some people dig
holes to be filled
live and let live
**** or be killed
some people sow
some people reap
some let it go
while others keep
the ones that do
either don't or they won't
if they're brand new
won't be long for they're old
differences
between day and night
some muddle in wrong
some puddle in right
some clear the way
others are weeds
blind as a bat
clearly can see
laid out and bare
hidden beneath
righteous and kind
stubborn and mean
some people are *****
some people are clean
some are up front
some in-between
fall to the right
to the left lean
call it a night
some never sleep
some people dig
holes way too deep
some people are you
some people are me

If you believe no one thinks you are beautiful
I do
If you believe no one thinks you are clever
I do
If you believe no one thinks you are good
I do
If you believe no one thinks you are special
I do
If you believe no one wants you to stay alive
I do
I promise
There will always be somebody who
Wants you
To be
You

I keep my inner poet
Put away.
She is dangerous.
Doesn't understand her own power.
She thinks she can fly
And she'll make you believe
That you can, too.
But her wings are paper thin.
Too fragile for flight.

Her eyes shine too much
When the poetry is flowing.
I've seen the devastation
That can follow in her wake.

Grown men don't believe
In poetry.
Get lured in by siren songs.
Feel cheated
when the music ends.

I keep her put away
And hold my gaze on my hands
In the dirt.

We are safer that way.

Anything you wish to find
Find it in the all-one-mind
Fear and anger, love and laughter
Little circuits weave and bind

Everything we have entwined
Echoes in the all-one-mind
Demons swinging from the rafters
All our chimaeras combined

Rising on a feedback loop
Too recursive to recoup
Ever louder, ever dafter
Too far to recall the troops

In the all-one-mind they say
Nothing ever goes away
Here shall live foreverafter
Every web we weave today

Do you realize
That while we're asleep
Bugs crawl in our ears
And whisper strange things
That's why we have
The strangest of dreams
With bugs in control
While we're asleep
As they try and direct
Our thoughts where we lay
To make us think
That all is okay
But not all is okay
If you know what I mean
As bugs crawl in our ears
And whisper strange things

At the back of the stage in a gloomy wee room
Where the cockroaches eat what the rats don’t consume
There’s a table enveloped in paper and grime
On a carpet now lost to a happier time
With a cast iron typewriter, rusted with age
In the gloomy wee room at the back of the stage

And under a lampshade of nicotine brown
Sits a comical legend of zero renown
How he plugs at the keys of his rattling beast
The years of persistence have left him decreased
Now he’s stuck in the shade of his hovering doom
At the back of the stage in a gloomy wee room

His words are for others and too, the applause
Though a standing ovation might cause him to pause
He hasn’t the courage to speak them aloud
For he’s lacking the bottle and shy of a crowd
So he captures the laughter in lines on his page
In a gloomy wee room at the back of the stage

Be the wheel
that's set to turn
The comfort in
the daily hurt
The flame that lights
not the one that burns
Be the lesson
that is learned

Be the hope
and not despair
The helping hands
that show you care
The pleasure ride
that takes you there
Be the truth
inside the dare

Be the answer
to the call
The very reason
for it all
The solid yes
to all the no's
Be the river
that freely flows

Be the kindness
that we need
The encouragement
that sets us free
The do good
to the deed
Be all this
and all of these
