Locked In A Cell
locked in a cell
thinking of you
no warm arms
for me to run to

I committed a crime
so bad
I left the girl who
loved me something bad

asking myself
why did I do this crime?
I'm nothing but
a low down piece of slime

locked in a cell
thinking of you
no warm arms
for me to run to

I'd reverse the actions
that I took
but here I am going
through my charge book

I can't stand
living without you
locked in my lonely cell
what can I do?

locked in a cell
thinking of you
no warm arms
for me to run to

Man's Hand
man hath placed
his ruinous hand
on the Earth's finest attributes
no service to the natural world
hath man imparted

he cuts the trees down
he digs holes in the ground
he pollutes the atmosphere
he spills oil on the pristine coral reefs
and the list of his misdeeds
go on and on...

man shall pay
for the ruin
he hath wrought upon the planet
his unfeeling hand
touches ever corner
of planet

a day of reckoning
isn't far away
all the beauteous assets
shall all be blown away

man has yet to realize
that he needs
to protect the planet
for future generations
that are yet to come

there is only one planet
for humanity to live on
and where will we go
when man's hand
has ruined
this Earth's
magnificent show

a message
a clarion call
a megaphone

man's hand
touches the planet
without a properly
conceived thought

Mist Of Time
mist of time
oh love of mine

on that night
neath the moon
you promised me
a love boon

by the fading days
of May
our love
had frayed

mist of time
oh love of mine

the vine of our love
untied
its affection
died

mist of time
oh love of mine

Ladder Wanting To Roam
the outside of the house
was looking rather dull
and over a color chart
I did ponder and mull

a shade of maroon
made for great appeal
so did a rich shade
of Kensington teal

with the color decided
for the paint job
into the local hardware store
I did nonchalantly lob

the chap behind the counter
asked if he could assist
I said of course you can
as I waved my wrist

we walked to the paint and putty
section of the store
where there were gallons of paint
sitting on the floor

we discussed the advantages
and disadvantages of exterior gloss
and I opted for a shade
known by the name of Rock Moss

the paint was placed in the trunk
of my Nissan four wheel drive
I then set out for home with a paint
which would bring my house alive

the overalls that were in the tool shed
I quickly hauled on
and I proceeded to paint
the exterior walls with great aplomb

there I was on ladder high
slapping the paint brush around
when all of a sudden
I landed face first on the ground

the house painting job
came to an abrupt finish
ye olde ladder and I parted company
after the skirmish

a painting contractor is finalizing
what I didn't quite complete
and by next Friday week
he'll have the outside of the house looking neat

it has been an adventure
improving the exterior of my home
yet I wouldn't have had the adventure
but for the ladder wanting to roam
a luscious dawn stirred, his arrow was on fire
he went in quest of delight, vigorous his desire

among the sheet ruffles, a delicious fruit lay
flaxen hair ever so bright, fueled his amorous desire

the mercury rose in his veins, he kissed her hungrily
with an ardor of might, strongly expressing his desire

his feasting twas unrestrained, her gems were enticing
more comely than any twilight, his was a pyre of desire

at commencement of day, he partook of a bonfire passion
meshing her in a flaming light, robust his coals of desire
leaving the city lights and traffic behind
leaving them for a destination of a more open kind
need to get out into the countryside
need to embrace the landscape so wide

too long in the hustle and bustle
it's too much of a crush on the mind and muscles
tired of the urban scene
tired of its atmosphere so mean

wandering amid the iron bark stands
getting to feel the essence of the land
all of those city monkeys off my back
living in a rustic bush shack
stars in the night skies  looking down on me
this is where my heart wants to be

fleeing the crowded walkways
changing address
out in the countryside
no more pressure or stress

leaving the city lights and traffic behind
leaving them for a destination of a more open kind

A Storm Is Brewing
a storm is brewing
over Bakers Creek
and the sound of the thunder
is less than meek

streaks of lightning
have hit the tall gum trees
and scattered
the small native bush bees

dim grey tones
have replaced the sunlight
the tempest is ensuing
with all its mighty

out of the full clouds
the rain now generously falls
rolling thunder echoes
through the Westerly wind squalls

on the bare hillsides
the dampness soaks in
giving the soil
a good drenching to the skin

the dusty track is laden
with wetness
which leaves a smell
of sweet earthiness

the storm has passed
and quietness descends
it is making its way
across the Clerkness wends

then it shall travel
along the Eastern range pines
until it resounds
over the topaz blue coastline

Mississippi River
Mississippi River I love you
You're the sweetest girl a boy ever knew
I can't wait to be back in your arms
And to feel the wonder of your charms

I'm catching a greyhound at eight tonight
I want to see your beauty at first light
I'm thinking about you all the time
I long to be in the presence of your soft flowing line

No longer can I be far from you
You're the only girl for this boy so true
Mississippi River I'm in no doubt
You're the treasure I can't be without

Mississippi River I love you
You're the sweetest girl
A boy ever knew

Mountain's Peaks
a revival of the spirit
he sought in the mountain's terrain
there he'd meet with inner peace
resting in his veins

the clutter in his thoughts
expunged by the spruce tree's lovely scent
there his mind could serenely wander
in this mellow firmament

his soul had been heavily
cloaked in the daily grind
of which he did gladly unyoke
to again feel aligned

the mountain's recess
was for him a place of restoration
where his life force
obtained needed recreation

to his central pith
a tranquil breeze did speak
calling him to return
to the mountain's peaks

Spite
a third party
oft brings and end
to a budding
romance
tearing the other woman
down
with her not so nice
parlance

one suspected
she was scheming
against me
she'd been telling
my man
to be well shod of me

he took notice
of her every utterance
she put her devious knife
into my back
to derail any love we'd share
down the track

that most vile woman
will regret
what she's been saying
as I'll be letting her husband
know of the games
she's been playing

one man isn't
quite enough
for her voracious appetite
she's got to take
another woman's man
to satisfy her spite

Horrific Lament
how benevolent
our government has been
supporting immigrants
with the taxpayer's
generous Welfare scheme
yet a percentage
of these immigrants
use the taxpayer's money
for dubious means
they travel abroad to places
where radicalism is indoctrinated
and the message
they are inculcated with
is one of killing
they fly back into our country
with their minds
full of slogans
and deadly propaganda
one of these persons
could be in any of our cities or towns
freely walking the streets
a radicalized individual
maybe known to us
he or she planning a terrorist attack
inside our continent
our taxpayer dollars
exploited for ill intent
our government has gathered intelligence
on these persons
of radical bent
their Welfare payments
are to be cut off
which shall choke off
their horrific lament

Sad Sad Showers
sad sad showers
since you went away
sad sad showers
falling everyday

the skies shaded
in a gloomy splay
the sun's happiness
no more on display

your leaving
cut deep into my soul
much deeper
than any cavernous hole

our love over
finished and done
our love at end
my world moribund

no solace can I find
for my aching heart
now that you've
torn it apart

sad sad shower
where are the sun's rays
sad sad showers
the showers parlay
I have a job's list longer than an arm
But none of them bring to me loads of charm
Where to start is the question that I ask
I ponder which one to give a top spot
They all implore me to get on the trot

From the kitchen dishes yell out to me
So does the floor beg for my housemaid's knee
In these gross chores I don't want to bask
Yet they require my urgent attention
The state of my digs not worth a mention

Once I have an energy burst come to me
The job's lengthy list will be whittled down
I wish to rid my house of it's grubby frown
Without further adieu I'll busy as a bee

A lethargy hath encompassed thy quill
Henceforth no ink shall it profusely spill
Twill seek rest in a lovely countryside glade
Daily markings on a page shall conclude
It shall take time to imbibe in quietude
Thy quill's tiredness hath been narrated
It's verve did slowly become deflated
Dwindling away to a lifeless shade
No fetching flourishes e'er on display
The spirited light hath gone from its day
Thy quill departs to refresh and revive
As it's energies are verily listless
Doth come an hour for repose's sought redress
Tis sure to make it feel truly alive

Recall Phase
the mind often traces back
to events of the past
the recall of these memories
endure and last

the day Johnny started school
in nineteen sixty three
the night the possum
jumped out of the old gum tree

the memories flood back
they are relived for a while
the ones that made you cry
so too the ones that made you smile

they are stored in the mind
for our recollection
pictures in our photograph galleries
our own personal collections

this is nostalgia
reflecting on events of past days
bought to mind every so often
when our thoughts are in recall phase

Illusory Dream
daddy's brow was wrinkled in despairing woe
he'd planted a cotton crop by the river Neosho

a long lasting drought gripped the fields
which finished daddy's cotton yields

in the year of nineteen thirty two
months of dryness did relentlessly ensue

daddy cried out for rain
his crop lands were in such dire pain

the soil set to a crust so hard
nothing flourished in daddy's cotton yard

he'd sweated and toiled in the grit all day long
where his hopes faded of harvesting a bright song

the fool's gold of cotton farming was an illusory dream
which spoiled daddy's income stream

our local football team
are at the top of the district comp
this season
they've had a winning romp
with superior play and skills galore
they've left other teams
flagging at the bottom of the draw
this year Billy Dwyer has coached
them with great aplomb
that's why the team's position
is looking so plum
for a decade the team never got
any further than the ladder's lowest rung
the town's folk are grinning
from ear to ear
with the good results the team
is having on the footy fields around here
the captain of the team
is confident that the premiership
can be achieved
as the lads on the team
are dedicating themselves
to rolling up the sleeves
there is but another few weeks
of footy to go
and our local lads
are in with a good show
they'll be on the filed
this afternoon
putting in 100%
to proceed to
the trophy's ascent

its wonderland, ne'er close to reach

as time marched on, hopes faded away
thy heart's sunshine, in gloomy shade
thy heart's sunshine, in gloomy shade
thy heart's hopes faded in gloomy shade
as the sunshine marched away

on solitary shore, without warming ember
on solitary shore, without warming ember
a lonely refrain, doth play on thy island
a lonely refrain, doth play on thy island
on island shore without ember warming
a solitary lonely refrain doth play

in solitary dream of thy heart's sunshine
a wonderland faded in gloomy shade
without ember warming thy island hopes
marched away in time to a lonely refrain
thy island shore doth play
ne'er close thee to reach love

Sobriety
I'm a reformed man
my destructive habit has been cast out
a good-hearted woman
showed me how to bring it about

with her understanding ways
she helped me give up the grog
and life is so much better
now that I'm no longer veiled in the grog's fog

on the path back to sobriety
her supportive hand guided me
with its never ending
belief and solidity

she is a redemptive angel
in my eyes
she gave me reason
to see a clean sun rise

the grog couldn't stay
in my confused life
as it had imparted
much too much strife

this day I am a reborn man
a good woman took hold of my hand

her love and care
showed me how to kick the grog
and she has lead me
out of its murky fog
Grog is an Australian slang term for *****.

Lost
a seed a leaf a breath
marvel of this embryonic
miraculous course seen motionless
never akin to cyclonic

ache deep the thought of forever parted
never again paths to cross
tearing within breathless and hopeless
counting costs forever lost

early the mist of unknown confusion
turning again and again
wondering which slant of the head
may find the hand of a friend

reaching in dark timeless abyss
knowing yet crumbling in doubt
fear yet brave mellow mature
insanities reach hereabout

short be the breath in time infinite
judged by the blink of an eye
unsettled soul caught in a marvel
of flickering life flashing by

odor and taste bitter yet sweet
pull of a faltering heart
in step with the piper calling the tune
hoping again not this start
