Butterflies fluttering in his belly

Grab the rung of the ladder with courage
It all begins with a single step (with faith)
Fear is a prerequisite to acting bravely
Stare the challenge in the eyes
Take a deep breath... then act
Victory is waiting on the other side

There is something
about good food that is magical
The magnetic force of its aroma
gets your nose hooked even from afar,
gets your mind picturing its appearance
And when you have it before your eyes,
The mouth is all watered up like
soil after a heavy downpour of rain.
The teeth are warming up to squeeze
the juice out of the food
The taste buds are leaping for joy,
Ready to savour the taste
The muscles in the throat are roaring in anticipation for the food to go through like
a train going through a tunnel
The stomach is ready and eager to be filled
How magical good food is!

If the love of money is the root of all evil
Greed (covetousness) is its stem
Heartlessness would be its branches
Immorality, its leaves
Destruction and misery, the fruits
The tree of condemnation, stay off!

If someone has broken your heart
Don't let them rob you of the pieces
Holding a grudge against them or
not letting go of the wrong they did you
Is you literally handing them
the pieces of your broken heart
It's okay to feel pained, it's fine to cry but
Don't let them deposit hate in you
(I know it's easier said than done but)
Let go...
Rebuild the broken pieces like a puzzle
Build something even more beautiful
'cause the loss is theirs and not yours
Don't let them bring you down, stand TALL
Above all, protect your joy and happiness!

Criminally minded politicians
acting saints
Evil doers getting praised
Innocent ones stuck in chains
The rich and ***** go scot-free
While the poor is severely punished

On the streets, cops ****
Skin color is still an issue
Several hundreds die 'cause of their religious beliefs
Drug overdose is on the increase
Gangbanging in the hoods still claiming lives
I hate guns
but a gun is not killer, humans are!

Genuine trust is as rare as the Unicorn
Maybe the beautiful souls are yet to be born or they are long gone

What of the epidemy of baby mama and baby dads
Kids raised with no father figure in their lives
They’ve got to find their way in a world so evil
They end up been taken advantage of and
Many becoming parents in their teens

We live in a society
Where getting money is rated higher
than living with integrity
Who cares if someone is getting hurt,
so far my pocket is getting fat
The thoughts of a self-centered heart

Even the environment is suffering
Global warming
Plastics in the oceans
Tons and tons of trees are fell
Our rivers and seas are polluted
At the end of the day,
We all face the consequences

Computers are helping a lot
But also taking people's jobs
A lot are depressed
From spending too much time on the internet
Tortured by other's fake online presence

I bet you, the list goes on and on...
It almost feels like a curse
How do we save ourselves from ourselves
How do we separate the chaff from the wheat?
How do we redeem the beasts in human skin?
I guess it all begins with you and me
Nothing but love can restore our sanity

Limitation starts in the mind
The feeling that your hands are bound
Whereas the opportunities are vast
A closed mind is worse than blind eyes
Looking but yet can't see
What you call a problem
Could also be called an opportunity
At the end of the day,
What you've called it is exactly what you'll experience.

Overanxious about tomorrow
Forgetting to live in the present
Ungrateful for the breath, that's
one thing that cannot be borrowed

To whom is tomorrow guaranteed
What's the need for all the greed
Sometimes, it's needful to take a chill
Slow down and create lovely memories

Spend quality time with families
Sit round the table,
eating home cooked meals
It's important to reach all your dreams
But don't lose yourself in the journey.

Once beaten, twice shy
Broken wings can still fly
Some people won't just even try
I was knocked down but
with one arm, I took flight

Staggered in the air for a little while
Before gaining my balance
I almost believed their lies that
I won't make it beyond a few feet

A stitch in time saves nine
With the doubters, I didn't bother
wasting my own time

I straightway got on my grind
With a fully determined mind
I used their naysaying as gas
Now, I'm balanced above the clouds
Where they told me I will never reach

Now they are questioning me like,
how did you even do it?
I simply replied... By facing my fears
It definitely took blood and tears

But I couldn't back off
I'm grateful that my resilience is finally paying off
And I'm just getting started,
this is just the take off.

Highness derived
when holding the game controller
A sense of being in control
But in the real sense,
You are the one being controlled
Mind, energy and focus drowned in the gameplay
A mixture of pleasure and frustration
Ears shut to all other things
A time of total concentration
Relentless determination to win
I'll try for the last time
Repeated that line for the hundredth time
Isn't this supposed to be for relaxation
How come I'm more stressed than ever before?

Mama's words never cease to echo in my mind
Son...
Always remember the son of whom you are
Remember the home you're from

Steer away from greed, it drowns
Jealousy and comparison will pull you down
What you think of yourself is your truth
Never take that which doesn't belong to you

Do good expecting nothing in return
Don't pay evil back with its kind
Love yourself and remember to be kind
Money is good but it won't buy good character

In all that you do, protect you name and image
Love your neighbor as yourself
Do away with pride
Remember the son of whom you are!

A damsel sitted alone at the bar
When my eyes landed on her
I immediately lost my train of thoughts
I froze in the middle of my words
Mouth left ajar
Looking at God's finished work of art
What is an angel doing here on earth?
The question running through my mind
I put myself together to go have a word with her
Before I could get up on my feet
Her man approached her from behind
And planted a kiss on her cheek
For a second, I was cheesed to the bone
But I moved on and enjoyed my night

She was a kind woman
He was the exact opposite
An angel in a human flesh, she was
But he was a wolf in a sheep's skin
She would go out of her way to help people
But he always took advantage of people
She never tried to change him
She just loved him unconditionally
Her nature was a mirror to his cruelty
He couldn't help but cherish her modesty
One night, he was bathed in tears
After realizing what **** of a person he was
That moment was the genesis of his redemption
He became a changed man
And the love between them blossomed even more
In less than a year after,
He was bold enough to put the ring on it
And they lived happily ever after!

Two statements that seem similar
But they induce opposite feelings
The first is, I am not good enough
And the second; I am not there, yet

The first one clips your wings down
stopping you from flapping and flying
It is demotivating and depressing
Do not use or believe it when used on you

The latter reminds you where you're headed
Like a kid that falls several times
before being able to walk smoothly
You will be there and even go beyond
So, crawl, walk, run and soar!

There is a beast in social media
that keeps asking for more
More, more, more, it yells
Drawing blood out of me
Writing my brain out
To the last pint of blood in my vein
But still, the beast won't back off
This creative juice of mine needs to replenish
So, no blood for you today!

Man's number one quest
Is to find happiness and peace of mind
But most times,
He goes finding it at the wrong place
or in the wrong things

He devotes all his time to getting money
Even at the expense of his family
Finally, he gets the wealth and riches
But his happiness is nowhere to be found
Then he starts buying expensive things to fill the void

Little does he know that
Happiness from material things
quenches like fire on a match stick
But happiness from within is hard to extinguish

He's seen as the happiest by others
But deep within him, he's seeking for order
He's ready to trade all he's got for happiness and peace of mind

Only if he knew that
his happiness has been within him all the time
Even way before the fame and the riches
Now, he's living life in misery
Repercussion of a shallow mind

I hope you and I won't fall in that trap
We'll get the money without jeopardizing
our happiness and peace of mind
We'll enjoy the journey basking in the beauty of the moment.

I wear Your love like a garment
Beauty upon my flesh
A crown placed upon my head
A pair of shoes to my feet
Decorated from my head to my sole

Your love is protection to my being
The light that shines along my path
A lamp to my feet
My comfort in time of need
Your love is everything to me!

Love is a universal language
A language that cuts across all human races
A language craved for by all ages;
from babies to the aged

It's better understood when felt than heard
Its dictionary is the heart
If spoken, it keeps people in unison
But sadly...
It appears not to be people's language of choice

Take me to the world of poetry
Where the syllables are colourful as flowers
The rhyme flows like a river
The message sheds light like the Sun
The metaphorical expressions send shivers down my spine

As I journey through the stanzas,
I wanna smell the sweet fragrance of its words
Dive into its lake of deep emotions
Ride through its different terrains and styles
Enwrap me in its poetic layers
Take me to the world of poetry
I was told I will never want to leave

Then God looked over all He had made,
and He saw that it was very good!

Then I looked at all the poetry I created
and I saw they are all beautiful!

He's ready to trade all he has for happiness
Little did he know that
Happiness has been within him
even before the he got money

The milk has spilled already
The next question is,
What are you gonna do about it?
Just sit there and cry?
Pick yourself up and continue to fly?
Hide in the corner 'cause you're shy?
Would you define yourself by your mistakes
Or rather learn one or two things
and make yourself a better person
by using the mistakes as resources?

Financially rich
But empathetically broke
Owning a lot but
Not helping the people within their reach
That's not the type of life I want to live
Success is not always about the wealth acquired
But also what you've been able to give
It is said that,
it is more blessed to give than to receive
That is what it means to truly live
