Nocturnal Haiku

I can’t sleep because
You haunt every minute
Of my weary mind.
Today some cloud
Put on a show,
Streaking across
Clear blue sky.

Pretty
Empty
Condensation
Evaporating far away
Want to land a hit?
Write seventeen claps of ****
Done. Post. You can quit.
Math is make believe and imaginary
an ambrosia of love
permeated the
air
lovers captivated by
its beautiful
fair

two souls tasting the
oneness of love's
romance
a close combination
to the alluring
dance

hearts sharing a profound
link of
emotion
the fruits of love
conferring deep
devotion

ever savouring love's
bouquet so
divine
a harmony of such
satiating
entwine

an ambrosia of love
permeated the
air
lovers captivated by
its beautiful
fair

they sit blanket wrapped,

Earth smells of rain,
cloud dazzling secrets.

As he leans in,

of his past
to her soul.

craned her neck up at the huge tree
and spied a feisty pair of magpies

flitting about in a figure 8 — they squawked
out their monastic chants with abandon,
guarded their muddied little nest
tucked away in the groove

of a high branch. She froze,
eyes wide in a bewildered trance
as she suddenly recalled her own
mother so long ago, behind her

braiding my mother's thick hair,
her gentle voice murmuring about
the songs of magpies symbolizing
good news when you need it the most

My mother's smile was tremulous as she sat
in her garden, shrouded by the sweet incense
of memory, palms pressed together to ponder
all the ways we press on towards the light
