You can’t keep choosing someone who doesn’t choose you. You can’t. Because your person is going to be your person for the rest of your life. Not just when you’re young and things are perfect, but when things get messy and when you make mistakes and the world is less shiny. You have to make sure that you have someone by your side that wants to be there. Someone who wants to support you, and encourages you. Someone who gives you as much effort as you give them. Someone who wants to hear you laugh, and make breakfast with you, and listen to all of your dumb jokes for twenty, thirty or even fifty years. Because there’re difficult things in life, really hard and haunted things that make it heal and hurtful at times. But love shouldn’t be one of those things. Love should be your safe place. So please, just don’t give up the best parts of yourself to someone who doesn’t see the value in what they’re receiving. Don’t settle for anyone who doesn’t look at you and know, without hesitation, that they want to stay.

Stay single until it feels easy, simple like breathing. Stay single until you don’t have to constantly remind someone how to be better or how to treat to you right. Stay single until you find someone who knows exactly what you need before you have to ask, someone who understands your love language and will do their best to learn it, who’s willing to make compromises, who wants to make sure you’re both understood and appreciated. Stay single until you find someone who would do anything to make you feel loved and heard.
