White Paint (Sonnet)
upon this morning's topaz blue parchment
an artist has been working with white paint*
his picture brings the eye such enjoyment
a thin smear he's applied so very faint
to the long wispy tails which are flicking
behind them the fuller ones of contrast
they have scalloped edges on their ticking
all of these abstract shapes moving fast
daubing a light pink shade on quite a few
which hover over the river's slow flow
as yet he's not finished with his view
on the east hills a hint of sun does show
quite a canvas he's composed to-day

The King's Realm
fair maidens and harlots alike
all were hopeful that the king
would preference their riding bike

the regent didn't much care
where he could place his stick
of it he'd so liberally share

his queen sat crying on her throne
wondering where the sovereign
was pointing his starched bone

after twenty years the ruler's realm
fell into a state of feminine war
all wanting to be his main helm

the appendage with wilt did flag
******* finishing off its stroke
in an undesirable drooping sag
At the outset of a variable weather day
Sunlight spangles danced in the skies above
Was such a brilliance of radiant beams
As mid afternoon drew closer a change did arrive
In the grey smudged clouds rolled
Replacing the bright morn's festival

Whereupon came a moistening festival
Raindrops fell for the rest of the day
Down the damp quenching rolled
The billows unloading from high above
Which farmers were gladdened to see arrive
Their worried brows begat more calming beams

Fields lush in verdant vibrant green beams
The wetting so joyous of a happy festival
Dutiful was the timely drink's arrive
A difference made within a single day
Welcome were the heavy showers gifted above
Pasture lands looking minted and gold rolled

The reverse clime's dices had been rolled
Water storages filled with streaming beams
Such a gracious endowment up above
Unto landholders giving a grand festival
Altering the complexion of the day
Providence surrendered on needed arrive

A goodly amount of thirst saving did arrive
On the dark masses prospect being rolled
There was an improved outlook to the day
Ever men of acreage seek hopeful beams
So they can enjoy a precipitation festival
Wishing upon the receipt in clouds above

In their thoughts what is happening above
When will the heaven's bestowments arrive
Always championing the dowsing's festival
Then for them soils ideally bank rolled
On conditions being sated so nicely of beams
Will the soaking occur on this day

Festival glee awaited in the atmosphere above
Day did dawn with a dazzling sun's arrive
Rolled by the promise of eve's drenching beams

Riding Instructions
in the first race at Newcastle
the favourite got a hiding
other horses in the field ran to
the beat of solid riding

from the get go the favourite
was placed under the gun
he used up too much petrol
in the fast paced run

punters were furious
with the jockey in the pigskin
for he was supposed to pilot
the horse to a glorious win

at the start of the race
he applied too much speed
to stay in touch with the horses
who were out in the lead

when the field got between
the six and seven hundred meter pegs
it was apparent that the favourite
had no power left in his four legs

though he ran close to the inside rail
throughout the whole race
his performance turned out to be
a trainer's nightmarish disgrace

the jockey was given strict riding
instructions before the event
hold a steady clip and save
the horse from becoming too spent

but alas the race plan went
terribly awry and well off course
which ensured that the conquest
was obtained by another horse

Hang On!
a lynch-man
in the Tennessee hills
had run out of hanging thrills
so he decided
to travel
a few hundred miles
crossing the border
into Arkansas
with his new hemp ropes
at the ready
he sized up
the governor's and his spouse's
necks
saying nonchalantly to himself
what the heck
then over the highest branch
he flung the noosing strings
and corralled
the wicked corrupt two
into an inescapable pen
round their napes
he placed
the stricture of the knots
which he'd pulled
very tight
and said farewell
saying to them
hang on
I'll be back later
to see how you're both fairing

Red Sentinels (Sonnet)
Red sentinels stood in the valley lands
This timeless place parched by baking sun
These soldiers weathered in wearing strands
They'd resisted the climes  endless run
This battle a monument to being so brave
Holding the line in such a stoic posture
Of the quarter they'd guard unto the grave
No lasting winds changing their composure
From dawn to dusk these feisty sandstone troops
Have taken on the climate's daily strikes
To attest the triumph of lasting hoops
Which have defied the assaulting spikes
They've shown heroics in this their fight
Waging it with an enduring might
mum always quoted

Why do us poets
always let these jerks
who do not even
have an atom
of creativity
decide the value
and level
of our creativity?

ES.

Given that us
but meek poetic folk
have a humbleness
to our line of yolk
we permit these ignorant jerks
a liberal latitude
to openly express
their aimless platitudes

SBN.

Why do us poets
fall for the trends
and applause
it occasionally brings
knowing full well
it is all merely ephemeral
and what is permanent
is our depression so dismal?

ES.

We are cajoled
by the transient ovation
which resounds with much
brevity in its adulation
thence follows our
despondency of wretchedness
that descends into
a despairing grimness

SBN.

When will us poets
ever decide
that we do not care two hoots
for cheap popularity
and that our creations
are too valuable really
for some **** to **** on them
and make and mostly break them?

ES.

Oh for us true poets
to be admired with a fervent zeal
by those jerks who've
not a scrap of poetic appeal
unto us they can
dollop their excrement pile
for we shall surpass them
with our flash penning style

So let us take in our hands
our own poetic destiny
lets write on time's shifting sand
and ensure our poetic integrity

Favorite Site
this morning I'm wearing
a rather longish frown
as one of my favorite sites
has unexpectedly shut down

they gave no advance warning
of being off air
last night when I went there
everything was looking fair

panic and horror have struck
at the pit of my gut
twill my beloved site remain
forever shut

others who visit this domain
are also under much strain
they are feeling
a most terrible pain

the site management
haven't yet answered my emails
would seem that all communication
is as slow as a troop of snails

not one word have I heard
from the other end
the whole situation
has driven me around the bend

not being able to gain
access to my longstanding account
hath been so upsetting
and so hard to surmount

a most trying start to the day
one has had to endure
the site being down
without any sign of a cure

later this Wednesday evening
one shall hop online
to see if the site is traveling
in a manner fine

one must be hopeful
of the domain running along well
then one shall have admittance
into its oyster shell
With the third test in the series, now fast drawing to a close
The Australian team is ahead, by a veritable elephant's nose
This last session of play, they've scored the more than a run
Which has not filled, the Indian side with a stump load of fun

A substantial lead, has been built by the Aussie side
They've held their nerve, on the MCG's cricketing bide
Each ball they've faced, has not made them cower in any way
No Indian spinners or quickies, have yet put them away

After this match, there's sure to be a question put forward
As to why India ne'er got, that prized win on the board
Though they did attempt, to pepper Australia with mace
They weren't successful, with their bowling or batting grace

The series of five test matches, is no more alive and kicking
As our Australian side, weren't on the pitch to take a licking
India put in a supreme and gallant effort, during the game's play
But the Australian side, were out to unmake their day

Summer
the sun stays
hot all day long
its beating rays
ever so strong

the heat that
is imparted by it
doth burn the skin
quite a bit

unto a shady spot
we all scurry
to get out of the sun's
searing flurry

for it doth drain
the energy store
with an uncomfortable
hellish score

tis much like
a scorching fireside
which we cannot
well abide

at the hour of three
in the eve
sweat freely flows
on a sleeve

we welcome
the wind's cooling puff
that gives relief
from the sun's cuff

summer doth bring
a Hades call
of which we feel
its feverish ball
