It's a jewel more precious and rare than anything that ever touched our lives; but we seem to forget how deadly it is.

And we're inhabiting each moment with wordful waste; a person loses their time st every tick of the clockwork time instrument.

Not angry.
Not sad.
Not broken
Not depressed.
Not upset.
Not even jealous.
I thought I was at first, but I don’t think I am
Because I really meant what I said
Reading that text made me smile

Wake up, unplug the clock.
Get up too late,
skip a meal and hurry to leave.

A disappointed lecture,
a promise to do better.
Flip through the papers, forehead meets desk.

Leave for lunch.
Order nothing.
Stare at the blank wall with shadowy corners.

More papers, more flipping,
more disappointment.
Grab the keys, start the car, sigh to the empty seats.

Return to the empty room,
smile to no one, pretend to be happy.
Alone, go to bed, the cold blankets don't embrace like a lover.

Rewind and repeat this lugubrious existence.

People assume I'm just black.
One drop rule, I suppose.
I guess I'm a black girl with a Starbucks addiction.

I'm tired of being told
To pick a side
To choose a race
Lest it be chosen by archaic values

I'll not be told I'm ''acting black''
Or that I'm an ''Oreo''
For being my mixed bag self
So I'll start a new race

Race is defined by ******* predetermined factors
But my race will be awesome
It won't be exclusive to
Skin colour
Hair texture
Language
Or eyes
Not the Canadian Race (working title)
