Darling I’ve left you
My little note reads
That’s a shocker to stumble across
As you place down the keys

Darling I’ve left you
And gone to parts very much unknown
Please don’t bother trying to ring me
I’ve snipped the linecord on the phone

Darling I’ve left you
Your dinners in the dog
The jeans wore for your fancy piece
Are floating in the bog

Darling I’ve left you
Are the crocodile tears coming out
You really thought you’d keep it a secret
Just how much you were putting it about

Darling I’ve left you
The savings account is bone dry
And as for my life insurance
You’ll get f’all when I finally die

Darling I’ve left you
For a woman who doesn’t make me sick
Caring, loving and sexually active
Not like you you arrogant p*k!

The ocean
How I long to understand the ocean
And visit it’s many rooms
To see what secrets await me
To find what in the darkness looms
Creatures the size of mountains
Visitors creating their home
From the sky’s outer realms
A civilisation that chooses to roam
Maybe your just dark and empty
Lonely and devoid of life
Waiting to be cut right open
Like a butcher with meat and his knife
Fathoms down deep below
My imagination is running wild
Hidden in your icy waters
Are the ugly and deeply reviled
Rise up and show us your treasures
As I can’t take away the sea
But you can reveal your hand
Especially to curious little me

The Sea Serpent
Way down deep
In the lower regions of earth
Lies a very ancient monster
Awaiting its rebirth
It’s skin all jagged and cracked
With teeth all withered and redundant
The lair it’s resides in is disturbed
Making its uprising more abundant
The drills are digging deeper
Smashing through water and ice
Anger is raging inside it
It’s revenge will not be nice
Banished by gods own hands
A demon that polluted the waves
Killing anything put before him
Destruction is the vice that he craves
Boats shake upon the water
Scientific minds with puzzled stares
Fear strikes all the crew men
As it’s them that the beast ensnares
Leave alone my beautiful ocean
Your curiosity has now set me free
Gigantic is it’s form as it rises
Surging out of the deep blue sea
Beware the angry serpent
Stay away from the waters so deep
Turn back while time allows you
And just hope that the monster falls back to sleep

Big brother
From cradle to the grave
I feel like your protector
Like a roof above a house
I won’t let trouble ever effect her
The sadness that wells inside
When you tell me of your simple woes
How I manage to keep my head
God only knows

From the cot to your house
I keep a subconscious eye
Like a psychic bringing foretold futures
I do this to the day I die
Nobody will ever hurt you
While I’m living in my skin
As I tread this strange life path
Your care I will hold therein

Swimming
Dipping and bobbing and caressing the waves
Wriggling like human fish
A sensation my body craves
Cold and wet like a slobbering fool
My skin gets tickled
In the swimming pool
Silent and glorious and totally pain free
Thinking of nothing
Just my brain and me
Lucid and clear and totally aquatic
The frothy deep blue
Makes me feel all ecstatic
Refreshed and clean with confidence brimming
How I love to partake
In a touch of beautiful swimming

A poem for lovers
Hello dear happiness
I wonder how you found me
On this day of imperial dread
I never sought your help
Quite the opposite to tell the truth
As I spent the day in bed
Like the serpent as it invaded Adams garden
You just slithered in
Without a pardon
And as I flittered my tired eyes
The warmness of your softening skin
Was a welcoming surprise
So thank you dear happiness
As I cuddle you closely
On this morning of bright sunshine
And as I hold you even tighter
The world outside
Now seems beautiful and lighter

Sunday boring Sunday
Why are Sunday’s so boring
Why is the world half asleep
Why do I still love the smell of a Sunday dinner
Why are car parks so cheap
Why are shopping centres so empty
Why do supermarkets seem to thrive
Why do church’s get busy
Why is the tv crap on channel five
Why do car boots seem bigger
Why are christenings always on this day
Why did Songs of Praise end
Why did Harry Secombe go away
Why are all the same films shown
Why does the Wimbledon final sometimes run late
Why do kids get Easter eggs
Why do my kids get me up before eight
Why am I moaning more than ever
Why am not alseep and snoring
Why have I wrote this silly poem
Oh thats right, it’s sunday, and it’s boring

Orphan 7
The thunderclap roar of a distant storm
Stirs my senses in the silent dorm
Lifting my legs over the metallic frame
The cold jolt I feel is always the same
As my tiny feet touch the icy floor
I cautiously look towards the shadowy door
Sound is lost like a soul in limbo
So I carefully tiptoe to the rain dowsed window
The street below is dark and foreboding
Creating the feeling that the world is corroding
I dream of daddy and mother together
Kissing me goodnight from the land of nether
A car flies past illuminating the room
Revealing the walls of this miserable tomb
Teardrops fall onto my ***** nailed hand
And I wipe them away every time they land
Praying God hears me before I go to heaven
Hoping for a little love to me orphan 7

It has brought us together
Like birds of a feather
The adhesive stuff
Very very clever
They call it the glue of love

It so subtly applies
In a world full of flies
Working through the lies
Very very clever
They call it the glue of love

Hidden behind faces
Finding all the spaces
Hitting tender places
Very very clever

Hiding
A tainted world is lived in
Paper masks hide idle lies
Glorious sunshine sifts through clouds
Blinding the weary eyes
Optimism hovers on cold days
Away from naked untouched truth
Elusive intrusive shadowy feelings
Seem so buried yet so aloof
Shout with your loudest voices
Laugh at humour on the air
A fool will make his own sorrows
Enigmatic is the man without care

The city
Cars and then more cars
Bikes and then more bikes
People and thankfully people
Milling around the city

Bars and then more bars
Takeaways and then more takeaways
Life and thankfully life
Milling around the city

Through Chinatown
The man wears a gown
And makeup and a wig
On the way to his gig
As a drag queen

The Museum
Full of glass
Housing the past
Where the young to the last
Stare in wonder

Rivers and canals
Flowing under bridges
Glistening brown and murky
Keeps me a little perky
As dog walkers study the depths

Street lights and sirens
Smells of exotic foods
Tempting to the thought of eating
Like lions upon a herds meeting
Nothing can compare

Music loud and booming
From the clubs along the streets
As we dance the night away
While time leads us astray
I love my days in the city

Remember
I remember being young
When everyone used to talk
People would speak on the roads
And the kids would talk through chalk
I remember being young
The world seemed full of beans
Everyone appeared connected
And we didn’t have social screens
I remember being young
The television was always fun
Comedy was out of this world
Now its an alien to bbc one
I remember being young
Listening to music that made real sense
Non of this beating monotony
That’s has no depth and is completely dense
I remember being young
Watching sports aimed at fans
The general public made it tick
Not suited men with golden hands
I remember being young
When newspapers were classed as a curse
Exclusives were what they claimed
Now the internet reveals it first
I remember being young
We’d get around without a car
Walking was an enjoyable form of exercise
And nobody cared for how long or how far
I remember being young
You could be yourself without fear
Now it’s all image and expense
Which gets worse year after year
I remember being young
It’s sad that the times don’t stay the same
But I still try and keep some nostalgia
Whilst keeping my feet firmly in the game

Beauty
I’m blissfully aware of the beauty
That tumbles from the sky
Heavy drops of liquid rain
Make me want to cry
I’m fully in tune with nature
From the trees to a buzzing bee
As a wave crashes across a rock
A chrysalis sets a butterfly free
I absorb the heat from the sun
As it’s rays unravel my skin
Making the pale to red
On the vessel that my bones are in
And lastly I ponder the stars
That sparkle and burn in the night
Shooting and fizzing through the dark
They leave my head in wonder and delight
Beneath the clouds
All vegetable on the rocks
He resides
From human eyes

Large and still
And ignored by the gulls
Only seen by a few
Between dimensions old and new

Phantoms are not all human
Or hairy cats and dogs
Some dwell under the winds chorus
Like the ghost of the singing walrus

Often mistaken for the crashing waves
Heard by the sailors while at sea
The walrus bellows its beautiful sound
Like a waterfall hitting the ground

One day the walrus will find the light
And slip to somewhere new
But for now as the earth spins along
The walrus will forever sing it song

Under the bridge
Sat under the bridge
She watched the river
All reeds and ***** water
Nostalgically thinking
Of childhood dreams
And lessons the world had taught her
Chewing on a sandwich
From inside a packet
The freedom was running strong
Remembering school
And friends long gone
She burst into a song
Word for word
And line for line
It made her body sway
A song she loved
That took her back
Would get her through the day
Laying back
Eyes closed
She took a sip from a bottle
Smoking a ***
Whilst drinking beer
Her mind was in full throttle
Just one kiss
A little touch
Was all she wanted in this life
Everything was gone
Her world in ruins

Down by the river
And across the grass
Where the cows roam
And the ramblers pass
Sits my house

Like a humming bird
With a broken wing

There’s barely enough space
For my dressing gown
But I like it really
Cause I’m a bit of a loner
The simple mess

And nobody goes
Except the wind
That frequently blows
Now off you go
And don’t come back
If you follow me again

Breast stroke
I watch my wife swim
As she cuts through water like a knife
And remember my privets need a trim
She’s done breast stroke all her life
A champion in the blue
But a disaster in the household
I guess it’s something Ive always knew
If truth be told
Watching her frolic in the water
Doing length after length after length
I realise family ignorance
Is possibly her biggest strength
She smiles at the young men
Don’t recall her smiling at me
I just take her at nine thirty in the morning
And pick up her up at twenty past three
Today it’s all going to change
Cause today I’m going for broke
Whilst I arrange our divorce
She’ll carry on doing the breast stroke

Let me breath out my chest

Of empty fields and emotional climbs
As the clocks all chime

Let me rest in a place

Then I listen to the cry’s
When they say their goodbyes
You’ve always been taking me anyway

Do I still just say hello
To this world that I should know
Can I act so very sincere
When my mind isn’t that clear
Will I drink from the fateful cup
And see my thoughts trip me up
Or is a cloud going to grey
Which will soak me to decay
Before a sun shines in my vision
Protecting me from derision
Guiding my noctural mind
From a life that can be unkind
Bringing me back onto this earth
For the purposes of my rebirth

A light shone into my eyes
Contempt became pity
Guilt replaced hunger
Fear overcame my stride

Whistles slivered into my ears
And nestled amongst my thoughts
We had found you at long last
But a voice inside whispered set them free

I tried to ignore it with strained guile
The seven seas I had travelled
To exact my revenge
Seemed wasted and empty dreams

Cowardice had overcome me
Crept into my bones like ice
Shrouding me like a blanket
Rigid and strong and eternal

Screams and jeers sailed over me
The axe I saw gleaming in the sun
Tears dropped from my closed shivering eyes
Then dark the light then peace

I’m going to go to sleep now
And dream some unique dreams
Maybe I’ll find some inspiration
Cause the dreamworld is strange it seems
Then tomorrow I’ll be ready

I’m not expecting big things

What to wear
A man isn’t really fussy
He’s generally just care free
A pair of jeans and a bobbled shirt
That usually does it for me
But some men are being taken over
Their creating dilemmas of their own
Trying on various eye piercing shirts
Then do nothing but tut and moan
Trying on a hundred pairs of shoes
Which seems pointless in my view
Because unless your born near Chernobyl
There’s only enough room for two
And then there’s the endless brylcream
All foaming and slightly wet crap
Slapping it down and shaping it up

And I secretly prayed

Why did she cry

Which led to a reawakening
As my passions inflamed

And then we made love
So beautiful and true
Then came those dreaded words

The disappeared
We danced amongst the daffodils
And mingled with the scents
Our nostrils were strangely ambushed
By the flower garden through the fence
A timeless little treasure trove
All hidden behind the house
And then we played hide and seek
Using our cunning and all our nouse
I hid down on the river bank
Behind a large crooked tree
Listening to your heavy footsteps
As you playfully tried to find me
And then all became eerily silent
The smell of burning hung in the air
You had gone and completely disappeared
To a place I still don’t know where
Thirty years on from that day
I sit in my own wandering mind
Wondering who took you from me
To face the loneliness and hurt left behind
I never give up hope
A kindred spirit doesn't really leave
I’ll just keep my fingers crossed
And not allow myself to stop or believe
If we, as mere mortals, cannot grab the world
By its throat and correct it
Then how, do we
Expect our children to
Maybe if we changed ourselves
At the age that we are
Then our children will see
That anything is possible
That anything can change
That people can make things better
That happier times can come
Maybe if we changed ourselves

The fat lady on the seat
A fat lady comes and sits down
On a seat in my booth
She glares at me above her spectacles
Its a bit surreal to tell the truth

I turn and stare out the window
As she pulls out a large cream bun
And I slowly hear the uneducated sounds
Off it gliding in her mouth down to her tum

Then she throws her head back
Against the large upholstered seat
And as I notice her swelling belly
I wonder how she finds her feet

She starts to snore loudly
As I stifle a little giggle
Then she jerks a bit to quickly
Before slumping again with a wriggle

My mind races over time
Wondering where the hell she’s actually going
Falling asleep after devouring a cake
What tale am I not knowing

And then she talks unearthly
Shouting in her sleep
I hate that man, I hate that man
What secret does she keep

The train pulls into the platform
And this my last stop
But the fat lady just keeps on snoring
With her belly about to the pop
A knock at the door
And my friend answers
The ******* the doorstep simply blurts out
Can you tell Ian his pet shops flooded
My friend politely says tell him yourself
And she repeats it again
This time more manic
Can you tell Ian his pet shops flooded
So my fiend says again
Very politely I might add
She’ll have to tell him herself and again
Can you tell Ian his pet shops flooded
So he slams the door in her face

No other word could describe these two
That word was simply Gold

Builder City
I wander down desolate streets that I’ve always known as towns
But now they have become havens for bright yellow helmets and noisy sounds
Gone is the hustle bustle of a lively cosmopolitan afternoon
In its place is the solitary ear shot of a builder humming a tune
A cigarette here and a cigarette there
Crackling laughter filling the air
What is this strange world I find myself in
Where does this madness end and where does it begin
It’s begins with a virus that really is pretty ******
Which has created this unique world that I like to call builder city
God created life and the man created walls
And the men are toiling on when the rich world comes and calls
Scaffolds of metal erected nice and high
As the magic of construction happens loudly under sky
Roadblocks and lights and the lifting of a hand
Halts the nonexistent traffic whilst a visor carries sand
Huddled together, social distancing at its worse
Putting forth life and limb on the line to fill a draining purse
They don’t need your concern or trending pity
Cause they are builders strong and true working in the place I call builder city
The bees started fighting
Over what I just don’t know
One threw a sneaky punch
Then they all had a little go
Yellow and black in tandem
Buzzing round the bar
Stinging, punching and biting
Oh how very very bizarre
A glass went crash
A plate when whack
Mr Sting slumped to the floor
As the chair bounced of his back
The bee police were called in
All riot shields and batons of wood
To separate the warring gangs
As only they really could
They threw in the tear gas
And tasered many a bee
The trouble they dealt with in no time
And then home for some milk and honey

My horses
Saddled, unsaddled
Wild and free
We love to run
My horses and me

Up the hills
Across the town
Sometimes lazily
In my dressing gown

They belong to me
My equine friends
Much more fun
Then a house of hens

I admire their colours
And their nasal sounds
As we ride together
Around the grounds
