grow on, little flower
blossom like the rose
dance with darling daffodils
For soon I'll hold you close

take your tea with tulips
learn of lilies, too
remember to forget-me-not
For I remember you

grow on, little flower
take your time to bloom
I'll pick you when you're ready
And not a day too soon
Frustrating when you're the flower
Frustrating when you're waiting
Rewarding either way

A little battered, a little worn
A little stained, a little torn.
Bits of sweat and blood and tears
Stretched from sleep throughout the years.

It isn't much, but it's like me
Filled with care and memories
The white no longer holds it's glow
But it's still warm and soft and so
If you need my sweater,
I'll give it happily.
I know you'll wear it better
And with you I will be.

I bought myself a little cell
They promised comfort, peace.
Once upon a time I felt,
I had overstayed my lease.

Outside that room was scary.
Too many things to choose,
Too many thoughts to think,
Too many wrongs to do.

So I crawled back to my little cell,
I shut the door real tight.
Trying to make sure I couldn't even see the light

I know my cell,
I'm safe in my cell,
I like my cell

But now I'm trapped inside
Because I chose to hide.

A word without a syllable
A poem without a word
A note without a sound
A song without a note
A taste without stimulus
A color without sight
A scent without memory
A dream without desire
A life without love
A me without you

When I see you,
my soul! It soars!

I'm not allowed to fly.

And then I fall.
And the earth is cold.
(It's far from the sun)
The wind is a cage.
The ground is no fun.

When I see you,
my heart-it aches,
my breath? you take,
my mind forsakes,
and my soul breaks.

When you look at me,
I see that yours do too.

Us two were lovers in a time long past,
You greeted me each day with cool embrace.
Until I found another's lips to taste.
I thought the time I shared with her would last
And within my heart, she is unsurpassed.
Enamored by the beauty of her grace,
Her kindness, virtue, and her lovely face.
She loves me, yet too much of her I asked.
And now, Lady Sorrow, we'll walk once more.
I'll welcome you in heart as dearest friend.
I pledge my love more truly than before.
With thee and only thee my time I'll spend,
No longer caring for what lies in store.
Thy company I'll keep until the end.
Sonnet #9
James LR Dec 2017
Falling from on high
in every shape and size
Fair and powd'ry  white
melting before your eyes

Tumbling, tossed
Weightless and free
Nothing is more unique
Nothing matters less,
than us. Than snowflakes.
Written as I watched the first snow tumbling past my windows
