IT’S A DISGRACE
Cedric McClester Nov 2018
By: Cedric McClester

It’s a disgrace
How he’ll lie
In your face
Trying to make
A case
To us and God
About
Election fraud

We know it
Doesn’t exist
Although though
He’ll insist
Despite what
He said
It’s all in
His head

No one
Realizes
People in
Disguises
Who come
In all sizes
Is where
The lie is

But he’ll
Never learn
Though he’s
Gonna burn
In the fires
Of hell
Like that angel
That fell

WAS IT SUMTHIN' I SAID?
Cedric McClester Nov 2018
I admit at times
I do get angry
And lose my temper
But there’s no need to hang me
You’ve lost yours
A time or two before
And said some things
That I chose to ignore

Was it sumthin’ I said
That got in your head
Well put that to bed
Cuz it was misread
If it was lacking in charm
It was a false alarm
I didn’t mean no harm
Cuz baby you’re the bomb

It ain’t always gonna be
Smooth sailing
But that doesn’t mean
Our relationship is failing
We have to take the bitter
With the sweet
Girl I love you
And so let me repeat

Love’s a maze
Of pathways and confusion
But don’t let that bring you to
The wrong conclusion
It’s worth all the effort
We put in
And so that begs the question
Once again

…AND UP IS DOWN
Cedric McClester Nov 2018
By: Cedric McClester

Black is white
And up is down
That kind of logic
Can be found
When your leader
Is an *** clown
The ignorance
Is that profound

Black is white
And up is down
An adjective
Becomes a noun
When all the rules
Are turned around
New York City
Is like Small Town

Black is white
And up is down
Like a man dressed
In an evening gown
Trolling for a drink
At a bar uptown
Is clearly headed
For a showdown

Black is white
And up is down
He does his best
To astound
People from Seattle
To Allen Town
Who are hypnotized
By his monotonous sound

NEW WORLD ORDER
Cedric McClester Nov 2018
By: Cedric McClester

He’s tryna bring about
A new world order
And he doesn’t want immigrants
To cross our border
Now they say his patience
Has grown so much shorter
That he’s sending down the troops
By executive order

Long-term allies
Have been placed on notice
They’ll have to anti-up
‘Long as he’s POTUS
The money we’re spending
Is his primary focus
So a new world order
Has to be his locus

The Russians used to be
Our main enemy
But not no more
As far as I can see
What their leader says
To him is the key
Though it contradicts
Our intelligence agency

He says the press
Are enemies of the people
Although they’re not
All things being equal
He serves up lies
In doses that are lethal
And leaves us all
The remnants of his *****

THE DOTS TO THE PUZZLE
Cedric McClester Nov 2018
By: Cedric McClester

There’s blood on his hands
But justice demands
Having the proof
And he’s been aloof
Those who did the deed
Have a greater need
They want to survive
To stay alive

So it’s absurd to expect
Them to connect
The dots to the puzzle
They’re sufficiently muzzled
And won’t place the blame
On Prince What’s-his-name?
Though  it’s hard to miss it
He’s clearly complicit

So the stench lingers on
The conclusion's foregone
That he placed the order
And condoned the slaughter
Of his journalistic critic
And just to be analytic
In his position
He can't stand opposition

His father is ailing
With health clearly failing
And the throne is in sight
To his son’s delight
So he’s biding his time
While hatching a crime
That’s so barbaric
The result may be pyrrhic

FEAR OF A BAD HAIR DAY
Cedric McClester Nov 2018
By: Cedric McClester

Fear of a bad hair day
Kept the President away
From a World War 1 grave site
To the Russian leader’s obvious delight
He’s a predicate recluse
Who used rain as an excuse
For not showing up
Which we must deduce

Is part of his M O
Don’t act like you don’t know
He’s a man without class
If you will, a horse’s ***
Who promotes himself
At the expense of all else
He’s a nationalist he says
So let’s keep him in our prayers

World leaders five abreast
Walked together, but take a guess
Who was not there nonetheless
Our recalcitrant President I must confess
He’s superior in his own mind
You could argue, because he’s crazy or  blind
And before he’s finally finished
In the eyes of the world, we’ll be diminished

He’s so concerned about his hair
Because he must be unaware
Most assume he wears a wig
Because his style is oh so big
And God forbid the wind might blow
Then for sure we'll see a **** show
Tryin’ to keep it all together
Especially in inclement weather

CIGARETTES 'N DEPRESSION
Cedric McClester Nov 2018
By: Cedric McClester

Smelling like cigarettes ‘n depression
I’ve written down the things I’m expressing
I’m no longer in love (learned my lesson)
No need for speculation or guessing
Cuz it’s obvious what this is about
I was in love but it didn’t work out
Now I wanna cry now I wanna shout
To stop my despair and overall doubt

I’ve earned the right to be blue
If you were me you’d be too
Now I don’t know what to do
It’s like I can’t breathe without you
But this is the point that I’m pressing
Experience taught me a lesson
Love has two sides to it’s essence
I smell like cigarettes ‘n depression

I’m not looking for sympathy
Or to have you pity me
Locked in my room confessing
All of the things I’m here stressing
Smelling like cigarettes ‘n depression
So if you could just let me be
Alone simmering in my misery
Maybe one day I'll finally be free

Like a kid I’m still an adolescent
Locked in my room confessing
All of the things I’m here stressing
Smelling like cigarettes ‘n depression
Given your past transgression
You left my heart in a total recession
And I have only one possession
My cigarettes ‘n my depression

Public People
Cedric McClester Nov 2018
By: Cedric McClester

Hard to believe
When we hear at first
Hard to conceive
Yet we have a thirst
To know the details
Tell me what’s worst
The truth of the matter
Or what’s rehearsed

Public people
Private personas
A handful know the deal
Other aren’t gonna
Secretive
Is how they live
When they perform
They give us all they have to give

When they left
We felt robbed
We lost our breath
It made us sob
Understanding death
Is so **** hard
Like grand theft
It leaves us scarred

Public people
Private personas
A handful know the deal
Other aren’t gonna
Secretive
Is how they live
When they perform
They give us all they have to give

The list of names
Run the gamut
Like someone somewhere
Must have programmed it
It’s so intense
It don’t make sense
But all their dirt will come out
In the rinse

A SONG FOR NELSON
Cedric McClester Nov 2018
By: Cedric McClester

In 1964 an indictment was lodged
Against Nelson Mandela
Accused of sabotage
Which he never denied
Or tried to camouflage
The truth of the matter is
He was guilty by and large
And locked away until he was discharged

Twenty- seven years
In a prison cell
Like Dante’s Infernal
It was like hell
All he wanted was freedom
For his native land
Where because of apartheid
Things had gotten out  of hand

There on Robben Island
Where he would be still
If not for his courage
And his indomitable will
He led a movement
That endured and prevailed
Even from a prison cell
Locked down in jail

To say he was transformative
Understates the case
A man for the ages would be better
In its place
He changed a people’s destiny
Saw apartheid get erased
As the father of his country
His name has been encased

IN A BETTER PLACE
Cedric McClester Nov 2018
By: Cedric McClester

After we take our final breath
In the end all that's left
Is the legacy that we leave
And I sincerely do believe
That my mother left a lot behind
Enough for each of us to find
Some special memory of her
A private thought if you prefer
To keep inside all. to your self
Not to be shared with no one else

But what I'm most reminded of
Is her capacity to love
She reared two children of her own
And when her children became grown
She helped to rear their children too
Not the easiest thing to do
But she did it all the same
Not stopping once to complain
About the hand that she'd been dealt
Her love for them was that heartfelt

My mother moved on as we all must
Ashes to ashes, dust to dust
For her a new life has begun
She fought the good fight and she won
My mother is with God now whom she faithfully served
To get the rest she well deserved
Her mission here has been completed
She has retired undefeated
Indeed she's in a better place
Having said that I rest my case!

It cut like
Pieces of glass
In my throat
Those words
Contained in a note
Left on the mantle place
That she wrote
And everything she said I can quote

It cut like pieces of glass
In my throat
Words she didn’t have
The nerve to emote
Things I know she knew
Would rock my boat
She left nothing to cling to
Or keep me afloat

It cut like
Pieces of glass
In my throat
Her words
Made me into
Her scapegoat
Someone who was
Merely a footnote

I can’t be
More graphic
Than that
She left me
In no time flat
And I feel used9
Just like an old doormat
And that's exactly where it’s at

Now The Beans Been Spilt
Cedric McClester Nov 2018
By: Cedric McClester

Lord forgive me
For thinking this way
But I don’t judge ‘em
For being gay
Though I know full well
What the pastor might say
Guess my Christian compassion
Is on full display

Is there any such thing
As Christian guilt?
When Mama’s at home
Knitting her Jesus quilt
In the very same house
That my daddy built
So there you have it
Now the beans been spilt

I might be out of line
For raising my voice
But I believe in a woman’s
Right of choice
Though it’s not the kind of news
That makes some rejoice
I felt I had to say it
Although my eyes are moist

Some are quick to condemn
Others to hell
But who made them the judges
How can they tell
If they’ll get to heaven
Ahead of the next
When we all are sinners
See that’s Bible Text

MUSLIMS KILLING MUSLIMS
Cedric McClester Nov 2018
By: Cedric McClester

Muslims killing Muslims
Is Scripturally banned
So who wrote the fatwa
That says that you can
**** fellow Muslims
In another’s land
Across your border
In the desert sand

Bombing the Houthis
With wild abandon
With no regards, for
What target they land on
Like a school bus
Full of small children
Won’t bring your war
To a quick end

It’s time the Saudis
Come clean and confess
Their Crown Prince
Has created a mess
I’m talking about
His highness MBS
Their rising star
Who’s clearly much less

Killing a journalist
For telling the truth
Then attempting to manipulate
The clear-cut proof
Trying to play it off
Like some sort of spoof
He must not realize
That he’s not bulletproof

CHANNELING THE BOOGEY MAN
Cedric McClester Oct 2018
By: Cedric McClester

He’s channeling the Boogey Man
While lying about the caravan
He thinks we don’t understand
That he’s hatched a ***** plan
To demonize some immigrants
Fleeing because it makes sense
To seek safety and so hence
He telling lies at their expense

Like they’ll be bringing leprosy
And Small Pox to you and me
Doctors ask, “How can that be?”
Cuz those diseases we don’t see
He likes to create fear
In people that are unaware
The kind that are easy to scare
So we’ll really have to prepare

I’ll tell you what you may not know
They’ve got a thousand miles to go
So will they make it to the show?
And will there be an overflow?
He’s playing his Mid-Term card
By sending in the National Guard
A show of force much, much too hard
That he should probably discard

If you’re born here, you’re a citizen
Which he is looking to amend
By making the Constitution bend
To his Executive Order to resend
He’s doing his best to thwart
The civic lessons we’ve been taught
Denying freedoms that we’ve long sought
If his cruel dogma is bought

Love’S Not Overrated
Cedric McClester Oct 2018
Cedric McClester

I think it’s worth stating
Love’s about communicating
Through the trials and tribulations
Not manning battle stations
If we’re looking for a perk
We must put in the work
Then love will see us through
And reward me and you

Love’s not overrated
But it can be complicated
I’m so glad we waited
For the love anticipated
And let me also state
Cuz we can both relate
It’s been well worth the wait
Our love didn’t dissipate

Despite concerns and fears
Though at times there were some tears
Just the way that it appears
Love grew stronger through the years
See it really comes to this
The rewards outweigh the risks
As long as we’re not remiss
Love will offer us its bliss

What you also need to know
Is how deep it can go
When you reap the love you sow
There’s a certain afterglow
And whatever you put in
You can take back out again
And can even multiply
When you're reaching for the sky

MASS MURDER AT A SYNAGOGUE
Cedric McClester Oct 2018
By: Cedric McClester

Mass ****** in a synagogue
Committed by an ideologue
Guess he went whole hog
Blinded by the fog
The fog of racial hatred
Released inside those clay bricks
As part of the matrix
So senseless and so baseless

And the man’s sick battle cry
Was, “All Jews must die!”
Which begs the question why?
Didn’t Nazis give that a try?
How did he figure?
And what was his trigger?
Was his hatred so much bigger?
Than the lives of Jews and ******?

And some insist having a gun
Might serve to stop someone
Who wants to ****** just for fun
And is committed to getting it done
But that’s hoping and wishing
An empty proposition
If that person’s on a mission
And killing’s their sole ambition

Those who fan the flames,
And we all know their names,
Play those hatred games
Despite contrary claims
See the proof is in the pudding
They say things that they shouldn’t
Which other people wouldn’t
And in good conscience couldn’t

DOG WHISTLE DON
Cedric McClester Oct 2018
By: Cedric McClester

Dog Whistle Don
Who was privileged born
Would that he be gone
Than we be left to morn
Another senseless death
Or comfort the bereft
Because a shooting fest
Created the distress

Dog Whistle Don
Pretends to be forlorn
When innocents are gone
And their lives are torn
From mayhem or ******
But nothing’s more absurder
Than his false sympathy
Cuz as everyone can see
He lacks true empathy

Dog whistle Don
Spouts his rhetoric
Like words tend not to stick
Or attract the sick
That no good such and such
Uses rallies as a crutch
And as long as he’s untouched
He don’t care that much

Dog Whistle Don
Was worthy of our scorn
From the day he was born
His mouth’s been a bullhorn
Inciting crowds to violence
And that the press be silenced
Because of his reliance
On mass compliance

I JUST WANNA MARRY HARRY
Cedric McClester Oct 2018
Cedric McClester

I just wanna marry Harry
There’s no need for you to parry
Or to be au-contrary
Even if you find it scary
Why make me out to be a louse
I’m tried of just keeping house
I have a right to have a spouse
A fact protest alone can’t douse

Why should you care who I do
What’s that got to do with you
I deserve the same rights too
So why not act as if you knew?
t’s not dead upon arrival
I don’t mind you quoting Bible
You can’t help from being tribal
Careful though it might be libel

So put aside your old traditions
We too have our own ambitions
It’s time for a new edition
And I don’t need your permission
I’m not stepping on your feet
Do you get fat from what I eat
It’s high time that you retreat
Who knows you too may be sweet

With opposition that’s two ******
Same *** marriage has been resisted
At all costs as you’ve insisted
Your real point - I must have missed it
Cuz you would have me to believe
That Adam was made just for Eve
But someone needs to pull your sleeve
Who do you think got with Steve

KICK IN THE GUT!
Cedric McClester Oct 2018
By: Cedric McClester

Like some kind of
Neo King Tut
They believe in him
No matter what
And it’s that belief
That has us in a rut
It’s as startling
As a kick in the gut

Like a high note
From Mariah
He’s incendiary
And lights a fire
To the delight of some
Though he’s a liar
So to put it simply
A pusillanimous pariah

And even when
He’s being nice
Certain names
He likes to mention twice
He’s as comforting
As a case of lice
On the ***** hairs
Heidi Fleiss

Don’t look for him
To bring us together
Cuz it’s not happening
Until the 12th of never
Don’t cha know that
He’s not that clever
And he’s not up
To that endeavor

ON THAT TUESDAY AFTERNOON
Cedric McClester Oct 2018
By: Cedric McClester

The sun was shining brightly
On that Tuesday afternoon
When he checked into the embassy
That would spell his doom
He was there for a marriage license
That he would never get
Because they planned to **** him
In the plan their prince has set

The doctor brought a bone saw
He was one of the fifteen
Dispatched to **** the journalist
In a plot that was obscene
They claimed it was a fist fight
That somehow went awry
Then said it was a chokehold
That made the journalist die

It was a Saudi embassy in Istanbul
Where he met his end
With his fiancé waiting outside
Left to wonder when
He’d be coming out
So their new life could begin
After waiting five hours
She could no longer pretend

That something hadn’t happened
To cause that long delay
He only wanted a license
And wasn’t planning to stay
But they had cut him to pieces
Almost as soon as he went in
Which wasn’t hard to do
When you have fifteen men

WHAT I SAID...
Cedric McClester Oct 2018
By: Cedric McClester

There’s no need
To swallow your pride
If there’s any left
Then you decide
Get up off your knees
I know you’ve tried
And always let your conscience
Be your guide

What I said
Is get up off your knees
Be a man
Is all I’m asking please
If you can’t
Then lose it in degrees
Not all at once
Cuz you want to appease

If it’s something
That you want real bad
Is it worth the pride
You thought you had
To abandon that
Would be real sad
Cuz if you don’t
I betcha you’ll be glad

Is the prize
Worth the sacrifice
If it’s not
Then take a fool’s advice
Think it over
Maybe once or twice
Before you decide
To roll the dice

No longer will we
Stay in silence
We’ve been subjected
To poverty and violence
We’re heading north
To the Mexican border
From there to America
And in that order

Thousands of us
Are on our way
Hoping for asylum
So we can stay
In the land of the brave
Home of the free
Comprised of people
Like you and me

Clearly, we’re desperate
To leave our homes
The only ones we’ve
Ever known
With our children
And our wives
Because we’re seeking
Better lives

And don’t tell us
That your border’s closed
To desperate people
When everyone knows
America takes in
The hungry and the poor
Are you now saying
Not anymore?

You made me feel
That I was unwanted
Then you moved on
Like you were undaunted
I wanna know
How come you weren’t haunted
By the thought of me
Running through the gauntlet

You made me feel
As if you didn’t care
About our relationship
Like you weren’t aware
Something was wrong
That was causing despair
And I’m being honest
With what I have to share

You made me feel
Alone and rejected
In the sense that I
Was feeling neglected
In ways, you probably
Never suspected
You made me become
Totally disaffected

You made me feel
That I didn’t deserve
The love that I wanted
That you held in reserve
Like a commodity
You had to conserve
Until that empty feeling
Touched a raw nerve

LIKE BEING IN PRISON
Cedric McClester Oct 2018
By: Cedric McClester

Like being in prison
I had nothing but time
To examine the things
That were on my mind
When I didn’t know
Just what I would find
After going through life
Practically blind

I used the time
To carefully reflect
About certain things
I didn’t suspect
Things that I badly
Needed to correct
That otherwise might have
Gone on unchecked

I once was
A paranoid schizophrenic
Full of false beliefs
That made me inauthentic
To the point where others
Came to resent it
That’s breaking news
That I don’t want printed

Like being in prison
I counted the days
That I had remaining
To change my ways
If I could get passed
My usual malaise
I knew circumspection
Often time pays

THE SAUDI CROWN PRINCE
Cedric McClester Oct 2018
By: Cedric McClester

Pardon me,
For being abrupt
The Saudi Crown Prince
Is so corrupt
That he ordered a reporter
Be chopped-up
In his embassy in Turkey
Which he covered-up

Muhammad bin Salman
Is a piece of work
But he knows how,
And whose chain to ****
The President supports him
Because he gets a perk
And corruption for both of them
Is a common quirk

Such is the arrogance
That the Prince displayed
Because he thinks the world
Will swallow his Kool Aid
He’s gonna have to lie in
The bed he’s made
And pray his ascendance to the thrown
Can be saved

The Saudis need to be
Taught a strong lesson
But this will blow over
Jared Kushner’s guessing
Because MSB and him
Think adolescent
And both of them
Have their elder’s blessing

MY BABY GOT JEALOUS
Cedric McClester Oct 2018
My baby got jealous
When I was on the phone with you
Of course, she wanted to know
Who I was talking to?
My reply was, why?
See even if you knew
The name wouldn’t ring a bell
You still wouldn’t have a clue

As soon as I hung up
She gave me the third degree
And what she wanted to know
Is who are you to me?
I danced around the question
How could I tell her?  see
I made her chalk it up
To just another mystery

Though you and I moved on
We can’t erase the past
And even though it’s gone
Some memories tend to last
We shared a lot together
A long-ago time back then
When we began to reminisce
I didn’t know when to end

After we hung up
It was plain enough for me to see
I couldn’t help but detect
A hint of jealousy
Why I’ll never know
When I think of what she means to me
Because everything we shared
Is a part of what used to be

You Call Me Ugly Names
Cedric McClester Oct 2018
By: Cedric McClester

You call me ugly names
I get your gist
And I confess, nevertheless
It’s come to this
I know what you are
You’re a misogynist
Who presses all my buttons
And gets me ******

You can bully
But you cannot cower me
I’m stronger than that
And I will always be
Someone who fights back
Cuz I don’t take no tea
For the fever
When someone’s attacking see

You do what you do
Because you’re insecure
If I let you get away with it
You’ll do it more
So let’s bring it to an end
Unless you want a war
See I don’t even know
What we’re fighting for

Go ahead now
You’ve had your say
I hope it made your day
In some small way
But keep in mind one day
You’re gonna havta pay
Maybe not this moment
But another day

I'M NOT AGAINST
Cedric McClester Oct 2018
By: Cedric McClester

I’m not against
Your full breast
Or thighs
But nothing can compare
With your pretty eyes
From everything that
I’ve been told
They’re the windows of your soul

I’m not against
Making love instead
But I‘d rather explore
What’s in your head
Despite everything
I’ve already said
There’s a time and place
For making love in bed

I’m not against
Making love at all
But where or when
Is a judgement call
And often conversation
Can enthrall
And bring on foreplay
After all

I’m not against
Creating some suspense
Against the backdrop
Of the future tense
Or setting the mood
With some incense
When the potential

HARD TO UNDERSTAND
Cedric McClester Oct 2018
By: Cedric McClester

You’re esoteric
And profound
Is it your melody
Or your sound,
That always has me
Coming around?
Rest assured
That I’m down

You’re so hard
To understand
See you perplex
The average man
I think you do it
Because you can
And I’ll forever
Be your fan

The payoff’s always
Worth the wait
I don’t know,
Can you relate?
How you keep me
In a state
Of anticipation
That you always satiate

I think about
The things we do
I enjoy
Making love to you
And I’m convinced
That you do too
While lying there
After we’re through

CATCHING UP
Cedric McClester Oct 2018
By: Cedric McClester

Called you
Hoping you’d answer the phone
But I guess nobody
Was at home
Left a message
For you anyway
Wishing you
A very pleasant day

I was hoping
To catch up with you
We have so much
Catching up to do
I’ve lost some loved ones
But I thought you knew
So tell me
What’s been happening with you

I imagine
Your kids are all grown
Probably with
Some children of their own
Are they still with you
Or have they gone
And how many wild seeds
Have they sown

It’s amazing
How time seems to fly
And what it does
To folks like you and I
The law of average
Always will apply
That every living thing
One day will die

IMA TELL THE TRUTH
Cedric McClester Oct 2018
By: Cedric McClester

Ima tell the truth
While I have this mic
We often say that we’re in love
When we’re in like
The words come out our mouths
As easily as riding a bike
And makes us feel good
Because it soothes our psych

The person we first meet
Is an ambassador
A representative of who
We thought we saw
It takes time for us to learn
A little more
To get to know the person
At their very core

Eventually we’re naked
Before the world
Every man, woman,
Child, boy or girl
It’s then that the truth
Finally will unfurl
To tell whether you have
A fake or natural pearl

I’m not here tryin’
To cause alarm
And it’s never been my purpose
To bring harm
But to be forewarned
Is to be forearmed
Because it’s so easy
For us to be charmed

EVIL IS AS EVIL DOES
Cedric McClester Oct 2018
By: Cedric McClester

Evil is as evil does
That’s the way it always was
It’s latest manifestation
Involves us a nation
As the President
Summarily divorces
Immigrants
Who joined the armed forces

They placed their lives
On the line
For the path to citizenship
They hoped to find
In this country
That they love
Now push unfortunately
Has turned to shove

Their quest for citizenship
Sadly denied
Because obviously
Somebody lied
About the promise
They cannot hide
So is it fair?
I’ll let you decide

The President
Seems to be hellbent
On promoting
His anti-immigrant sentiment
Especially if they’re
Brown or black
And that’s
An unmitigated fact

Interrogated, tortured,
Then killed
Just the way
The Saudi Prince had willed
An oppositional voice
Finally stilled
On Turkish soil
His blood was spilled

The Turks have
A surveillance tape
That would leave
Your mouth agape
The Saudi reporter
Could not escape
A sicker equivalent
Of *******

Prince Muhammad bin Salman
Hatched the plot
So ask yourself
What have we got
How can anyone
Befriend that snot?
While the bonesaw they used
Is still hot

Nine-Eleven involved
Nineteen of them
They’re the **** of the earth
Or the phlegm
We spit out our mouths
When we can
They’re worst than
The Ku Klux ****

A WOMAN'S BODY
Cedric McClester Oct 2018
By: Cedric McClester

I hope these words
Aren’t shared in vain
Like I hope you understand
Everything I’m sayin’
A woman’s body
Ain’t a man’s domain
And those who think it is
Should be ashamed

A woman’s body
Ain’t for the man’s taking
Just because his mind
Is soley on love making
Long before he finds out
What the hell is shaking
He should fall back
In case he’s mistaken

What is there about some men
That makes them assume,
They’re entitled to
What’s in a woman’s womb?
Because too much in a rush
Might be a little too soon
And that applies to Alaska
All the way to Cancun

Now’s the time to bring
This lecture to an end
Hopefully the men
Will comprehend
They’ve got to invest
To get a dividend
But they have to wait
Until the woman says when

SAUDIA ARABIA
Cedric McClester Oct 2018
By: Cedric McClester

Saudia Arabia
Protectors of the Islamic Faith
Is kingdom that’s not safe
Whose behavior makes one chafe
Under MBS it’s anybody’s guess
Who’ll be killed or at best
Locked away in a hotel
Until their wrists and ankles swell

Although the evidence is murky
In a motion that was jerky
At their embassy in Turkey
They killed Jamal Kashoggi
Before he could light a stogie
And chopped his body up
So as not to interrupt
Their plot to cover-up

How about the war in Yemen
That has no predictable ending
Seems to have ‘em hemmed in
And what they cannot hide
Is that it’s clearly genocide
Which the US is complicit in
In the name of King Salman
Look at the weapons that we send

What we can’t ignore
Are their actions we abhor
Which they must answer for
Or is it business as usuall?
Because of our refusal
To make them conform
To accepted norms
Which should set off alarms

Wish I Could Have…
Cedric McClester Oct 2018
Cedric McClester

You needed much more
Than I gave
There was nothing left
For me to save
Especially after all
That you forgave
And I’m gonna take
That to my grave

Wish I could have been
All that you needed
Even though I tried
You weren’t completed
Maybe it’s that I
Was too conceited
To see the warning signs
I should have heeded

I ignored
Everything I saw
Until we ended up
In a cold war
Things were so much
Different than before
And then you
Didn’t want me anymore

I swear I hope
That I’m makin’ sense
Delving back into my
Past tense
I guess the dirt
Comes out in the rinse
When there’s no more need
For any suspense

HE SAYS…
Cedric McClester Oct 2018
By: Cedric McClester

He says, he represents me,
But how in the world could that be?
When he’s too blind to see
That his mind needs to be free
He’s volunteering to be used
Which, is something I have refused
See, I don’t like being abused

He says, that his following
Will allow him to win
The African-Americans
But don’t believe him friends
Cuz I don’t care what he says
Ye is off of his meds
So, so much for his street creds
He might be a snitch for the Feds

He says, the man is a genius
But could he really mean this?
Ya heard? Ignorance is bliss,
Something like his wife’s first kiss
Clearly the man’s lost his mind
While seriously tryin’ to find
His stars which are unaligned
Now he’s in a hell of a bind

He says, he’ll take him on the campaign stump
Why not Kanye is a chump
To be out there Red Crossing for Trump
Who belongs in the garbage dump
That’s just my take on it, see
You can chalk that up to just me
But understanding is the key
So I wonder, if you agree?

EVERY DAY
Cedric McClester Oct 2018
By: Cedric McClester

Every day
He’s on the news
This person
That I didn’t choose
I happen not to
Share his views
No I won’t watch him
I refuse

Every day
It’s battle stations
See, we’re among
The few nations
That believes in
Isolation
And policies of
Obfuscation

Every day
We’re looking to
See what that fool
Chose to do
See he he don’t have
The slightest clue
About the things
We thought he knew

Every day
The insults fly
Never mind
The reasons why
He’ll come up with
An alibi
Or another
Outright lie

THE USUAL SUSPECTS
Cedric McClester Oct 2018
BY: Cedric McClester

I guess we can round up
The usual suspects
Elderly white men
Aren’t that complex
When it comes to muscles
That they’re trying to flex
After all they’re ones
Who write the checks

Now they even control
The Supreme Court
Because certain people
Sold them very short
The lesson learned
Is the one that was taught
You can sexually abuse women
If you don’t get caught

Now they’re cans are clinking
As they toast their beers
Celebrating their victory
And sending good cheers
To the country at large
Because there he is
Judging among judges
Or so it appears

Before the Mid-Terms
They’ve got it going on
But what if they find out
That they got it wrong?
As they continue to
Just sing their sordid song
Party before people
As we knew all along

40 WARWICK STREET
Cedric McClester Oct 2018
By: Cedric McClester

Back to the beginning
I mentally retreat
To a city called Boston
40 Warwick Street
Some memories are bitter
Some were sweet
But they equal out
On my balance sheet

Occasionally
When I chose to talk
About summers in Boston
And Winters in New York
I remember being at
My great-grandmother’s knee
In Boston, Mass
She was Granny to me

See that’s how I spent
My formative years
Between New York and Boston
Steady switching gears
A product of both cities
Or so it appears
Back when television sets
Had rabbit ears

Grammer school in New York
High school in Boston
Are some of the things
That my mind gets lost in
There’s more I could tell
About What’s In-between
That I haven’t mentioned
Like what I’ve seen

Some say this country
Is a mess,
But nothing succeeds
Like success
So how’d we get here?
Take a guess,
We’ve gone from good
To worst, no less

Once slavery was
At the core
Of what we’ve called
Our Civil War
Now racism is
At the fore
Of our current
Internecine war

Look at all the beliefs
That we abort
To get another conservative
On the high court
But we’re selling
Ourselves short
By abandoning the principles
For which we fought

Red states, blue states
Then there’s the middle
Daily the opposition
Is belittled
We’ve stood by and let
Women get diddled
Remember Rome burned down
While Nero fiddled

Life is full of twists and turns
Full of lessons we must learn
From the karma that we earn
We should know how to discern
When we’re livin’ right
Walkin’ in the day or night
Where the vampires will not bite
They’re afraid of the sunlight

Forget that old analogy
What will be don’t havta be
It’s really up to you and me
To rewrite our destiny
Though life is a mystery
Certain patterns you can see
When you follow history
Are you listenin’ to me

Listen to these words I write
No matter what your life is like
It’s like riding on a bike
Practice helps to get it right
The inclinations that you fight
Are different as day from night
But try walkin’ in the light
Where the vampires will not bite

Life is full of twists and turns
Full of lessons we must learn
From the karma that we earn
We should know how to discern
When we’re livin’ right
Walkin’ in the day or night
Where the vampires will not bite
They’re afraid of the sunlight

I PREFER THE COUNTRY
Cedric McClester Oct 2018
You could be passed out on the sidewalk
And they’d walk right over you
In the fast-paced city
That’s what people often do
They develop a demeanor
That’s hard as hell to crack
I’m glad I’m from the country
And (as a matter of fact)

You can have the city
Where the buildings reach the sky
I prefer the country
As the place to live (here’s why)
Folks ask how you’re doing
And they smile when they say hi
But in the fast-paced city
They just pass you by

You could die on the side of a freeway
And they wouldn’t notice you
Even with your motor running
For a week or two
Not so in the country
Where people tend to care
About one another
And they also are sincere

See you could have a flat
On the West Side Drive
And you’d be there for hours
Until help arrived
But in the country we don’t mind
Lending a helping hand
That’s just how we are
All across this land

I thought it would be best to end it all
So I drowned myself in alcohol
Then I took some pills and cut my wrist
But despite my best efforts (I somehow missed)
And I’m here today to tell the tale
Sometimes you succeed by having to fail
God allowed me to live a little longer
Cos what don’t **** ya only makes you stronger

I can’t say for certain what was in my head
That made me think I’d be better off dead
I don’t rightfully know where to begin
Cos it gets a little fuzzy (once depression sets in)
And you’re having thoughts of suicide
Then a voice in your head says it worth a try
God allowed me to live a little longer
Cos what don’t **** ya only makes you stronger

At times you might wanna (throw the towel in)
I’ve been there a time or two myself my friend
But it’s a terrible message for you to send
To those who love you like your next of kin
And ya wanna hear something (here’s the funny thing)
Ya never know what tomorrows gonna bring
So try to hold on just a little bit longer
Cos what don’t **** ya only makes you stronger

Because I took those pills and I cut my wrist
They made me see a psychiatrist
And it’s not as bad as you might think
Cos it’s better than (me taking another drink)
Or trying to slip off into the abyss
I tried that before I’m not cut out for this
God allowed me to live a little longer
Cos what don’t **** ya only makes you stronger

The lowest
Common denominator
For Donald Trump
Who’s an agitator
Doesn’t require
A calculator
To reveal him as
A woman hater

Now he’s attacked
Doctor Ford
Which has us all sayin,’
“Oh my Lord!”
How could he be
So untoward?
Maybe it’s just
That he’s bored

He thinks that
It’s all so unfair
What a man
Can’t do on a dare
To an unsuspecting
Lady fair
It’s a travesty
He does declare

What kind of country
Are we living in
Where a President
Can begin
To mock the real
Suffering
Of a victim
Of uncaring men

THE RULE OF JUSTICE
Cedric McClester Oct 2018
By: Cedric McClester

The rule of justice
They will abort
If they place Brett Kavanaugh
On the Supreme Court
While Ginsburg and Bryer’s
Time could be short
Kavanaugh is everything
His Conservative base sought

We can say goodbye
To Roe v Wade
If this devil’s bargain
Is finally made
Kavanaugh unfortunately
Doesn’t make the grade
He’s the President’s puppet
Whom we must forbade

Kavanaugh clearly lacks
The judicial temperament
Of those sitting Justices
Who’ve already been sent
To the highest court
In this troubled land
He’s a liar and past drunk
From what I understand

Mitch McConnell seems
In such an awful rush
That as far as he’s concerned
The FBI can just hush
Because he wants Kavanaugh
So very much
Which just goes to show us
That he’s out of touch

PERMISSION
Cedric McClester Oct 2018
By: Cedric McClester

Your lips are inviting me
To start kissing
But before I go
And exercise that ambition
I’d like to know whether
I have your permission
Before I place myself
In a bad position

I know it’s not safe
For me to assume
It’s alright to proceed
You need elbow room
To agree or not
For me to resume
Heading for the lips
I want to consume

I’m hoping you’ll submit
To my every touch
Knowing that I want you
So very much
Yet I still don’t wanna
Place myself in dutch
If I need to take
My foot off the clutch

So let me know
Right now
What’s it gonna be
Ya know I’m into you
Are you into me
Because it’s heating up
Wouldn’t you agree
Or am I gonna have to
Just wait and see?

GHOSTED
Cedric McClester Oct 2018
The love we made
That night was true
But then I upped
And ghosted you
But here’s the thing
You never knew
Was all the ****
I was going through

So please accept
My apology
For ghosting you
It was wrong, ya see
That was so,
So unlike me
To disappear
Just up and flee

You have a lot
To think about
Now that I placed
You in doubt
I should have taken
A different route
I understand
Your acting out

Now I don’t know
What I can say
To make you feel
Some other way
In time, I hope
We’ll be okay
Even if
We’re not today

PRODIGAL SON
Cedric McClester Sep 2018
By: Cedric McClester

Kanye West is
Is like the prodigal son
Who ran away from home
And stayed on the run
I’ve lost count of what
He’s.said and done
And the hat he wears
Is worst than a bad pun

I think about all of those
That he’s offended
He says the 13th Amendment
Needs to be rescinded
The one that caused slavery
To be upended
Does he really want slavery,
To be extended?

I know he thinks
That slavery was a choice
Because that’s the same notion
That he lent his voice
Causing all his enemies
To rejoice
As he rides around Hollywood
In a new Rolls Royce

Kanye clearly is
A **** disgrace
And if given the chance
I’d say it to his face
I know he’s bi-polar
And that being the case
The stupid things he says
Should never be embraced

I DIDN’T TALK ABOUT IT
Cedric McClester Sep 2018
By: Cedric McClester

I didn’t talk
About it for years
Brushed aside
Intermittent tears
Did my best
To allay my fears
But I’m sharing now
So here it is

Though you might not
Have guessed it
I was often times
Molested
It’s only now
That I’ve confessed it
From a very early age
Through my adolescent stage

See it’s difficult
To begin
Letting out
What I’ve held in
About how I’ve
Experienced men
But I want to
Now that I can

It’s only now
I realize
That although
I was victimized
And the memory
Never dies
I survived
To became wise
