Fly
Amber's glow sits low on the horizon
lends a golden aura to the fowl
that sits basking on the wall
lone cat prowling through wet grass
nose shining as it does its feline dance
winter tiptoes quietly into my room
and breathes cold air onto warm skin
and as hatchlings take flight
I crawl from my nest and get dressed
step into my shoes and jump...
Sink or swim. Fall or fly.

The sky's a blanket of black
Sleeping rooftops smudged
with purple ink and shadow
Yellow the colour of
Well matured cheese
Sits just above the horizon
Stealing light
From pinpricks in the night
What we call stars are
Portals through to heaven
Light passing through the sieve
That separates universes.

Egg
Shifting perspectives
7cm from dying
Quivers as it quavers
7seconds
From flying
Sorry where were you
When I was trying to
Fry that perfect egg?

I spy with my little eye
Some something..
It flickered by me
Like a butterfly on acid
All fluttery and buttery
Slip sliding away
Not sure what I saw
But it left me with
The feeling that
Everything is transitory
Ravens wings couldn't
Be more beautiful
Than what it was that
Just flew by
Drew my attention
And then it was gone
Quick as jam and scone
To a hungry man
Next time I will have
My net on the table
And I will catch it
Before it's able to
Fly away
Scrutinize it's wings
And see if it sings
Won't cage it I promise
But I will catch it
And let it go again
For the sake of curiosity.

Her lonely self
Has some secrets
On the shelf
She dusts away
The cobwebs
And mutters underbreath
Something about
Life and death
I strain my ears
To listen
She cries some tears
That glisten
In the morning sun
It's an old song
Repeatedly sung
It's hers yours mine
The passage of time
Will erase the words
But the tune
stays the same
It's an old game
The players change
But the rules they
Will remain.

The day has just begun
And a little black bird
Says watch out for the sun
It is late afternoon
And a bright little bird
Says watch out for the moon
Day and night I watch and wait
What am I watching for?
In the safety of my room
I lie in limbo
Safe from everything
Except myself.
Where’s that little bird now?
Can’t hear anything from
Under my blanket.
