Superstition
There's something to be said for superstition,

It never seems to let you down,

Now it's to the point,

I wont even pass my cat,

She did nothing wrong,

But her label is bad.

Love, your body entrances,
Will you dance with me?

Asleep With You
I will go to sleep tonight,
A little less lonely,
Yet still lonesome.
For my arms are empty,
They're used to holding you,
Wondering what you're dreaming of,
I dream of falling asleep with you.

Killing The Crows
Believe me officer,
I know the crows.

I know their black feathers,
Their call is cold,
It terrifies me.

I used to count them,
2 is safe,
3 is a warning,
4 is an omen,
5 is too late,
6 is a ******,
Six means death.

So what was I to do,
When I counted seven up in the roost?
I blew them back to hell,
No more counting,
No more omens.
Is killing those **** birds,
Really a crime?
Today there were 5, noting happened.

Like It Better
Every night when the winds are hushed,
I whisper,
"Are you listening to the night?"

Every time I whisper,
I hear you whisper back,
"Are you listening to me?"

I'm so sorry,
Let me listen more,
I'd seal my mouth away for you.

Genie, genie please,
How can I be better,
Do better things?

How may I make you happier,
I thought I was doing an alright job,
But let me do more,

I think you'll like it better.

Perfecting
An artist cries the most tears,
For art is a painful thing.
I wither my fingers to bones,
Perfecting every line of poetry.

I want it all to be perfect,
So much it starts reflecting onto my life,
The way I walk, the way I talk, the way I care too much.

Yet I am not perfect,
I'm afraid I never will be,
All this trying,
Is killing me.

Brand New Rules
I've learned that when times are hard,
The healthiest thing to do,
Is to cut yourself off from everyone,
Until your very last bond fades away.
But that's an example of how,
Not everything we learn is true,
Or at least should be followed,
As if it were a brand new rule.

Marry You
I had this crazy idea,
What if when we graduate,
I take you far away.

We can live without trouble,
The pains of everyday,
We could do the things we always wanted to.

If we get the time,
While we're living hand in hand,
I'd love to marry you.
I can imagine it perfectly,
"Darling, forever be mine?"

Paranoia
Paranoia does it's best work,
When someone disappears,
But you have no clue where it's gone.
No reason or rhyme,
It even seems to slow time,
Ringer on,
Pacing the back lawn.
Disappeared without a trace,
Has something gone wrong?
Have I led to some kind of distaste?
You're going nuts,
Only 40 minutes they've been gone,
Still it blinds your thoughts.
What has happened?
You were just here,
Now you're lost.
Yet for all this grief,
I'll jump at my phones trill,
Just to see,
You fell asleep.
I'm overthinking

In My Mind
In my mind,
I am in the deep south,
Dancing with Cowboys,
Singing folk songs.
Herding cattle,
Chasing outlaws.

In my mind,
I am in Paris, France,
Waking up with you beside me,
Strolling in the lazy streets.
Chatting with the News-Man,
Drinking coffee at the Cafe.

In my mind,
I'm where I want to be,
I'm with all my buddies.
Time never seems to pass,
How can I get all of that?
Sometimes it feels as if I'm writing to her
1.  Don't write when you're tired.
2. If you must, don't write things you'll regret.
3. Don't treat a serious feeling as a joke.
4. Think fourteen plus times before saying/doing anything.
5. Be available for anything.
6. Only risk what you're willing to lose.
7. Risk only to gain.
8. If you don't think it'll be enjoyed, don't do it at all.
9. Fix problems with more than, "I'm sorry."
10. Please don't write when your tired.

Cover Of Radiohead
I heard the worst cover of Radiohead,
Some man was singing Creep,
But with a polka swing.

He knew what he was doing,
The crowd wasn't too happy,
Yet, each word he sang,
Came with more pain,
Than the original.
For some, the lows are all you get.
I don't speak often,
When I do I don't speak up,
But that can change.

Two colors rule my mind,
A blue hue,
A red fool.

That doesn't me I'll fight,
It certainly doesn't mean I'll lay down to die.

Life Is Here
Life is here,
Then it's not,
One small portion of time,
It's all we've got.
You find things you like,
People too,
I found you.
No second chances,
No time to make up lost dances,
Or even a simple second,
To appreciate what you have.
I blinked,
Then October turned to spring,
Easter flowers came just in time this year,
I can only give them 86 more chances,
To reappear.
It's not enough

Leave With Me
I want to escape,
To leave this cloudy place,
Where the rain freezes over,
Leaving a layer of ice,
Wrapped tight around our hands.

I want to leave,
Will you come with me?
The north is bitter,
Rich men plaster their homes with soulless things,
Leaving the poor man's mouth frothing.

I am leaving this place,
Please come with me,
The trail is cold,
Your embrace is warm.
If you say no,
I will stay.
I fall into her

An Hour Left To Live
If I had an hour left to live,
I'd spend it here,
Throw some kind of party,
Invite everyone I knew,

Because I would die a legend,

But I know I wouldn't attend,
I'd sneak away with you,
Spend my final moment kissing you.

This Is Everything
I want more,
I want less,
I want it all.

"Marry me."
If I could I would,
You have no idea,

So devoted to you,
The single men heckle in their cliques,
But they don't understand,

What this is to me.
I am an idol,
For those looking to find fickle peace,
After years of grueling pain.

I am the title,
To a collection of poems,
Featuring the every raw creation.

I am nothing compared to everything else,
But my creations can be something.

You
You
I'm a person,
You made me,
I'm a product of you,
Your loving touch,
I'm a compound,
Your atoms make me up,

The universe has so much matter,
But none of it matters,
Without you,

You,

I make the bed in my heart,
So you have somewhere to sleep,
I carve out room,
Where I store my love for you,

I'm a creature,
But I'm human when I'm around you,

You make me human,
Human,
Human,
Who?

I. Love. You.
We're separated too much,

You're so far
Away

If I could be there I would,
If my bike had tires I could,

You are a need,
Addiction
Craving
Dream.
My mother warned me about drugs,
Good thing my high is you,

That's cliche,
But I'm at a lack of ways,
To truly just explain,

I

Love

You

I'll Be Okay
If I need an excuse to talk to,
It's that I love you,
Miss you,

Crave you.

You understand me,
I understand you,

We're open, even when we're closed.

It's the feeling of being with you,
The rush of each kiss,
Each time I hold you,

You hug my arm,

This is what it means to be loved,
To be close to someone,

I think I'll be okay.

Simple Days
The sun is setting,
On another windy day,

Cold and brittle,
Perfect for a *** roast!
We'd take to the grill,

But the weather had other plans.

Thankful for every passing cloud,

They reflect the sun so well.
Who are heroes?
What is heroism?
I'm not sure,

We're at a scary lack of that,
Missing the true selfless values,
Of what we know it to be.

Today it's easy to stumble upon the self proclaimed,
What do they do it for?
For the clout, to move the graph,

Exponential gain.

But I know it's impossible to be pure,
After all, I've purged my heart,
More times than I ought to,

Bright places go dark faster than they should.

It may be consequence,
Of shooting holes in the flood-lights.
Though the sparking is just so entertaining,

Another simple pleasure destroyed by conventional good.
Evil hunts itself.

Importance
There are things important to me,
That many people today will find silly,

This is one of those,
To be a writer,
To write great poetry,

To have that poetry read in classrooms,
To have it read in lecture halls,
That it will be read in fire lit living rooms,
That it will reach the ears of the youth,

----- ----- ----- -----

I find this important.
That I will leave something great behind me.
'To **** A Mockingbird' is a very controversial book,
It boasts certain values that no modern day book should,
At least that's what I understand,
Having not read the book through.

But this is a common literary problem,
Even more prominent than genre prejudice,
Which we all know,
Or judging the book by its cover,
An even more common cliche within literary review.

It's people writing reader's guides and summaries,
Based off of common ideas and ideals taken from the tale,
Carefully penning their slander towards each story,
Without gracing or gazing a single one of its pages.
Today is the start of my English class's, "To **** A Mockingbird," unit. This is based off that and flavored with some of the things we discussed about it in class. Bound together with a reflection on common literary review problems.

Losing Sound
My mind is a reflecting pool
Shattered memories floating through
I reach out to grasp them
But they lunge away
I chase after
They disappear
They disappeared
I’m sorry to my past self
I’ve wronged you
I’m sorry to my past friends
I’ll never be the same man you know
But you weren’t returning anyways
I’m sorry to myself
I’ll never be the same man you know
I write
I write more
I write more again
I wrote
I’ve written
Stop this noise
Leave me in silence
I was never scared of silence
I was scared of losing sound

Too Human
I dream of days
Where worry passes by
Replaced by the soft caress of warm winds
Where I trust myself to make big decisions
Without falling apart
Someday I know
I’ll feel your touch
With love alone
No worry, no fear
My thoughts will be clear and pure
Barred away from the darkness
For now I struggle
Too human to not worry
Too non-organic to feel

I Think Of You
They say there's no thing as true love,
Humans are also fondly known to lie,
I just can't believe it,
Not after knowing you.

I can't say it enough times,
I need something more to really let you know,
I yearn for you,
You are a necessity.

Even when times get dark,
We light each other up,
Even when they plant seeds of doubt,
We sprout even brighter than before.

We grow, we love,
We tire, we sleep,
We rest, we're restless.
I think, I think of you.

Dreaming Of You
I had a dream,
20 years had passed,
You and I had grown older.
Fate had taken a cruel twist on me,
I had to sail away,
Move to the city of Paris.
I wrote you letters,
You wrote them back,
But the ink was laced with tears.
I found a job selling newspapers,
My dream of writing crushed.
You went to work in hairdressing,
For not nearly enough pay.
I saved up each paycheck,
Worked to the bone each day.
I purchased you a plane ticket,
Flew you out to France.
We were happy once again,
Love knows no bounds.
Paris pronounced the French way. (pare-ie)

Defend The Scared
Often times those of us that disturb peace,
Are making up for the lack of our own.

I used to look upon the scarred and hurt,
With disgust.
The world had taught me,
There was no place for those who can't defend themselves.

You need no excuse to stand and fight,
Let us defend the scared,

To make up for every little sin.
I apologize

Nor is it a weapon,

My sword and my sheild.

Don't Worry (Trust)
Build with trust alone,
Don't let worry take it's toll,
What you built will fade.
Haiku :)
Talented young poets are in short supply,
So what shame it is to see a talent die.
I see the sparkle fade,
Disenchanted by doubt.
Please keep writing,
We are in need.
Art doesn't need correction, it needs improvement, innovation.

It Snows In Spring
Seasons change suddenly,
Friendships can fade from spring buds,
To crumbling fall leaves.

People leave, they tend to take the fire with them,
Make sure you keep spare logs hidden,
Sometimes it snows in spring.
It snowed this morning. It brought back bitter things.

Talk It Out
I'm sorry isn't enough,
But it's all I've got,
As much as that *****.
I care about you so much,
Never do I ever want to see you come to harm,
Or see you fade away.
I want to see us blossom and grow,
Rather than shrivel up and decay,
So if there's something I can do,
Please let me know,
Could we talk it out?
I can't help caring

If I Disappear
If I ever disappear,
Don't go looking,
I will be long gone,
Far away with the winds.

But if you wish to hear me,
Lend an ear to the early breezes,
You will hear me voice,
Calling out, softly singing.
Long away with the winged birds.

Letter For My Brother
I'm so proud of you,
You've made it all the way here,
You're still nothing but yourself.

I still remember when you were little,
Skin and bones all the way till third grade,
Mom was so happy when you started putting on weight,
She was worried you'd starve your growth.

But kids are cruel,
Now I'm worried about you,
You're taking bold steps into life,
Carrying yourself with a grand sense of pride,
Promise you'll be careful, more sensible than me.

Because I want you to be something more than me,
Please don't follow in the shadow of my legacy,
Light a candle, break away, make something more out of your modern day,
You used to have the same haircut, shoes, ideas as me,
Though I finally see you moving along,
I make big foot-prints, I dare you to make bigger ones.
I pray he goes far, so far.

The Grimms' Legacy
W. and J. Grimm were geniuses,
Characterized not only by intelligence,
But the way they implemented it.

They understood the magic hidden within common tales,
Retracing the rich roots of Germany,
Improving the way a child learns with each word.
The tales they gathered are irreplaceable.

Born In Twilight
Those who are born in night,
Fear the sun.
Those who are born in light,
Fear the sin.
Though, I fear them both,
For I was born amongst the twilight.
A mix of two opposites
Nobody lives in negative infinity,
Life is not linear,
We live, grow, and learn,
In parabolas.

One U shaped graph,
That goes down,
But comes back up,
Even when you hit the A.O.S.
Open your mind and inspiration will come.

Tired Is An Emotion
Tired is an emotion,
It's a wavering between sad,
And paranoid.
Exhausted because you couldn't sleep,
You were worrying about everything,
About her, about you, about life, the future too.
You keep worrying,
Until you pass out from lack of sleep,
And not even writing helps.
Because there's nothing to write about,
You feel the same every passing day,
But you can't write the same thing for days in a row.
New work, is there new work?
I'm working on it,
Drowning in thoughts,
Wish I could drown it out,
I can't out-think myself.
Though I wish I could,
My mind is a faucet,
But there's no turning it off.
So tired

Not born to a human,

Not hinting at anything, just wanted to use this theme.
