Beliefs
If one believes something they should have proof .
If one does not believe they should have proof as well .

Don't hide behind your protasis .
May all your "ifs" sink into the sea .

Stand firmly on the waters of your apodosis .
Ease your mind and set your spirit free .

Circus
The thrill of flying
doing somersaults in the air
Hanging by one hand
on the trapeze
Their faces full of scare

Met a fraulein on the seven days of waiting
Been dreaming of those days and all the seven nights waking

I crossed the James River
Would you have crossed I wanted to know
It was full of beer bottles
At night had an erie glow

You keep a pistol locked and loaded
By the nightstand in your room
Hoping to shoot holes in the new full moon

Everyone loves you empty of feelings
So you are feeling the pain
There is no sweets in being around the world while left standing in the rain

Take the assualts posted on the magazine's page
Flip through the pages , turning up the volume of rage

Remember when the world was yours
Stuck in Vegas in a Vega
Yelling , "The world is mine !"

Will the sidewalks
of delimination
give up the steps
short of
the shoehorned dreams

Those deposed days
under autumn's oath
with prejury and prejudice

Not one of
if I am willing
but
one of Cain enAbeling
the complicated

The judge agreed
it was a first ,
in the first degree

I looked at mom
suspiciously
every time she
said
"eat your vegetables !"

Abbey Road
Daisies don't grow on Abbey Road .

There is no such thing as London fog .

No octopus's garden in the rain .
Nor in the shade .

No yellow bus on a magical mystery tour .

She's so heavy .
She's so bad
She removes the screen before coming in through the bathroom window

Standing in my English tan
Waiting . . .
Here comes the sun .

She never gave me
any more than the twice she'd take

Now you have no where to go

One sweet dream
One tear away
Sleeps in a hole in the road
Suffers like a Tuesday on the phone to me

She could steal
But could not rob .

No there is no home to go back to
No smiles to away the cry
No more lullabies
or invitations

And in the end the love you take is equal to the love you make .

Unmending walls
I was out on a winter's morn
Picking up toppled rocks
and mending wall .

By perchance my neighbor he was due .
But he was taking down the rocks and hauling them off until his face turned blue

"What gives ?" , I querried of him .

"I've been accused that my mind is walled in ! I'm out here to disprove all of them ."

"I think that was a literal figure of speech . You've over reacted and broken breech !"

He paused to wipe the sweat
I thought surely now he would realize yet .

But he continued to dismantle the wall .

If he was playing poker he would be raising the bet after he made the last call .

Behind those eyes
What thoughts in word
reside beyond the dimming
of your eye

Were I able to read your commandments engraved
behind your disguise ?

I catch the morning's light
in the rays of reflection of
your lack of dedication

It takes a while to fall from the highest tree . Longer still to hew it down .
In disgusted fall
leaves rusty and dirt brown too
Reminds me of you

Feathers
It's not the weight of a feather
that crushes you

It's the fear that it could

Time is the tick that ***** the tock out of you

Death is that time share you bought long ago thinking you'd never use it

Yesterday was the first day of the rest of your life . . . .
and your last

The future holds no favors
The past all your grudges
The present by your *****

Did I leave anything out ?
Did I hold anything in ?
Did I forget a thing ?

A feather for your thoughts

When the Days
When the days have folded
When the book's spine breaks
When you no longer need me
Then the truth penetrates

Will away the foundation
Will out any discourse
Will you forsake me
Leaving me remorse

Every monument crumbles
Every one to sand
Every choice we've made
Turned out of hand

Life turns to what's lost
Life cannot be held
Life leaves us shortly
And it's just as well

roll out the resurrection of the mourning

My heart or head ?
Which one bled the most ?

The thoughts turning red
The heart to water
I can barely twist the truth
I'm so wrung !

Dare dash the dust from the room
The canary in the coffin doomed
Crack the legs to make it fit
Awful feeling in your pit

The days taste of kerosene
The bees are gone there's no sting
While the albatross questions why
The walrus now has to die

Yank the heart from it's wrack
Beat the drums tack tack tack
Time's kept in a bottle by the sea
So was tossed the child so wee

I dared thee to write it down
You , the orangutan face of a clown
Kick the plastic down the road
Make the others tariff the load
I threw my poem to the wolves
They then tore apart
every word
They swallowed down all the thread
then they languished
for soon they fled

For this was nothin̈g new
Just another sitting
on a Sunday church pew
For every poem has its cross to bear
Before it's cruxified
and rise in air

Wait for me
Time was short and
I was short on time
The two mixed together
and said , "Not for another dime ."

He wasn't dressed in black
Yet he looked so lifelessly black
What he didn't say said it all
This was strictly a business call

He motioned to a mysterious door
that opened as he spoke
There beyond the imagination
the sun went down . . .
Just then I awoke

The Glass in Hand
I was handed
   a glass full of life
And begged to
   to partake

To drink up
   he drunk
To swallow
   and forget
the strife

Instead of
   sweet dreams
Swilling concepts
   sprung to life

The more swill
    I swallowed
The tighter
    the grasp
I would yield

The pressure
    so great
The glass shattered
    life spilled

The blood
    gushed
But it was
    a relief

Just a pain
    I could understand
Something real
    I could handle
I .
I saw the past flee from me
Leaving puddles of memories -
( memories of sadness , salt and pepper , bread and butter ) -
How close we were together
The Glenn Iris in September

II .
The ocean swelled and crashed on the rocks
We made love not unlike the sea
The winter was cold , frozen in love
Then she chose to leave
All my seed fell frozen
All my dreams winter bare

III .
For February fallen
March ascending
Long frozen tears
soft wails , shivering chills
For the stars out tonight
are older than first love
have endured through the void and cold
and comes to me soft in comfort

IV .
There will be new dawns
There will be healing
There will be a new song
New hope and heart ,
as long as the Irish pipes play and wooden flutes . . .
. . . as long as there are walks at the end of the day
Secret gardens where little girls play . . .
As long . . .only as long . . .

V .
I drape the sadness like a quilt about me and dwell on being small
I'm not saying I'm overwhelmed ,
not saying I'm understood
Just saying a robin is
a promise on a snow covered lawn

VI .
Too much in the band
Standing on a corner downtown
Walking in the surf's foam
early one summer's morn
A train whistle  blows forlornly in a dream I have
Someone has been coming for me all these years

VII .
Was it all wasted ?
Was it something more than we know ?
A cup of tea in the morning
On the table lie the lines of rhyme . . .
and some time . . .
the supreme enigma

I Sailed
I sailed away from the
Bay of Dismay
Of my recent past

I left the land
of the midnight's voice
I buried the remains

Now I long to return
To dig up all
That could remain

But I would imagine
Not even worms
Would be in the remains

It's been
Way too long
To learn how to sing

Since cancer cut me down
I only hope I will fly
With my broken wings

No I will not return
For the truth died there
As the bell of life so tolls

Who ?
Who remembers your
last breath
That lead you down unto
death
Who was there watching by your side
The afternoon that you died
Where was the place your soul departed
Was it happenstance
or wholly hearted
Did anyone pray or bid farewell
Anything more than it's time to tell
Who glanced at watch and marked it down
When sudden silence looks
around
The minute , hour , day , month and year
There ends the journey from there to here .

Rancor
There was dirt and dried blood
on the face of the child
Round innocent eyes
looking back
I wiped away what I could
The child too frightened to cry
left holding the remnants
of her knickknacks
Now alone on her own
most likely at the
solemn age of four
I wanted to take her home
but the war rages on

The refugees along with the girl
are loaded on the back of the truck
Joe said there's no way in Hell
they'd make it to where they had to go.
"**** ." I muttered under my breath
"How I hate this ******* war ."
"Come on and eat ," said Joe "it may be the last time you know ."

I imagine red rain
waking the Maginot line
All of my disdain
falls silver in shame
accordingly

I was caught helplessly
hoping
that the harlequins
would run basking
in the gooodbyes

Standing by the stairway
where I was choking on the promises of hello
a graceless lady stood suffering

Such are the stories that are seldom told
Those that are squandered
on existence
and those that are rejected at the cost of innocence

Were we looking forward
at our past
and found some comfort there
. . . what we imagined there

Bleeding me in the cuts of frustrations
Scabbing the shame
Forgiving the failures
. . . and the pain

always the pain . . .

can't you see

what's it doing to me ?

Two alone
We were two alone in loneliness
Worked together for several years
Always kept a professional distance
Made sure all was as appeared

Then one day the news arrived
She took it all so hard
Her always inmovable nature
Crumbled like a house made out of cards

I embraced her quaking body
As the tears and sobs did flow
Like a little child she turned into
With nowhere else to go

Holding her tight seemed so right
I could feel her letting go
Then the dam burst and discharged
Out the love did flow

Soon we were cheek to cheek
With nothing but tears between
When our lips did touch
I felt her heart redeemed

To the floor we soon did fall
And rolled , each in the others arms
Our lips were locked and cocked
It was impossible to disarm

With hands and fingers fumbling
Ripping off our clothes
We were soon nothing more than
Bare valleys with moist knolls

We made love until exhausted
Then she realized what she'd done
The passion fled replaced by shame
"can't put the bullet back in the gun"

We got dressed without a glance
"I have to run" was all she said
"Okay , I will see you later"
And out the door she fled
Last time I ever saw her

I make my bed on cold hard ground
I raise up long before first rays of dawn
It's a life I choose
I am not bound
I feel it's my way
of being sound

When I keep
my mouth zippered down
I find that my words
not going round
Causing pain on both
ends of stick
And my wounds I
don't have to lick

When upon the woods
I rail
All alone like ship on sail
I find life full of mystery
As truths are revealed to me
Give me time that's unadorned
Oak and acorn
pine cone woods so thick
Until God blows
out my wick

The days have become
cast lead ingots

The seconds a plague of locusts
That devour every shred of dignity
The weeks that lay ahead
leave me horizontally inclined
Now the years are rubber stamped overdue

The hours oscilliate from day to night to a monotonous finale
with every note short of breath
The months have compounded my interest of doubts
Leading to decades of debacles and debauchery
And to a lifetime devoid of hope

So it goes
There's a knocking . . .
who be knocking at my door ?

Lipstick on your collar
Now who be there hollering at my door ?

You know it was never
Did I ever learn to tether
the latch pon the door

In stepped this feller
and I ain't seen the likes of him ever . . .
so it goes

Yes ! It's all about the woes
They say you never know
It comes down to the throes
Doubled cross as before
all I can say . . . so it goes

you know deep down in your toes . . .
so it goes

If mankind is the seed
the open grave of needs
I'll be raising weeds . . .
so it goes . . .
yeah , so it goes
I look inside myself
and see the drops of pain

I look around me and
see a sea of hearts the same

All are seeking comfort
for their losses or their shame

All having their doubts
and fears they will always be the same

A word of consolation
will never be enough

Don't pat me on the back
or give me that silver lining stuff

I need a purer living heart
A comforter of
words will never suffice enough

Someone who takes on the responsibility
for my sins
The sins that had my soul handcuffed

Someone to forgive the iniquity
To wash a soul clean as the wounds would be by rain

Someone I can trust upon
to take away the pain

No one around

You rock back and forth slowly
Like the thoughts 'n your head

Thinking about all the reasons why
without a spark the flames of love are dead

You say you gotta stay hungry
I say you're starved to death

You say you're looking for love
First , I say , you've
gotta have a heart

forever blue

The offering of a hand full of goodbyes
slips off my fingertips
crystallized ìn sunshine
tears and whys
Open wide
the gates of Hell
The butterfly effectually
flutters to false intent
from that organelle

From double hearted
wing beats

Proudly inciting insolence
from the center of the beast

It takes a coal
from the altar
that the lips must kiss
To purge all iniquities
to burn on the bliss
