Two souls entwined across the years,
Their smiles outweigh the count of tears,
Their strength combined against their fears,
Til doubt forever disappears.

Two lives now joined against it all,
Their hearts responding to love's call,
Though often backed against the wall,
They stand as one and never fall.

Two hands now linked for all to see,
To stand as one eternally,
Their shadows dance in ecstasy,
Towards the light of destiny.
Dedicated to Sarah and Chris on their special day

A chorus less a single voice,
an angel taken from our lives,
her song cut short without a choice,
these thoughts of her all that survives,

An empty space where once was light,
a hole that cannot be refilled,
that spark put out without a fight,
a life that we must now rebuild,

a treasure lost but for her worth,
a soul reclaimed before her time,
to rest in peace within the earth,
to sleep and dream that life sublime.

He looked back on the past,
To all those years so far behind,
Back to those distant memories of dreams he’d one day find.

He reached back to the past,
To where the future still seemed bright,
Back to those long lost fantasies that all would be alright.

He knows back in the past,
In those young and simple days,
That if all had been much clearer they could have changed their ways.

He thought back in the past,
In that one-time family home,
That all would be so perfect even though they had to roam.

He screams back at the past,
For all the hell he has been through,
The hardships he has suffered far from all that he once knew.

He smiles back at the past,
For all the years that have since passed,
The bad times he survived and the good not soon surpassed.

He turns back from the past,
To this life he has since built,
This state of mind he lives in free from pain and without guilt.

He walks back from the past,
To this place where he touched ground,
This land of new beginnings where true happiness was found.

His eyes will take your breath away,
They'll beg you to give in and play,
To come with him to worlds unknown,
For pleasure like you've not been shown.

His voice will melt your frozen heart,
Then rip all arguments apart,
To force your will to bend and break,
And give him all that he can take.

His kiss will drain your soul bone dry,
Consuming every truth and lie,
Absorbing all your fear and pain,
To set your true self free again.

His skin will burn your gentle touch,
And drive you wild each time you clutch,
Enslaving you to his commands,
To give in to all he demands.

As I lay down in my bed,
My thoughts begin to roam my head,
And as I think things through and through,
All I can think of is YOU,
Once that thought is on my mind,
I leave this troubled world behind,
And travel to a wondrous place,
Far above the Human Race,

For in this place my heart is free,
To state my claim of love to thee,
So if you feel the same way too,
And if your claim of love is true,
Then I will see you in that place,
Far above the Human Race,

And in this place, I do declare,
Our souls will make the perfect pair,
Our love, the fruit of ancient myth,
It’s you to whom my heart is with,
I wish that we were in that place,
Far above the Human Race,

I’ve sat and thought for hours on end,
To find an answer, I intend,
I search my mind over again,
To pry this answer from its den,
A single question, yet to ask,
To find the answer, is your task,
What is name of this place,
So far above the Human Race?

Tell me that all hope is gone,
Show me that I have no one,

Chain and lock my body here,
Torture me with hate and fear,

Break my mind to gain control,
Take my heart to reach my soul,

Though you may take all I feel,
Never will you make this real,

Safe beyond all mortal pain,
In the end this love will reign.

Tell me what it is to see,
all that I wish that I could be,
more than my own short history,
all that is in my destiny.

Show me what it is to feel,
what I think can never heal,
more than I want to reveal,
all that which is far too real,

Give me what I need to learn,
all that for which I still yearn,
more than time can take in turn,
all that can stop my crash and burn,

Take me where I want to go,
far from all this to and fro,
more than my eyes can dare to show,
all that my soul can bear to know.

We walk,
We run,
We beautify,
We cannot help but strive to fly.

We laugh,
we smile,
We mystify,
We cannot help but live a lie.

We dream,
We talk,
We justify,
We cannot help but reason why.

Heroes, we were born to be,
Seeking out our destiny,
Striving for a better life,
Free from pain, disease and strife,

Heroes, we were meant to be,
Known for all eternity,
Searching for what none have found,
All across this ancient ground,

Heroes, we could never be,
Slaves to our mortality,
Reaching for the stars in vain,
All our tears lost in the rain.

These shades of long forgotten dreams,
in memories long ripped at the seams,

Through dormant thoughts within my mind,
of friendships lost and left behind,

As life brings ever newer starts,
we must in time reveal our hearts.

Love is not a shade of skin,
Nor can it ever be a sin,
It has no form nor written guide,
But comes instead from deep inside.

Love is not just man and wife,
Nor can it spoil or end a life,
It has no hate nor prejudice,
The simplest soul will know of this.

Love is not defined by ***,
Nor are its needs quite so complex,
It is a force beyond compare,
A gift for all who can but dare.

Love is not all that we see,
Nor is it just a fantasy,
It is the heart in all our kind,
Just waiting there for us to find.

Truth is often far from sight,
Truth is seldom without blight,
Truth is in the dark of night,
Truth is in the hand of right,
Truth is that most noble Knight,
Truth is that which drives their fight,
Truth is all that brings us light,
Truth is all that gives us flight.

Born the same yet different,
Twin peas from distant pods,
Thoughts so loud yet reticent,
Two minds always at odds.

Stars in skies so different,
Twin moons light years apart,
Siblings without a parent,
Two souls joined from the start.

Walking roads so different,
Twin paths that never met,
Journeys far from innocent,
Two hearts scarred with regret.

Dreams and goals still different,
Twin lands the gods beset,
Lovers with no precedent,
Two fates as yet unset.

You are my one believer,
True love that cannot fail,
Forever here beside me,
Through every storm we sail.

We’ve never had it easy,
So seldom cut a break,
Forever chasing shadows,
For dreams we hope will take.

The road gets ever harder,
Each battle barely won,
Forever forging forward,
Just like we’ve always done.

You know my darkest secrets,
And keep me going strong,
Forever standing by me,
Through all that I’ve done wrong.

We’ve never fought or argued,
Both know just how that goes,
Forever growing stronger,
Through love that ever shows.

The road seems ever longer,
Each step an uphill climb,
Forever moving forward,
Just waiting for our time.

Despite the path that she now walks,
She still can feel the moon's embrace,
Through dreams her mind forever stalks,
In search of her forgotten race.

Despite the years that have gone by,
She still can hear the hunter's call,
His song a dark and loving cry,
To join him where the shadows fall.

Despite the pain that she has felt,
She still can sense the beast within,
Beyond the hand she has been dealt,
This force that tempts her heart to sin.

Despite the things that she has seen,
She still can find the magick trail,
Through all the places she has been,
Back to that world beyond the veil.

We’ve known each other half our lives,
Through sunny day and winter chill,
So much has changed since we were young,
Except our love which never will.

We’ve shared this road for half our lives,
Through cheery smile and sorrowed tear,
So much we’ve seen along the way,
Yet we stay strong through each new year.

We’ve been entwined for half our lives,
Through happiness and tragedy,
So much has been in our shared time,
But through it all we’re meant to be.

More precious than the rarest stone,
more sacred than an ancient throne,
the way to light from dark you've shown,
a place of love as yet unknown.

More lovely than an open rose,
more radiant than a star that glows,
if nothing more this life now shows,
each day this love we share still grows.

More needed than the air i breathe,
more special than you can believe,
through all the pain the gods conceive,
my heart is yours- with no reprieve.

We may not be conventional,
We may not wine and dine,
We may not go for moonlit walks,
But love for us will shine.

We may not be extravagant,
We may not send a rose,
We may not exchange chocolate,
But love for us still grows.

We may not be traditional,
We may not share world view,
We may not celebrate today,
But love for us is true.

Love is made but can't be bought,
Love is learned but can't be taught,

Love is life that cannot die,
Love is truth and cannot lie,

Love is how our hearts are freed,
Love is all we'll ever need.

Happy Valentine's Day!

A heart that loves beyond all doubt,
A symbol of what life’s about,
You are the better half of me,
The proof that we were meant to be.

A saviour in my darkest day,
A soul to help me on my way,
You are my angel in the night,
Forever guiding with your light.

A warm embrace to end each day,
A kiss to hold the pain at bay,
You are all I could ever need,
The suture to the ink I bleed.

A seed grown from the wars of love,
A sacred gift sent from above,
You are my precious Tudor rose,
How I deserve you no one knows.
Arik Fletcher Feb 2013
You fill my days with hope and light,
You keep my love always in sight,
You hold me close throughout the night,
You help me bear life’s weary fight.

You guide me in your special way,
You heal me with the words you say,
You save me from myself each day,
You prove that true love cannot stray.

You play the music of my heart,
You paint my soul’s immortal art,
You know our paths could never part,
You were the one right from the start.

HAPPY VALENTINE’S DAY, EVERYONE!

on cold, dark nights, he can be found,
hid from the lights, upon the ground,

with blood-shot eyes he stalks his prey,
no worldly-ties, no words to say,

his soul is locked beneath the soil,
his body trapped in endless toil,

he hungers for another life,
a chance to end his bitter strife,

alas he must, and always shall,
remain a slave, an immor-tal,

his lust to ****, to drink the life,
with fangs that shame a hunter's knife,

this want and need have all control,
and keep him from his mortal soul,

a slave to blood, to evil needs,
deprived of love, and all good deeds.

The warrior is powerful,
The warrior is strong,
The warrior does not give up,
The warrior fights on.

Though chaos reigns around her,
She will not fall to tears,
No matter what the circumstance,
She'll face up to her fears.

The warrior is confident,
The warrior is true,
The warrior will stand her ground,
The warrior lives through.

Regardless what the odds may be
She always shall prevail,
No matter what the consequence,
She'll strive and never fail.

The warrior is adamant,
The warrior is proud,
The warrior will show no doubt,
The warrior roars loud.

Whatever fate declares to be,
She will not lose her way,
No matter what the happenstance,
She'll live to seize the day.

Shadows of forgotten times,
silent thoughts in sacred minds,

Happy moments brief in time,
hours lost in dreams sublime,

Shadows taint the hallowed ground,
loved ones lost and never found,

Hopeless dreams in darkness dwell,
soon to leave this mortal shell.

Words are very powerful,
This cannot be denied,
Once spoken they are tangible,
And can never be decried.

Words are like the stars above,
Uncountable and vast,
Once given out in hate or love,
Their light is ever cast.

Words are born from fantasy,
They come from deep inside,
Once written they are history,
And never more can hide.

Words are far from innocent,
Though we may claim they are,
Once shared they may be reticent,
But still can leave a scar.

Words are more than poetry,
Well crafted they might be,
Once heard they gain autonomy,
And stand for all to see.

Words are all our destiny,
When all of this is through,
Once carved into posterity,
To live on after you.

Deep within this heart of mine,
drowning in the sands of time,
searching for a sacred sign,
dreaming of a world sublime.

Deep within the heart of me,
thoughts i cannot truly see,
dreams that cannot ever be,
chains that will not set me free.

Deep within this heart of mine,
wising i could draw the line,
tiring of the endless climb,
crying for the final time.

Stay calm and safe and in my sight,
You cannot leave my side tonight,
For without you I have no hope,
And here alone I cannot cope.

Stay soft and warm and in my heart,
We cannot fall or drift apart,
For without you there is no me,
And nothing left for us to be.

Stay young and strong and ever bright,
I cannot live without your light,
For without you there is no home,
And ever more my heart will roam.
Arik Fletcher Feb 2010
Let me show you what i see,
each time I put a verse to rhyme,
all that i feel, and think and do,
is written here, safe for all time.

Let me take you to the edge,
right to the end of every line,
a place where pain and pleasure meet,
a place where thoughts and dreams combine.

Let me build a world for you,
from all that I have felt and done,
my secret wants, my deadly sins,
the web of truth and lies unspun.

Let me tell you who i am,
the boy i was, the man i'll be,
the truth is here, no lie or sham,
within these words you will find me.

This cloud of words hangs over me,
Each one a bitter memory,
Their dark embrace all I can see,
A cold unbroken symphony.

This sea of words that swallows me,
Each one a glimpse of destiny,
Their venom-soaked monotony,
Repeating for eternity.

This swarm of words engulfs my soul,
Each one a sting of lost control,
Their poisoned blades on dark patrol,
Collecting on their ****** toll.

This web of words within my mind,
Each one a glimpse of days behind,
Their light not for one of my kind.
A happiness I'll never find.

This storm of words from dreams unknown,
Each one a love where hate has grown,
Their force and wrath so quickly shown,
Will leave me some day on my own.
Arik Fletcher Sep 2010
Now and then I wonder what,
Each race has fought to keep forgot,

Karma waits but always wins,
A punishment for all our sins,

Truth is we could fight no more,
United we could end all war.

Provided we can all be true,
Of this you must believe in too,

Else all of this we surely ****,
These lives we live naught but a sham,

Redemption waiting at a glance,
Yet each of us must take this chance.

I see a child- so safe and sound,
with friends and family gathered round,
no worries for the life ahead,
no monsters underneath the bed.

I see a house where youth was spent,
a garden where the dog was sent,
a street where children laughed all day,
a school yard where they used to play.

I see a birthday- cake and all,
an accidental trip and fall,
a mother hugs the hurt away,
her kiss means more than words can say.

I see a car that travelled well,
the distance one could never tell,
a happiness in every face,
no need to rush nor up the pace.

I see a dance, a first love's kiss,
a time of hope and total bliss,
a child growing to a man,
a future set out to a plan.

I see a man, his glowing bride,
their families so full of pride,
so many friends are gathered 'round,
nothing but love and laughther found.

I see another place called home,
another child not yet grown,
another street where children play,
another life begins today.

my journey shown within these scenes,
my youth now lost but in these dreams,
the pictures end, the pages fold,
I close the book, this chapter told.

The world has been infected,
and we are all to blame,
our silence a condition,
obedience our shame.

Our species is a parasite,
a plague upon these lands,
our greed and our ambition,
like blood upon our hands.

When all of this is over,
if we run out of time,
the future will not wait for us,
the past will be our crime.

The world is now neglected,
and we must face the flame,
inaction is our legacy,
complacency our game.

There has to be a reckoning,
there needs to be a change,
a time for something different,
the chance to rearrange.

If life is meant for all of us,
if hope still has a chance,
we have to break the pattern,
and learn a different dance.

The world can be corrected,
despite what some may claim,
we have to take this moment,
and never be the same.
Arik Fletcher Jun 2010
Anger, rage, and hate unbound,
forgotten souls who fill the ground,
As from his throne the dark one feasts,
upon his people turned to beasts.

Land of my heart, land of my soul,
Land of my blood, land of my whole,
This sacred and most ancient soil,
cursed by greed and dark turmoil.

Taken from these blood red sands,
lost to far and distant lands,
ever more my soul shall roam,
until again I find my home.
Credit to my brother on this one as he wrote the original verse that this poem is based on. We dedicate this to all Zimbabweans in diaspora who are waiting to return home, and to those at home waiting for peace to come.
