I am glitter on Birkenstocks
A snazzy suitcase filled with rocks
A staircase leading anywhere
Dim for most the way there
Sometimes “who knows?”
Is the bestest place to go
Birkenstocks are comfortable
And diamonds are rocks too
What you think of me
Mostly
Depends on you

The ocean shore is my comfort place
The sounds
The smells
Looking at the same scene
Different every second
Yet predictable
My stress melts away
As soon as my bare feet hit sand
It’s as close as I can get to walking on water
While never leaving land

Is there a proper protocol for walking away?
Am I obligated to say
We have had our final day?  
Games we almost play
Forfeited for the too long wait
Stayed around way too late
I suppose an explanation isn’t
Necessary

I might not be broken enough for him
He seems to respond to sob stories
He wants to ride in on low expectations
Held by women who
Don’t know how to choose men
Here he comes
Gentle and kind
To blow their otherwise beaten mind
Give a little confidence
Spring in the step
And he’s on to the next
Telling himself he’s such a gent

I want to write you a poem
But I'm not up to the task
I can't come up with perfection
Just cuz I asked
You’re so amazing
You deserve nothing less
But
I can't give perfection
Only my best
The world should know
About your valiant soul
Your gentle nature
Yet down to roll
Loyalty, and honest too
I can trust it
If it came from you

Your biggest gripe with the world
Is that you’re not permitted
To walk your dog on the beach
And yet
There you are
Griping

Forgetting
Trying to
Anyway
Gonna take a thousand days
From the next beautiful thing you do
So
What that means
Is
On top of all your other talents
You are unforgettable, too
There ain’t no how no way
I’m gonna be forgetting you

It’s a mission
To show you who I am
***** it out here for you to see
Which has to mean everybody
I think I’ve got likability
But I just happen to like me
I don’t know what you see
Brash, brazen, unapologetic me
For who I be
And what I want
And what kind of beautiful picture I see
In a future of you and me
If we get friendly

Shame on the moon
For gazing at you
That moon up there has some nerve
It’s  always spying upon you
Loneliness is what it deserves
Shame on the sun
For kissing your skin
Inviting you out of your clothes
But if I had the power to do that
I would, too, I suppose

Engulfing your body
And lapping you with it’s waves
The tide comes in early when you are around
It’s clear to see what it craves
Most of all
Shame on me
For feeling so strongly

One day you may know
How deep my feelings go
Until then from afar I will swoon

I have no idea
Which ideas you have
Nor do I want to hear

And this is relevant to me and you
We do not rhyme
And you must know that to be true

I dreamed that I could fly
I felt so free
YAY!  Yippi Kai!  
And somewhere in my brain
I said
“I can’t be flying.  I must be dreaming or dead.”  
And then, I started to lose altitude
I could no longer soar
Slowly descended to the ground
And I could fly no more
Apparently, my dreams are pretty rude
And I wanted to have an attitude
Till to myself, I said
“Girl you big dummy fool.
Be happy you’re not dead.”

It is poetic that “eyes” and “skies” rhyme
**** and luck
Love and glove
**** and slick
(Sick, too, but only if you’re not safe)
Sneeze and breeze
Please and knees
This can only mean
Words want to be in a poem

Moving away isn’t easy
I knew it wouldn’t be
Sometimes I like to pretend
You are missing me
Not enough, though
You’re much harder than I am
To let go

Anyone can find someone
When just anyone will do
But for some of us
There’s just one of us
Who can complete the one
To two
And for me
That one of us
Is you

It’s not a process
I’m going through
Letting go of you
It’s more like a quest
To find the will to settle for less
An admission
To myself that I am the less

Irritation when I see
What passes for great poetry
When front page news is made a joke
Insincere words bespoke
A trending sentiment
And everyone
Jumped on in
To melt
Up and away it went

Your tendency to overshare
You call “keeping it real,”
But there’s plenty we don’t need to know
Like how on your bio
You mention your fetish for cold steel
Between your **** cheeks
And call yourself a gun freak
Which in your case
Is just another way
Of calling yourself a ****** geek

Rejection is a kindness
Sometimes
Chasing after someone so fine
He doesn’t allow false hopes
Weighing upon my mind
If he is kind
Dangling  ‘pon invisible ropes
Is really my own
Responsibility
He doesn’t owe rejection to me
And it’s not as if I want to be free
I gotta want after somebody
And if it must be
Ain’t nobody better than he
As far as I can see
I see almost perfectly
With my whole body
He is kind
The **** is me
That must be
According to what I see
But still, I feel
He is not kind to me
I accept I’m probably
Thinking narcissistically
Part of me
He can see
Easier than me
Why we do not be
I accept realistically
And I am actually free
To chase after anybody
It so happens to be

He says, “she is withdrawing money from my account without my permission.”  
I said, “she is stealing from you”
He likes to sugar coat
Or maybe he needs to

If we spent time
Intimately

I’m gonna annoy you sometimes

You know you’re not perfect
But do you know I know you’re not perfect?
It’s likely you believe
You’d have to live up to too much with me
I know I wouldn’t want somebody
Unable  to perceive
All the ****** up parts of me
Idolization turned disease
Maybe
I only know that it feels healthy to me
When my soul has dreams
I hope, to you
Healthy is how it seems

I want to bring you peace
But that may be unlikely
I’m not the quiet type
I’m chaotic and flippy
All over the place
Yet steady and fun
A little too trippy
But a fun break from reality
Never hurt anyone
When I know the way
Back to sanity

Go to crazy with me
And there we might find

The signs were there
Chipping paint
Hard to read
Then they became

But still so hard to see

The winner of the argument

The one who does not want to argue

My muse

I have no follow through
When it comes to denying myself of you
And vice versa, too
The desire to share

If I’m being true
Not sure what a girl can do
Once she’s become an addict of you

I don’t want to get all dramatic
And call it an ache
But it’s not not an ache

I don’t think you feel it
With me in your mind
But I might be in your soul
We’re not not soulmates
Maybe one day we will be not soulmates
But we will be good friends

I am a fuzzy lollipop
Kicking around on the floor
Awaiting some enterprising
Sweet tooth
To run me under some warm water
And then
The fun starts
Until I am done
Or kicking around some more
Tempting to someone
Industrious
Some fuzzy lollipops are
One of a kind flavors
Buzz infused once the
Fuzz is removed

This must be what awe feels like

Tolerance
Doesn’t speak loud enough
It doesn’t defend itself
It simply exists
Quietly

Your soul is old
But your problems are young
It's a dichotomy
The part of the journey
With the fork in the road
That hits right between
The young and the old
You stare down the problem
Quizzicaly
And the best you can do is say

Chances that are not earned
End in failure

I’m not saying you

But the effort you think I got

On a warm summer's evening
On a train bound for nowhere
I met up with a gambler
We were both too tired to sleep
So we took turns a-starin'
Out the window at the darkness
The boredom overtook us
And he began to speak

He said, "Son, I've made a life
Out of readin' people's faces
And knowin' what the cards were
By the way they held their eyes.
So if you don't mind my sayin'
I can see you're out of aces
For a taste of your whiskey
I'll give you some advice."

So I handed him my bottle
And he drank down my last swallow
Then he bummed a cigarette
And asked me for a light
And the night got deathly quiet
And his face lost all expression
Said, "If you're gonna play the game, boy,
You gotta learn to play it right.

You got to know when to hold 'em,
Know when to fold 'em,
Know when to walk away,
And know when to run.
You never count your money
When you're sittin' at the table.
There'll be time enough for countin'
When the dealing's done.

Every gambler knows
That the secret to survivin'
Is knowin' what to throw away
And knowin' what to keep.
'Cause every hand's a winner,
And every hand's a loser,
And the best that you can hope for
Is to die in your sleep."

And when he finished speakin'
He turned back toward the window
Crushed out his cigarette
And faded off to sleep
And somewhere in the darkness
The gambler he broke even
And in his final words
I found an ace that I could keep

I think you're gorgeous
So if I know you're interested
In something
I try to take interest, too
But why can't you just be
Easy
And be interested in
Interesting stuff?
Business, finance, math
And such
I can't possibly crush on somebody
That much

Always I speak into the void
Sometimes it answers
Always a surprise
Sometimes it’s mean
Sometimes it’s nice

The internet
Pretends to be intimate
False sense of really knowing
But all we see is the fake
Front that people are showing
Who is really behind
That screen
So many pictures
They paste
But yet
Everything remains unseen
And a whole life
Can be faked
You think you’re talking to a marine
Out on some government mission
But really it’s a twelve year old boy
Using you for his ***** emission
It’s a trap and a trick
To get lovesick
Over someone you can’t really know
But somehow it happens
Over and over again
To Heartbreak Hotel
We go

I don’t know what I’m searching for
With this poetry
It certainly means
Something to me
My ego massaged
Maybe
To be the Creator
Of poetry

I feel the effect
Of your neglect
But that’s something you’ll never see
When you don’t ever look at me

Gone
I may be
But it brought him no joy
To get rid of me

Imperfection within myself
Present, surely
But you ain’t gonna make me see
When you say it meanly

When am I gonna be good enough to get the haters who come along and downvote every complimentary comment?
What’s a girl gotta do to attract a hater or two?

I want to ****** your dark places
And spaces
Tell me what keeps you from sleep
Unburden yourself from the secrets you keep
Give me your story of guilt and remorse
Walk me through your mind’s obstacle course
Show me your ugly
Share all the bitter
Truths and lies that make up your litter
Splay yourself all over the scene
In my mind’s eye
Lose control; laugh and cry
Pound your fists on the ground
And ask God “why?!”
Share who you are
Give it a try
I promise you no matter what I see
I will search for it’s beauty
No matter how ugly it be

Be doubtful of assumptions made about
People
You don’t particularly like
Your view is skewed.
And you are probably blind to it
