It was new
It was shiny
They said put it in a case
Don't let it break
You didn't realize he was breaking it
Chipping at it with every word
Every kiss
Every touch
Had nothing but hurt behind it
It isn't a sickness
So there's not a new one
You have to fix it
Mend it
Mourn it
Learn to live with it broken
The ache will always be there
It'll fade with time
But it's there
You'll miss the way he kissed your forehead
And how he used to wipe away your tears
The long talks till midnight
The firsts you shared with him
He was your first kiss your first everything
He took it all
Silly girl didn't know she could fall

I met a star today.
She was prettier
in real life
than
in the movies.
It seems
you never get the script
on the screen
that you get
in real life.
The right words flowed
from her lips,
you could feel
her
genuine spirit.
She was so pure
& even got the shivers
to prove it.
That was cool.

Oh, how you ***** me!
How you betrayed me!
You took away our romance!
Berated me,
Degenerated me
At every turn of the dance!

Now, when you lied,
How I did cry.
How your mis-deeds turned me out.
I tried to forgive,
Tried to forget.
I tried to figure all this out.

Time and again
You hurt me so.
Everytime you strike with a low blow.
Shame comes to me
In memories.
I try my best to let you go.

You live to lie.
I wonder why
There is no truth inside your heart.
Your acridine,
Oscillate, shine.
You went right through me like a dart.

Where were you
When I needed someone?
You wrecked the soul  of who I used to be.
You rocked the loom.
And weaved love's tomb.
You have been the death of me.

This is the time.
I know I'll find
The strength I need to tell you so.
By this night's end,
Freedom begins.
I know I've got to let you go.
I have been playing with this one for about eight years. I was tweaking the last stanza of this poem that was meant to be a song just now. I wrote it from the perspective of a best friend who was going through a break up. What I love about creating poetry is that it can be always changing. I am sure over the years this one will continue to evolve.

I can feel the fire
licking up my legs until they are charred,
black as my soul is believed to be.
Screams of the innocent echo in my ears.
This was meant to be my funeral pyre.

I **** myself awake
drenched in sweat, with a shriek of pain
catching like a lump in my throat.
Sheets bunched up against me like kindling
gathered to be lit beneath the stake.

I glance around the room
still feeling the eyes of my accusers
bearing into me, hatred blazing the
path of their need for destruction.
“WITCH!”
Many fates sealed with a single word.

Except I am still alive,
the blood of the crimeless flowing through my veins.
Those flames that condemn
spared no one but me, resurrected from the embers.
The Sole Witch of Salem, survived.
With the right wings,
She could have soared.
To work so hard toward,
Learning how to fly,
Then lose hope;
Fall off the *****.
To have taken a knock,
From the very top,
Expecting
To
Gradually,
