nothing personal
You can take it from me
It’s only business don’t cha see
Don’t read more into it
Than happenstance or mother wit

So it makes perfect sense
That we’re caught up in suspense
And though it is intense
It will come out in the rinse

TIME GOES BY FAST
Cedric McClester Sep 2016
By: Cedric McClester

Time goes by fast
But memories that last
Are like snap-shots of the past
That we view in contrast
To the here and now
And so we make a vow
To apply the breaks
And avoid our past mistakes

Time goes by fast
And nothing ever lasts
For those who are miscast
Or the errant iconoclast

In the rear view mirror
Things become much clearer
To the standard bearer
Who see them much nearer
Than they were before
When it was easier to ignore
The intricate designs
Of the various warning signs

Time goes by fast
And nothing ever lasts
For those who are miscast
Or the errant iconoclast

Seconds minutes hours
With all it’s magical powers
We observe like blooming flowers
That time finally devours

And as slowly we retreat
To our thoughts so bitter sweet
Not acquiescing to defeat
That occasionally we meet
So we long for yesteryear
Cuz we’re far away from there
And the veil is very shear
Between there and here

Time goes by fast
And nothing ever lasts
For those who are miscast
Or the errant iconoclast

Time goes by fast
But memories that last
Are like snap-shots of the past
That we view in contrast
To the here and now
And so we make a vow
To apply the breaks
And avoid our past mistakes

SOMETHING HAS CHANGED
Cedric McClester Sep 2016
By: Cedric McClester,

Lately I wonder
If you still care
I come home from work
And you’re not there
My breakfast and dinner
You used to prepare
Now you make excuses
And I’m quite aware

Something has changed
When did it begin
See I get the message
You’re starting to send
We’re in the middle
But it feels like the end
So stop the charade
You don’t have to pretend

Where are you spending
Most of your time
Cuz it’s not with me
And that’s just a crime
It’s not like I can’t see
You know I’m not blind
And I’m starting to think
That you’re no longer mine

Something has changed
When did it begin
See I get the message
You’re starting to send
We’re in the middle
But it feels like the end
So stop the charade
You don’t have to pretend

Was it something I did
Or something I said
That made you start looking
That far ahead
All of your signals
Were easily read
Seems you’re telling me
That our love is dead

It’s clear as day
That I care for you
In spite of the things
That you’ve chosen to do
Everything I’m saying
You already knew
No need acting like
It comes out of the blue

Something has changed
When did it begin
See I get the message
You’re starting to send
We’re in the middle
But it feels like the end
So stop the charade
You don’t have to pretend

Where are you spending
Most of your time
Cuz it’s not with me
And that’s just a crime
It’s not like I can’t see
You know I’m not blind
And I’m starting to think
That you’re no longer mine
Something has changed
When did it begin
See I get the message
You’re starting to send
We’re in the middle
But it feels like the end
So stop the charade
You don’t have to pretend

WHERE ARE WE GOING?
Cedric McClester Sep 2016
By: Cedric McClester

Where are we going
As a nation
It’s time we had
That conversation
Cuz rapidly
I’m losing patience
With our divisions
And separations

Some would like
Their country back
Like it went somewhere
As a matter of fact
Is it being said
To make us react?
Has their hegemony
Somehow been jacked

There are certain people
Who profess free speech
And when others object
It’s violence they teach
And pay the legal bills
For those who overreach
By letting go of
Their inner savage beast

United we stand
And divided we fall
This is being directed
To all of y’all
Who haven’t given it
A single thought
Armageddon can be
The karma we wrought

MANY PEOPLE THINK...
Cedric McClester Sep 2016
By: Cedric McClester

Trump would like us to take
A poisoned Kool Aid drink
Because many people think
Just like many people don’t
By giving him their support
They’re selling themselves short
No matter how we retort
To him it’s merely a sport

While telling his many lies
He never identifies
Who those many people are
That he’s noted thus far
And it’s really scary
Because he derives his theory
From the worldwide internet
Which should make us all upset

Now he’s praising Putin
Who’s in Crimea shooting
And confiscating land
Because he’s out of hand
But Donald’s busy dissin’
Our President and dismissing
Him as incompetent
Like he’s been where he went

Making crucial decisions
Requires the kind of precison
That the Donald lacks
These are just the facts
But his ego is such
That he thinks too much
Of his inherent ability
Because he’s much too blind to see

I JUST THINK IT’S WRONG
Cedric McClester Sep 2016
By: Cedric McClester

I just think it’s wrong
And my conviction is very strong
But you might disagree
You have that right ya see
But it’s also a fact
I don’t need to be attacked
Unnecessarily
See - I’m just being me

If I say it’s not the norm
And that I believe it’s wrong
Even if you can't go along
I hope it doesn’t create a storm

Everyone you’ll find
Is not of the same mind
We see things differently
That’s part of being free
To say what’s on your mind
Not to be unkind
But to share a point of view
That might differ from you

If I say it’s not the norm
And that I believe it’s wrong
Even if you can't go along
I hope it doesn’t create a storm

One size don’t fit all
It’s an individual call
And I’m trying to keep it real
By stating how I feel
As you rightly might suspect
It may not be politically correct
But at the end of this lesson
Hopefully I’ve answered the question

I’m not in that amen chorus
Among those who only bore us
I don’t endorse any agenda
That suggests I must surrender
To a set of dogmatic beliefs
That never desist or decease
What I hold inside is strong
Which don’t make me right or wrong

If I say it’s not the norm
And that I believe it’s wrong
Even if you can't go along
I hope it doesn’t create a storm

By: Cedric McClester,

Today everything
Is *******
There’s no subtlety
It’s all overstated
Some love it
While others hate it
Others yet
Like to debate it

Is it heaven
Or is it hell
Nowadays
It’s hard to tell
Everyone’s
Under Shaytan’s spell
It’s very clear
All isn’t well

Some celebrate
While others disparage
The mere notion of
Gay marriage
They just want
What you and me
Take for granted
Don’t you see

Is it heaven
Or is it hell
Nowadays
It’s hard to tell
Everyone’s
Under Shaytan’s spell
It’s very clear
All isn’t well

Now transgenders
Have made the call
For the right to go
Into any stall
Some tend to stumble
While others fall
They find the issue
An order too tall

Is it heaven
Or is it hell
Nowadays
It’s hard to tell
Everyone’s
Under Shaytan’s spell
It’s very clear
All isn’t well

LIFE’S A MARATHON
Cedric McClester Sep 2016
By: Cedric McClester

Life’s a marathon
It’s never been a sprint
But time goes by so fast
You’ll wonder where it went
So make the most of it
Would be my comment
And when the clock runs out
You can die content

Life’s a marathon
It’s never been a dash
You must conserve energy
If you want to last
It’s not won by the swiftest
Because they run real fast
Is it won by the wisest
You might want to ask

Life’s a marathon
So to stay in the running
More than being fast
You’ll have to be cunning
If you want to last
And be deemed as stunning
Once the dye is cast
Your victory is coming

Life’s a marathon
Not a simple race
If you want to win
You’ll have to keep pace
And time yourself
To stay in the chase
In order to cross the line
And come in first place

I’LL BE WONDERING IF...
Cedric McClester Sep 2016
By: Cedric McClester,

For the people (by the people)
Y’all know that’s a myth
Cuz Citizens United
Was a power broker’s gift
For those they place in office
Who must repay ‘em swift
So y’all keep on believing
While I’ll be wondering if

If we took the money out of it
Where would we be
I believe a whole lot further than
What we see presently
If our elected officials
Didn’t have to beg
Then maybe we the people
Would have the upper leg

In God we trust is what
We like to say
As long as God
Don’t get in the way
Of the One Percent
Who are running things today
To them hypocrisy and greed
Is perfectly okay - but

If we took the money out of it
Where would we be
I believe a whole lot further than
What we see presently
If our elected officials
Didn’t have to beg
Then maybe we the people
Would have the upper leg

While you get a cold one
Out of the fridge
Would you mind it terribly
If we go to the bridge
I think it’s high time
That we take a break
It’s only the country
That’s ultimately at stake

Y’all don’t wanna have me
Start to cursing
But how the hell can a corporation
Really be a person
They change their names
And identities
Like a ***** changes her drawers
And that alone should give you (reason to take pause)

If we took the money out of it
Where would we be
I believe a whole lot further than
What we see presently
If our elected officials
Didn’t have to beg
Then maybe we the people
Would have the upper leg

For the people (by the people)
Y’all know that’s a myth
Cuz Citizens United
Was a power broker’s gift
For those they place in office
Who must repay ‘em swift
So y’all keep on believing
While I’ll be wondering if

WISH LIFE WAS…
Cedric McClester Sep 2016
By: Cedric McClester,

Wish life was everlasting
As we like to pretend
Wouldn’t it be fantastic
If it never had to end
Wish love ruled supreme
And we never went to war
At least this is my dream
That we stop keeping score

Wish that life was
Everything we want it to be
If it were then maybe
At last we could all be free

Wish that global warming
Was nothing but a myth
And not the nagging reality
That we’re forced to live with
Wish we would treat each other
Like we want to be treated
We’re all sisters and brothers
The cycle of life gets repeated

Wish that life was
Everything we want it to be
If it were then maybe
At last we could all be free

Wish my wishes came true
And the whole world was brand new
Imagine what we could do
If we didn’t have to go through
All the things we could avoid
I’m not just being paranoid
What I’d like to see encased
Is the world as a better place

Wish we could all agree
To do the things we can
Then maybe we could see
What it means to be human
Wish that you and me
Always saw eye to eye
Then maybe we could be
As committed as we try

Wish life was everlasting
Like we like to pretend
Wouldn’t it be fantatic
If it never had to end
Wish that life was
Everything we want it to be
If it were then maybe
At last we could all be free

NINE TIMES
Cedric McClester Aug 2016
By: Cedric McClester,

They let that devil go nine times
And as a consequence
Children continued to be molested
Does that make any sense
He was reported time and time again
Since nineteen sixty eight
But the system didn’t catch up with him
Until it was much too late

Nine times he was reported
And still they let him go
Charges were unsubstantiated
Even thought the children let ‘em know

Children continued being sent
To his house of horror
Where he wore his cloak of invincibility
As if it were an aura
And so he cast a shadow of doubt
That covered him for decades more
Before they were able to figure out
He was a molester for sure

Nine times he was reported
And still they let him go
Charges were unsubstantiated
Even though the children let ‘em know

Most of the victimized children
Who were forced to endure
His personalized brand of terror
Aren’t there anymore
But new ones came into his lair
Just like they did before
And this went on year after year
But it doesn’t happen anymore

Why did it  seemingly take forever
For him to get indicted
But now that he finally has
And his litany has been recited
The latest of which involved seven children
As well as the family dog
It’s a hell of a case they’re finally building
Now that they’re in whole hog

Nine times he was reported
And still they let him go
Charges were unsubstantiated
Even though the children let ‘em know

They let that devil go nine times
And as a consequence
Children continued to be molested
Does that make any sense
He was reported time and time again
Since nineteen sixty eight
But the system didn’t catch up with him
Until it was much too late

Can you envision
What I’m seeing
You and me
In the Caribbean
On a secluded isle
Somewhere
Just let your mind
Take you there

Sit back relax
Hear what I’m saying
As mental pictures
Start to playing
There’s nothing for you to prepare
Just let your mind take you there

And can you feel
The ocean breeze
Wrestling through
The tall palm trees
And on the beach
If you please
The whitest sand
Anyone sees

Sit back relax
Hear what I’m saying
As mental pictures
Start to playing
There’s nothing for you to prepare
Just let your mind take you there

As the breeze
Blows through your hair
And I make you very aware
Of just how much I really care
Just let your mind take you there

I’m trying to paint
A mental picture
Though champagne might work
A whole lot quicker
As for the details
I’m a stickler
And I can lay it on
A whole lot thicker

Sit back relax
Hear what I’m saying
As mental pictures
Start to playing
There’s nothing for you to prepare
Just let your mind take you there

Can you envision
What I’m seeing
You and me
In the Caribbean
On a secluded isle
Somewhere
Just let your mind
Take you there

THEY'RE NOT MUSLIMS
Cedric McClester Jul 2016
By: Cedric McClester

They **** more Muslims
Than anyone else
Which is a true indication
That they hate themselves
They claim to be Muslim
But are they in fact
When taking innocent lives
Is an un-Islamic act

Innocent blood shed
Indiscriminately
Is forbidden by the Qu’ran
And it’s plain to see
That they’re not Muslim
And that is key
Even if that’s what
They claim to be

Islamic terror
Is misuse of terms
At best it’s an error
But some plant those germs
Insisting that’s how
They should be labeled
And by so doing
Our enemies are enabled

I’ve heard it said
That ignorance Is bliss
And clearly that saying
Would apply to this
We tend to fear
That which we don’t know
And as it relates to Islam
We have a long way to go

FOR THE GOOD OF THE PARTY
Cedric McClester Jun 2016
By: Cedric McClester

For the good of the party
They need to reassess
Who’s holding the trump card
In case they haven’t guessed
The party of Lincoln and Reagan
Has become so much less
But who is nominated ultimately
Will be the final test

For the good of the party
They need to disavow
The frontrunner’s shenanigans
They need to do it now
The whole world is listening
And watching his offensive style
He alienates everyone
We’ve known it for a while

For the good of the party
They  need to call a halt
By rejecting everything he says
Succinctly his gestalt
If he’s perceived as a racist
It’s totally his fault
The whole world’s sensibility
Has come under his assault

For the good of the party
They cannot let him claim
That he’s truly one of them
Because he’s not the same
He is so objectionable
That the word I used is tame
But when we get right down to it
The party must share the blame

When it’s more than about
A club full of ****
And we run out of toe tags
Or body bags
To identify the dead
And we’ve half mast the flags
Will we face the ***** Low Down
I’m thinking Bozz Scaggs

What you gonna say then
About your right to bare arms
Have you joined the militia
Or succumb to the charms
Or an errant gun lobby
Who don’t give a care
About how many die
As if they’re unaware

Our right to live
Should trump any amendment
Because it’s real basic
And also ascendant
It makes me wonder
Why some are dependant
Upon assault weapons
Like a kind of appendage

When it’s more than about
People some might hate
Or minimalize
Like they’re second rate
I wonder what then
Will be the debate
Around sensible gun laws
See I cannot wait

Vote gun control
And there’ll be consequences
Says the NRA
Have they lost their senses
They’re threatening something
We’ve already paid
In the multiple graves
Where the dead have been laid

It would appear
That there’s an expense
For the American people
Using common sense
We need to do something
Wouldn’t you agree
About the gun violence
We too frequently see

For us to do nothing
Would be derelict
A true indication
That we must be sick
To allow gun advocates
Like the NRA
To bully us in the manner
That they do today

Are they the crazy ones?
Or is it that we
Bury our heads in the sand
And refuse to see
The handwriting that’s
Jumping off of the wall
Saying united we stand
Or divided we fall?

ORLANDO
Cedric McClester Jun 2016
By: Cedric McClester

I cling to the memory
Of our last time together
Though I can’t find the symmetry
In knowing that we’ll never
Share those precious moments
Like we did back then
Because all of that was stolen
When I lost you my friend

Orlando used to be known as
The happiest place on earth
Until forty-nine people were senselessly murdered
So how much is it worth

I cling to the memory
Because that’s all I have
And the jokes that you would tell
That always made me laugh
Tragedy does not begin
To even remotely describe
The empty feeling that I have
Because you’re not alive

Orlando used to be known as
The happiest place on earth
Until forty-nine people were senselessly murdered
So how much is it worth

Things can happen in a second
Ya see we never know
Here today is not to say
How long we have and so
Learn to cherish every moment
Because you never know

I cling to the memory
That in quiet times I review
I guess it’s elementary
How much I’m missin’ you
Hopefully I’ll recover
But it’s gonna take me time
To try to find a reason
For such a senseless crime

Orlando used to be known as
The happiest place on earth
Until forty-nine people were senselessly murdered
So how much is it worth

He’ll tell ya if you ask him
Cuz it’s a salient fact
That he voted against that ill-advised war
That we fought in Iraq
He was overjoyed
When they brought the soldiers back
And he stated for the record
That it was no way to act

And if you question him
A little closer
You’ll find that he’s a non-interventionist
Because we can’t police the world
With an iron fist
Talk with him some more
And he’ll tell you this my friend
As a policy intervention must end

We can’t continue to
Take one side in opposition to the other
And then try to broker peace
Like a well meaning brother
We deal with leaders that we hate
But our southern neighbor Cuba
We continue to isolate

Everybody’s fighting now
To be Israel’s best friend
Without being even handed in the least
Towards the Palestinian
We may share democracy
And similar self-interests
But it’s the height of hypocrisy
To feign our indifference

We can’t continue to
Take one side in opposition to the other
And then try to broker peace
Like a well meaning brother
We deal with leaders that we hate
But our southern neighbor Cuba
We continue to isolate
