The moment I realized I could be more than my past
I found the key that unlocked the door
that was holding back my potential,
wings made of sunshine
and a halo that burned just as bright
my soul finding the light that almost forgot its existence
old fingers turned new
and years of sorrow transformed into
something that felt more real
more alive than my own heart had felt
in 10 years
there was a change
that broke open my veins
cracking my ribcage as it
took flight towards something different
than the ash and dark it was trapped in
and a longing crawled out
past my teeth
that were no longer fangs
and that longing was for life
something that I forgot that I had
and never expected to feel again

I remember the evening
that we sat clinging
to paper cups
of coffee gone cold

over secrets spilled and memories told
two bodies cursed
with hearts grown old

behind your eyes
I found new worlds
A winding road stretched out for miles
to a small cafe at the end of the isle

Sweet pastries filled the mouths
of those who sat beside us
and stayed for a while.

How the hours went by,
people just passing through
The descending sun ending
a forever with you.
Friends bring out
beautiful things
in each other....
that on one else
looks hard enough
to find....
In the distance, I observe
hoping to discover them raw feelings
our souls serve.
Sometimes without even warning us.

We fall but we don't break,
and when we break we feel
like we're falling.

Always in the distance,
I observe.
Last year I was a flower
That the sun never quite reached
I was overgrown with weeds
Never growing to my full potential

This year i’ll be a flower garden
full bloom, basking in the sun
I’ll cut down the weeds around me
Surround myself with other flowers
We’ll make each other beautiful

This year will be happy because I said so
I won’t allow myself to be pushed
Into the shadows
I’ll fight for the sunlight I deserve
And with it I will bloom
Over and over again,
I will bloom
