Hot Seat (Rondeau)
we've been perched on the hot seat
from this weather there's no retreat
a week of the sun pouring scorn
no wonder we're feeling so worn
day break confirms more of its beat

reprieve not coming to the pleat
air temps truly stifling of bleat
they're so draining our seared corn
we've been perched on the hot seat

summers not being a pleasant treat
consistent the burn of defeat
far too much of it did adorn
we await a cooler fall morn
to breeze in with a notice neat
we've been perched on the hot seat

Hoax
the man had hypnotic power
he drew people in
they thought he was of charismatic

whatever he'd say or do
they'd so senselessly agree to
as if they were blinded*
by a beguiling view

gullible they who didn't closely
examine what he was about

A Complement of Three Legs
a complement of three legs
kept the realm in a wobbly
modality
to have had a fourth one
would give an upright
totality

as this important limb
was missing in a forgotten
land
the locale disintegrated
like a pan of moving
sand

the domain being beset by
ills too many to
mention
hence the citizens cried out
for another pole's
attention

Quick Despense
some have totally rejected
the protocols that were
carefully written down
choosing not to heed
their intent
taking the approach
of we'll follow
an unconstrained
bent

the conventions state
in a transparent glass
never of our purpose
should there be
any unpermitted
pass

adhering to terms and conditions
isn't an arduous task
they're so concise in respect
of what they ask

some enjoy free wheeling
though it will come at an expense
for not to remain within the parameters
means a quick despense
A work colleague and I were talking about our work place protocols. After the discussion, I decided to pen a poem on that theme.

Refilling The Shoes
refilling the shoes
of truly great men
is a task not
within lesser men
the shoes too large
for them to comprehend
a depth and breadth
so extraordinary of rend

these shoes are super
in their magnitude
of which a menial foot
could never altitude
to think other wise
shows no aptitude
fittings of this calibre
require plenitude

trying them on
for size why do that?

knowing full well
there's a gauging bat
where men of capacity

shoe filling takes
much adroitness

Expression's Train
our kith were shunted off the stage's
platform
by a rather churlish troop out of
uniform

the rag-tag unite wielded influence's harsh
stick
on being bought to bear down, it really did the
trick

with our kin ousted from the writing

we had every reason to feel more than
grave

exerting a controlling interest on our family's
glow

the community is the poorer for not seeing clan members
again
a disreputable bunch sidelining their expression's

Candid Relay (Trolaan)
gleefully he rubbed his hands together
goodly dough inflows would ring the till
generous amounts from wallet leather
greatly bolstering the enterprise's gill

lots of quids a bank rolling treasure chest
loving the sound that the money word made
liberally taking it for the poet's nest
leveraging what they'd place in his lade

only a select few owning credit line
oh and their income got good will galore
opening the site up as a gold mine

now an abundance of fees buys backing
negotiations are done this very way
never forget what's been in her tracking

of carnal exploitation
which he did perform

afore the rains fell

Terzanelle

The Terzanelle is a poetry type which is a combination of the villanelle and the terza rima forms. It is a 19-line poem consisting of five interlocking triplets/tercets plus a concluding quatrain in which the first and third lines of the first triplet appear as refrains. The middle line of each triplet is repeated, reappearing as the last line of the succeeding triplet with the exception of the center line of the next-to-the-last stanza which appears in the quatrain. The rhyme and refrain scheme for the triplets is as follows:

1. A
2. B
3. A

4. b
5. C
6. B

7. c
8. D
9. C

10. d
11. E
12. D

13. e
14. F
15. E

Ending Type 1:

16. f
17. A
18. F
19. A

Ending Type 2:

16. f
17. F
18. A
19. A

Each line of the poem should be the same metrical length.

as if they were message ringing

The Narcissist
an all consuming love*
took hold of the narcissist
his great admiration for self
was the everlasting gist

in front of the mirror he stood
kissing his own reflection
whilst at it saying I'm so deserving
of my steadfast affection

yes he was absorbed
in a love profound of pond
this being the love he'd
keep fervently fond

no one else could love him
with such a richness of care
cause he was unable to
empathetically share

the love he did bear inside
his indulgent infantile heart
would never be completely

The poet crew were getting error notes
As their captain slumbered below deck
No aiding was forthcoming in the wreck
Their many calls unheard by his ear totes
Prays said for the server to be righted
For some while it had been out of kilter
And not one post could go through the filter
Like forever they'd be badly blighted
A rapid fire response oh where was that?
Verse writers invoked this very refrain
Ever their words unseen on the site's log
Forsaken by a skipper sleeping flat
They felt so alone without rescue's wain
Drifting as if mired in a thick fog

a thief was spotted
