Our children
Shadow Jun 2020
The worst thing about our children is that they will be like us.
They will have a childhood with sweet memories,
They will have hopes,
They will dream,
They will strive to be better people,
They will love,
They will imagine a better tomorrow,
They will want justice,
They will want peace,
They will want respect,
They will want comfort,
They will work hard,
They will be disappointed,
They will rise back up when they fall,
They will be like us...

The smoke I am lost in
Shadow Mar 2020
I have lost all of myself
I seem not to know me wholly
I feel grinded ,smashed with
a hammer ,I feel stuck between
two mountains ready to conjoin
I have lost love of nature, love of
the flowing rivers, love of stars
glowing a million light years afar
I have lost the common feel of
Spring and it's sweet scent flowers
I feel as useless as a stone
I feel like a music with out a tone
I have lost my way, I have lost my
slay , I feel like a flawless knight
I feel like a night stripped from it's
stars, I feel like a day with out a light
I have lost the feel of my beloved
I have lost the way to the lips of my
Beloved, I have lost her touch
It feels now like a touch of chill
I have lost the ecstasy in her
I have lost my soul, I have lost my
Flaw, in this punitive , this pang
This Agony, I drink them like ale and
Be weary and drunk in these dreary
Times, and find pleasures in the
Wonders of my illusions.

Shadow Jun 2020
Get yourself back together,
Look at what you've become!
You're bound by your own tether,
Break out, embrace the freedom!
Perhaps it's time I make a change, firstly - I need to forget.

Too Simple
Shadow Mar 2020
It is too simple
to pet a stray dog
then watch it run under a car
and say it wasn't mine

It is too simple
to admire a rose
then pick it and forget
to put water in the vase

It is too simple
to use a person
for loving without love
then leave him standing alone
and say I don't know him
anymore

It is too simple
to know one's flaws
then live them at great cost to others
and say that's just the way I am

It is too simple
the way we sometimes live our lives
for after all life simply is
a serious matter

The old house
Shadow Apr 2020
Broken and abandoned,
The house has stood empty
Between woods and meadow
For twenty years.
From the side yards
Vines cover the shattered windows
And sagging porches.
Within, the house is empty,
Yet not.
Dust, filled with ghosts,
Creeps and roams in corners,
Then settles.
Lost in memory,
Bedrooms, kitchen, parlor,
Wait in silent reflection
Before gathering garlands of twilight.
In the attic,
Threads which once were curtains,
Sway on the dirge of a breeze.
Within the gate
Grass rolls like so much
Green fire.
Shingle by grey-weathered shingle,
Dreams gather
In once loved rooms
As the sun sets.

To childhood
Shadow Jul 2020
I miss sleeping on the rooftop of grandma's house and lying down under the clear night sky,
I would stare at the shy moon and she would sometimes stare back.
I remember the stars winking at me,
The cool breeze would caress my face until I was asleep,
The crickets would sing their lullabies,
And my mother and aunts would chatter the night away.

I remember how happy everyone were,
I remember days where worries wouldn't plague our minds,
I remember their simple smiles,
Their resonant laughs,
I remember those simple days,
I remember you...
To where did you run away?
Who took you and left dismay?

The tick tock of the clock,
voices,
the sound of the dancing pen
resounds in my head.

what am I doing?
what am I to do?
on this lonely night
with this blue hue.

everyone is silent
the world is asleep
yet my moments are escaping
like sand held in hand.

Time has stopped
yet the clock still ticks
my patience is gone,
yet still, I have to carry on.

To fight till last with no tomorrow's store,
They bicker loud and bite amongst themselves
And chew upon the papered spoils of war.
The panic breeds! A newer virus spawns:
Contagious fear, no mask could filter out
And sends them running fierce; it's frantic pawns,
'Till barest bares the shame to linger 'bout.
As paper, food depletes it's end of day;
Disgruntled many leave and wane their shop
With curse upon their lips, here not to say!
Then back again new beasts that cannot stop.

Yes I proclaim here's me: oh the wiser!
'Wait, No! Hands off, that's my sanitiser!"

Shadow May 2020
The days are grey,
The nights are long,
and filled with the anxieties of the days to come.
The morning passes in a sigh,
and the night takes an eternity to end.

The morning birds no longer chirp,
The night stars no longer glimmer,
The days are monotonous,
And my life...
Is filled with despair.

Shadow Apr 2020
caustic ways to pilfer life
the sordid use of imagination

season of the sickened mind
grotesque subliminal permeation

reaching onward to spectral hands
the lure of purgatory settles in
Shadow Mar 2020
if it doesn't come bursting out of you
in spite of everything,
don't do it.
unless it comes unasked out of your
heart and your mind and your mouth
and your gut,
don't do it.
if you have to sit for hours
staring at your computer screen
or hunched over your
typewriter
searching for words,
don't do it.
if you're doing it for money or
fame,
don't do it.
if you're doing it because you want
women in your bed,
don't do it.
if you have to sit there and
rewrite it again and again,
don't do it.
if it's hard work just thinking about doing it,
don't do it.
if you're trying to write like somebody
else,
forget about it.
if you have to wait for it to roar out of
you,
then wait patiently.
if it never does roar out of you,
do something else.

if you first have to read it to your wife
or your girlfriend or your boyfriend
or your parents or to anybody at all,
you're not ready.

don't be like so many writers,
don't be like so many thousands of
people who call themselves writers,
don't be dull and boring and
pretentious, don't be consumed with self-
love.
the libraries of the world have
yawned themselves to
sleep
over your kind.
don't add to that.
don't do it.
unless it comes out of
your soul like a rocket,
unless being still would
drive you to madness or
suicide or ******,
don't do it.
unless the sun inside you is
burning your gut,
don't do it.

when it is truly time,
and if you have been chosen,
it will do it by
itself and it will keep on doing it
until you die or it dies in you.

there is no other way.

and there never was.

the moon's Jealousy
Shadow Dec 2019
'Twas on a starry night,
She was sitting by the pond
brushing Her hair in delight
the galaxies were of Her beauty fond,

but jealousy was the moon's
for she could not bear Her sight,
Her halo of charm, Her amazing calm,
Her radiance and diamond eyes,
Her rose red lips, Her elegant dress
woven with vivid dyes.
those were what made moon mad
and she was also rather sad
her place was taken after all
she could do nothing but await Her fall.

So our jealous moon devised a plan
a plan more wicked than anyone can!
she hid in the pond and snatched my love
took Her away to the world above,
went around the stars and then the sun
and left Her there for Her time to come.

But the sun saw sadness sealed in my lover's eyes
so he flew as fast as any star flies,
he knocked on the moon's palace gates
and told her that God decides our fates;
she had no right to take Her away!
so the moon, ashamed , befell his sway.

So she returned my love with sorrow
and flew away for a better morrow.
this is my first attempt at writing a story-like poem so please let me know what you think :)

Shadow May 2020
He who says I love you
is a mournful minstrel
who has lost his song.

If only love
                         had a tongue to speak.

A thousand happy larks
fly in your eyes,
a thousand canaries
fall silent in my throat.

If only love
                             had a tongue to speak.

He who says I love you
is the night’s blue heart
searching for moonlight.

If only love
                          had a tongue to speak.

A thousand laughing suns
in your footsteps,
a thousand weeping stars
in my desire.

If only love could speak.

I feel like writing and so I must,
I will write this poem at any cost,
Be it from my final breath,
before the moment I'll kiss death,

I will utter these very words,
Oh my lonely little bird,
you're finally free to fly away,
now that I am old and grey,

my final breath shall give you life,
a life free of all strife,
so spread your wings and fly away,
and begin life on a day.
that day my soul shall be free

When you were beautiful
Shadow Jul 2020
Oh how beautiful it was to walk through the leaves of the sun.
Oh how beautiful it was to learn it was possible to love you.
Oh how beautiful it was to watch you form into someone you're not.
Oh how beautiful it was to watch you see nothing but love inside me.
Oh how beautiful it was to live in the days you still believed in me.
Oh how I wish I could come back to those days.
Oh how I wish I could crawl back to the you I once loved.
Oh how I wish I could just travel back in time, to save myself.
Shadow May 2020
What more is there to say
When your hopes crashed at bay?
When you're as somber as a cloudy night?
When your worries drown you in fright?

What more is there to say
When your friends are fading away?
When your life's monotone?
and your cover's all but blown?
When you can no longer smile?
When your eyes are screaming pain?
And all your efforts are in vain...
Sorry this poem isn't really up to standard, I've been very blue lately.

All these dreams.
Making me bust at the seams.
Feeling like life is new.
Thinking that I finally grew.
Walking along the fields.
Learning how to form my shields.
Trees standing taller than I.
Having my friends stand by.
Rekindling old friendships.
Getting away from the hardships.
The longer you are away.
The easier I find it is to play.
Being myself, doing me.
I'm joyous for all to see.
Before, after
Smiles, laughter.
Class no longer in session.
I am no longer the possesion.
Sleeping alone at nights.
See more beautiful sights.
Awake to freedom.
Running through my reclaimed kingdom.
Off to do as I see fit.
Nowhere for you to sit.

My tears are stopped by my eyelids
My sadness resides in my heavy heart

Tonight I can not sleep
All of my thoughts are of tomorrow
My existence is filled with your desires
Time is asleep and awake
in the night's embrace

The air is still,
The night is silent,
The gates to the skies are open,
My imagination flies like wild birds in the sky

It takes me where the moon is singing,
To the place where stars light the torches of castles,
To the place where monks build monasteries,
To the place where, behind the curtains, they bring the daughter of morrow's sun.

This tomorrow is a dreamy charm,
This tomorrow which won't let me sleep,
This tomorrow which is seen on the curtain of my notions,
This tomorrow when we'll meet,
This is the tomorrow of hugs and caresses
This tomorrow, this tomorrow

Live for yourself
Shadow Jul 2020
Don't let any one tell you who you should be in life.
Follow your heart.
Follow your soul.
Follow that remaining bit of you that makes you you.
Don't fall down to anyone who talks you down.
Whether it's your ugliness and imperfections.
Whether it's your weird behavior that we all have deep down, even them.
Whether it's your endless mistakes you never meant to make.
You're perfect when you're you.
You're perfect when you're you.
You're perfect when you're you.
Don't let anyone take control of your life and attitude.
Whether it's the church.
Whether it's the school.
Whether it's your own family, whether it's your own struggles.
Whether it's your fake voice everyone tells you to have.
Nobody hates you more than when you're being yourself.
Nobody loves you more than when you're being yourself.
The gods will sometimes put a test on trying to stop your soul to roam free.
You can do it.
And you will do it.
After it all, you will look at yourself in heaven in the end.
Just as you were born to.
Always live for yourself
Always listen to your soul

Only a friend understands,

Only a friend will cry with you,
When you're hurting deep inside,
Only a friend will secure a secret,
That you prefer to hide.

If the sun didn't rise in the morning,
And black clouds covered above,
Only a friend would turn the sky to blue,
With warm words and a show of love.

Only a friend will stand beside you,
Even though you're miles away,
Only a friend can make you smile,
To help you through the day.

Only a friend will take the time,
To listen to what's been said,
Or place themselves in front of you,
If you fear what lies ahead.

Only a friend will do all this,
In their heart there's a message they send,
I'll always be here when you need me,
Because you "You're my friend."
This is for all my friends :)

The moon holds me in her embrace
And lulls me with her golden grace

No more did the birds flee in fright

The end of a sombre chapter

Shadow Jul 2020
When you're feeling low.
The gods will give you a second chance at life, sometimes.
It's all in you to go find it.
You might find it in a paper cup.
In a bowl of soup.
In a can of sardines.
In a broken treebrach.
On the internet somewhere.
Sometimes in yourself.
When you're feeling low.
The gods will give you a second chance at life, sometimes.
Sometimes you cant find it anywhere.
People will talk down on you.
Only if you really find it.
People will talk down on you.
But if you follow the truth.
It all won't matter in the end.
It's better than not finding the truth.
And not be ridiculed at all.
As these regards last longer than life.
Come on, let the world see your beautiful smile :)

The sound of the clicking;

The smoke goes up, up, up,
The coal goes down, down, down:
Until it reaches, the ground.

The children play around, the hot, burning fire,
Reading and enjoying themselves.

The fire warmth stays in the room,
And the burnt coal goes up the chimney,
Into the cold, black night.
No light in the living room,
Just, the fire in the north wall;
With it's heat flowing to me,
Keeping me warm this dark, winter night.

But darling,
If you want me to say I love you
All you would hear is silence.
I would never go to you
And tell you i need you.
I dont want to be in the same room with you,
Because then i would be blind
And could only see you.
I dont want to stand next to you,
For i might die of holding my breath
So you can't hear the loud beating in my heart.
